  • Hi Friends!
I wanted to make a video for those of you who are not a fan of eye contact. (I know eye contact is not an issue for everyone with ASD, but it's a common trigger.) I wanted to include people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, without excluding anyone. If I were to make another video, please, let me know what the perfect ASMR-video would be for you, as someone with ASD. If you're not comfortable sharing this on UA-cam, feel free to DM me on Instagram. Thank you!

I'd like to make another autism-friendly video, but with your input. If you have autism or are on the spectrum, what would the perfect ASMR-video be for you? Feel free to share in a comment or DM me on Instagram. I'd love to hear from you! 🙏

As someone with Autism, your videos are great for practicing eye contact without the chance of making someone uncomfortable. I love the face and eye exams especially. You making some autism friendly videos makes me so happy and i hope it brings others happiness too!! Thank you Sophie 💜

I am on the spectrum leaning towards ‘high functioning’ but i always enjoyed the inspections and so on for they helped provide a safe space so possibly a safespace themed video but i know i will watch anything you upload x3

Eye contact in videos doesn't bother me the same way eye contact in person does, because I can avert *my* eyes without "being rude" but I absolutely LOVE that you are thinking about this 💗

Agrees. I'm not autistic (I don't think), but eye contact has always been an intense issue for me. Videos are different, because my brain seems to realize it's not a person in front of me and decides I can do it without being uncomfortable, but trying to look someone in the eyes irl is a challenge.

I was surprised how much I liked this. I've noticed before that I prefer photos where the person doesn't look directly into the camera, but I haven't thought about the same in video before. In movies, it's natural that actors don't pay attention to the camera.

The no eye contact is such a huge changer for me, it definitely made me feel much more comfortable (: for me and my autism I've always found the things that trigger me the most are being able to watch people do things, most unintentional triggers get me. I like watching people inspect objects and just rly pay attention to what they're doing, something about the focus not being directly on me is nice (:

I love love love this! Maybe for the next one, you could use a pen? The scratchy, dry sound of the pencil made my skin feel itchy, but the rain in the background and the softer glove sounds, so good!!!

I have to agree. I am autistic and this video was practically perfect. The only thing was the pencil sound, thats always given me mild 'nails-on-chalkboard' jeebies. Other than that, phenomenal!

Thank you, Sophie!!! I really appreciate the no eye contact/interaction of this video. I have not been diagnosed but I have several autism symptoms, avoiding eye contact being the most obvious one. My favorite ASMR videos tend toward the no-talking, pottering around kind of videos for that reason. A fixing you roleplay where we are either a robot or an art piece are always some of my favorites!

I love that you did this and the comments show how diverse people are - both those of us on the spectrum and people in general.
This video also taught me something about myself, as the lack of eye contact makes me feel ignored and uncomfortable. I guess you can't please everyone at the same time. But it is wonderful that you are deliberately creating content that is catering to the needs and desires of people who I think do not have a lot of options right now. I have nothing but respect for that!

symmetry. as someone on the spectrum, i find it tends to be key when it comes to triggers for me. if you do something on one side, i get frustrated instead of relaxed if you don't do the exact same thing on the other side the same number of times because i'll be left anticipating actions or sounds that aren't coming and when they don't come i'm left feeling unsatisfied and thus annoyed that they didn't happen.
(this particular problem can also be alleviated with odd numbers however, by splitting the action/sounds evenly between both sides and then ending with the final action/sound split between both mics, but that's not always as satisfying)

This is absolutely amazing, as someone on the spectrum eye contact is something that makes me extremely uncomfortable. Whenever ASMR-ists give eye contact I always have to look away. It’s better cause it’s not in person, but I’m so happy I don’t have to be overly aware and can just enjoy it! ❤ thank you so much

I know my brother on the spectrum really likes hearing the same sound repeated over and over again. Like he'll go back obsessively to a specific part of a movie or a particular scene in a videogame. Not sure if he watches ASMR but even if this comment isn't helpful it's still a comment to boost viewer interaction to help your channel grow because you deserve it 😘💛

I love it when people do no eye contact. For some reason it just kinda makes me nervous and uncomfortable. Your asmr is amazing! I have a LOT of sensory issues. Like, I cant stand loud noises, smells I dont like or bad smells I hate, extremely bright lights, I absolutely can not stand chewing. It gets on my nerves so much. Like, if someone has gum and they are chewing on it with their mouth open I will literally have a sensory over load. It happened to me, and of course there were other aspects, but the girl was chewing her gum so loud for me and I stood up and grabbed my headphones I use for noise canceling.

I love the rain background and the gloves but miss your soothing voice talking about what your looking at. Something about everything fitting in a uniform square but still all grouped together in there own areas.

All I can say is that you are an amazing beautiful soul. I have an 11 yr old daughter that has these challenges and she loves stories read to her but quietly because of her sensitivity with sounds. I don’t know if that’s an idea for you or not but I thought I’d mention this. She listens to storybooks on audible and it seems to be very soothing for her.

Also just an FYI to Sophie and the other commenters here - it's generally more acceptable/more humanizing to refer to someone as autistic, as opposed to a "person with autism". I'm autistic, and it's a bit uncomfortable seeing so many people talking about autistic people in such an isolating way (whether it's intentional or not, still feels icky)
PS do not mean for this to come across as chastising, just pointing it out for people who may not know.

    • @radioactivel1609

For me I CANNOT do cloth sounds or anything porous like scratching on wood (like the penicl writing) or even just seeing people touch it 😭 I know these things are very specific to each one of us, but I imagine there's other autistics that also struggle with clothing/cloth sounds. Even just hearing the sound of the clothes people wear while moving makes me want to rip my gums and teeth out. So I imagine doing a variety of videos that include and exclude specific triggers would be great! I'd love to see videos that had "no ___ sounds" in the title or description would be great!

Eye contact (that isn’t prolonged staring) doesn’t bother me so much in videos because it feels less intense, but I appreciate you making this for those who are much more sensitive to it!
I tend to find higher pitched tapping and rattling sounds (especially involving metal) bothersome, although I don’t recall you ever using those. I also dislike when people keep repeating words / phrases or have strong vocal fry (also things I haven’t noticed from your videos).
I guess generally just avoid jarring sounds and focus on things that are smooth / warm / calm? That’s just me though, can’t speak for every autistic person.

  • @kairotox
    @kairotox 6 місяців тому

Idk if it's just me, but the eye contact thing, it's more of it being hard for me to make eye contact, I don't really care so much if other people are looking at my eyes or not. I do get self conscious about them thinking I'm avoiding eye contact though.
