Many aircraft dont have insurance because the owners want the airplane as a status symbol but cannot actually afford to make payments on the plane, storage, fuel and yearly REQUIRED maintenance. Also, the insurance companies will fight the owners tooth and nail to NOT payout claims as that is not a sustainable business model. Insurance companies don't remain solvent by paying out to the policyholders so they will use any reason to stiff the owners.

It's astounding he managed to not only fly these planes but navigate from the air. Not to mention safely -- walk away from -- a crash landing not just once but multiple times!
What a incredible story and magnificently constructed documentary. Best thing I've seen in months, Colton was able to Fly..... physically and figuratively. This young man, though broke the law 10 fold but never violent or with intent to hurt anyone, is inspiring. He lived his dream and made his own movie with himself as the hero. It's a special story and individual.

I followed this story when it happened and rooted for him to keep going. The definition of manifest destiny. He wanted something and he took it. The fact that he didn't hurt anyone made me like him even more.
You know what I really find fascinating about this, is that I think everyone wants to go on a rogue adventure like this, even if it’s a little part of them that wants to, how powerful it would feel to be on the run and know people are chasing you!!!

@F. Friedrich Kling I actually am a police officer and his story really spoke to me. As an Officer I would find him infuriating, he is very intelligent. It's like my dad says: If criminals were smart they would never get prosecuted. However as a person, I can't deny he is inspiring. Even if he was on the wrong side of the law, the fact he went back for his dog speaks to me deeply.
He had an incredible adventure for 2 years. Out smarted police, and FBI, trained himself to fly a plane and stole his dog back. I liked that part. This was a well put together documentary.
That past tense involves 7 years of prison so...thanks but no thanks,I'll pass.I can camp(with friends is better)outside in nature without cops looking for me and still have a great experience,I can ride my bike(Ninja 650)for adrenaline rush and for the piloting a little plane, well that will have to be postponed for now(but that is on my bucket list).
@@trashman8094 plus he was all ready in the system so it was not his first crime so yea i agree with you I was also suprised but I also think that this is the right amount of time for him to see absolutely seriously were he want to go with his life after prison. It's good thing that his crime spree was interested enough for a movie deal of 1,4 million $ so at least his victims will be paid for the damages that was inflicted upon them. The nicest part of his story is that he was never violent in whatsoever situation. He didn't physically hurt anyone, except for causing property damages. It shows he was intelligent, he didn't need to resort to violence to get his way.
He's been out for a couple years already pulling in 10 grand an appearance as a motivational speaker when he's not doing clerical work for his lawyer that defended him. Of the 1.4 million fox gave him years ago for his story he's only got a 100 grand of it left after paying back all his victims. The kid sells his story, pays back everyone he stole from and then studies to become an aeronautical engineer whilst all being humble. Dayumn, what a guy.
Mad respect for this guy. What they said about him being in non-stop survival mode really stuck with me. That and how he said he want people to know that it wasn't fun; the kid was constantly on the run and never let his guard down. That's exhausting on all levels, he's a tough and determined guy to stick it out for as long as he did. I hope he gets that degree, he deserves the chance to do what he loves in a safe environment after what he went through. What he did was definitely wrong, but from what this video shows it sounds like he did everything he could to make it right to the people he hurt. I hope he's able to get his life stabilized, and I sincerely wish he will be able to do what he loves without having to break the law, be scared for his life, or be in constant survival mode. All the best to this guy. And also his mom, what a woman to stick by him through all of that and deal with the media, I can't imagine how scary it was for her as well. I think people tend to think of Colton as a teenager who was living the dream, partying and running from the law. If you think about it from his perspective though, he's just a kid who's trying to avoid being captured by the adults who never did anything for him when he was little. Just a scared kid, running for his life. An extremely resourceful and slippery kid, sure, but still just a kid. I hope he got his dog back in the end, they never said what happened to the pup. Perhaps he should consider a degree in veterinary medicine after he gets the one in aeronautical engineering.
Very well said he seems to have been in survival mode through out the early years of his life. I wish him well. Put him in the Airforce Navy Seals he has a brilliant mind Com on people get him started in a career utilize those skill he obviously has.
I would really like to know about this guy's childhood. He must have been seriously hyperactive and living in a very remote area and been doing this stuff his whole life. And I really think this was all about the chase for him. If you took all these physical things he was doing and set up some kind of challenge it would be hard to find people who could put all that together and pull it off; especially barefoot. But it seems to me that he loved being chased. Had to be sort of an addiction. Like everybody here, not endorsing law breaking, but the sense of freedom he has is seductive.
Lmao i just know theyll never have this type of empathy for inner city kids of color who do the same things on the daily just to survive, this documentary and all the dlcumentaries glorfying white criminals are a joke
I mean what kid would not love to be able to just jump in an airplane and fly it off somewhere. And live to talk about it. And he was emotionally, I think, just a kid.

Here’s the latest update on Colton: In May 2019 he asked his judge to release her from probation four months early. In 2010 he was sentenced to seven years and got off on probation, however he wanted to be released to become a motivational speaker. He does not like his nickname “barefoot bandit” he wants to leave his past behind and move forward with his life very quickly. He paid off most of his debts because of Fox buying his story. He has about 97,000 left to pay off but I’m pretty sure when he gets released he’ll be ready to make so much money the correct way. He says he doesn’t see his past as a waste of time however the jail time did change his mentality to become an even harder worker and not to waste anymore time in the future.

@@marcuslarwa9098 Not all the time.

He says he doesn’t see his past as a waste of time however the jail time did change his mentality to become an even harder worker and not to waste anymore time in the future.
damn
"you already know"
Also the judge denied his early release
Of course it wasn't a waste of time. The kid is better at urban survival than probably anyone out there.
