Falling in love with Greece | Bicycle touring Greece

After less than a week in Greece, we'd fallen in love.
Mainland Greece is amazing for bicycle touring, not only is every small town full of life and totally buzzing, the roads are so quiet. You can be nestled in the mountains on a massive A-road with no other cars, no people - just dogs, goats and cows. This area of Northern Greece has a very new motorway network which has drawn all the traffic away from the older roads, but they're still in excellent condition. It creates this odd feeling like the world has been abandoned.
We'd tried using Warmshowers in other countries including France but there are so many hosts and also countries with high levels of hosts who are bike tourerers tends to have a lower response rate. It makes sense, I'm in Glasgow and there are tons of hosts here, I know that if I can't host someone, there's a good chance someone else will be available. But in Greece, there are less hosts across the whole country than in some small French cities. Almost every single person we asked offered us a place to stay, from Tassos in Polykastros to the Mayor of Xirolimni Fillipos. Meeting people like this is the best way to travel and get to know a country and is a big reasons that we were falling in love with Greece.
