Sonic Rush Adventure - Sonic Was Always Good

- I don't have too much to add for this one. So I'm just gonna say that the music of Sky Babylon is so awesome.
The whole soundtrack in this game is great. Naganuma didn't do it this time. But the music team did try to make music that had a similar feel to his stuff, and I'd say they did a decent job. Things like the boss theme I would have totally believed Naganuma did it if you told me.

Me when Rush Adventure critics complain about replaying levels for materials:
"I thought people liked replaying good Sonic levels"
I know _I_ do.
This game is the VERY definition of underrated and overlooked, it's ridiculous. It's such a solid entry in the franchise. I absolutely loved finding the secret islands.
It’s funny you mentioned wind waker. Phantom Hourglass, the DS sequel, has sailing mechanics fairly similar to Rush Adventure. You can stop mid route to change the route, so it’s a bit better. But I guess the DS really couldn’t handle free form sailing.
I absolutely loved this game as a kid. I always found it super weird that the homing attack was in this game, but like, not even explained I believe?? I figured it out after like two playthroughs, and i got so excited to use it all the time :D
Also calling the coins Doubloons, genius. Maybe precursor orbs next time? :o
Ooh. That's a good one. I'll remember that.
@@Pariah6950 you should also use jiggies
@@qstmrk8004 no he used music notes. Jiggies are too similar to marios stars to be compared to coins from sonic.
30 fps on bosses: It's the only way to have 3D on both screens. The DS only allows 3D on one screen at a time. To use 3D on both, we have to render one screen, swap modes, render the other, swap modes again, repeat.
I remember playing Sonic Rush Adventure much more than first Sonic Rush for almost same reasons. You also nailed all the points when it came to boss fights in this game since I used to replay those fights so much back in the day.
I found S ranking the true final boss in this game to be very very enjoyable, it was difficult for me at first but refining each run until I was able to beat it extremely efficiently was very satisfying
This is my favorite Sonic game of all time ngl, I just love everything about it. I played it an insane amount of times when I was a kid.
I’m glad they made Sonic’s collectible doubloons, adds to the whole sailing and pirate stuff
the sailing around the ocean reminds me alot of the legend of zelda:phantom hourglass
that came out the same year as this games
what a weird coicidence huh
I think it's important to remember that the mission system and the sailing mechanic, etc should all be viewed within the conext of Rush Adventure being a hand held game. The way these things are designed are much more condusive to punching in a few quick bursts of gameplay at a tim on your daily commute, closing the system and putting it in your pocket and then opening it back up to pluck away at another.
I personally much prefer Rush Adventure over Rush overall. Probs on the upper end of my list of 2D titles.
I loved the extra missions. I'm actually still trying to unlock and complete them all a decade later 😅
I get u prob did a good amount of plannin & setup to do this but it's honestly incredible the way ur pumpin these out like mad lol
this game is really nostalgic to me. i was a kid in a walmart i think? and they were displaying some ds cartages near the check out. i saw sonic rush adventure, and since it was sonic, i wanted it. i asked for it. i didn't get it right at that moment but i got the game that christmas and loved it. everytime i go back to it i have a blast. i didn't know rush existed before i played this game so it was my first introduction to blaze and the concepts surrounding her. blaze is still one of my favorite sonic characters and definitely my favorite female sonic character.
glad you have a blast with this game as well. i was surprised by how much you didn't mind the sailing, i thought you'd dislike it quite a bit
You do so much content! Amazing!
This one was my first and one of my favorite sonic games! I was waiting for this video since i started watching the series months ago, happy to see that you have made yet another absolutely BASED take.
One thing I would like to add about the hidden islands is that they are useful for getting material as you can play them to reduce how much you have to replay the main levels they are based on.
Blaze deserves her own game.
Shadow got his spinoff, she needs one too.
Preferably without guns.
Finally, someone else that prefers Sonic Rush Adventure over the original in terms of gameplay. I mean i get it, the mini-games are not for everyone, but once you have a complete save file... Who cares? You can just replay the levels with the snap of your fingers and it's super fun to time attack.
Said like a true Unleashed fan lol.
@@Pariah6950 To be fair, the rush series unleashed and Generations are the only games i can say i truly enjoy the boost gameplay, otherwise... It's the gameplay of Sonic i like the less, and even then 3D games are the games where i liked the less and come back the less to play it. I have come back to Rush Adventure more times then Sonic Generations PC, including emulation because my DS gave up not too long ago and didn't had the money to change the battery and still don't
Marine's game! 🍊 And the first Sonic game I completed. Before watching I want to have said, spoilers, that she should've been playable riding the Blue Typhoon, and she should've been a post-game bonus vessel on her SS Super Marine.
It's also the game to introduce the second Scepter with Star-adjacent lore, and reintroduce the mysterious bird deity... though it doesn't really come up despite its prominence in-game and on supplementary materials. I recommend reading the Sonic Channel interview about this game and mostly Marine, and part of the localisation team did Twitch streams about it too! Which I couldn't watch at the time... Ohtani did blog posts about the soundtrack, and of course Marine has a medal blog where she answers questions,, and celebrates Christmas too!! 🍊🎄
She's got a Kansai dialect, she's a tomboyish dabbler, and is surprisingly a neat freak, likely because she's a raccoon (a wash bear, named such because they appear to wash their food before eating). Oh and the game's good.
...
they really couldn't just put Sonic in a lifejacket for this huh
I like when you ride the dolphin, like in the beloved Sega fan favorite Dolphin Blue. Classic Sonic artwork loved boats and ocean things and stuff. The red star on the album cover is kind of Forces-y. It's interesting how realistic the 3D sets are, Machine labyrinth almost looks like Radical Train. The 2D art of the islands on the website is like that as well.
Hey this is kind of random but I really like this series. I don’t know if you write scripts or have bullet points but it feels like you are just casually talking about the games and I like that. Can’t wait for you to talk about Unleashed and Colors cause I think those games are really good.
Also I just realized that maybe we could get good boss fights for frontiers because it has combat baked into the core gameplay already. Hopefully they can do a mix of some speed based bosses and some combat bosses.
Oh yeah the 3 boost games we git were great.
@@spritvio639 Absolutely agree with that. I feel like you can always find a way to go faster with how the levels are designed and how Sonic’s move set works.
@@spritvio639 Yeah. We only got 3 non-Rush boost games. There was never a 4th one, nope, not ever. Only 3.
This was my first Sonic game, along with my first video game, I've ever played AND beaten by myself. This game will always be great to me.
You must have really liked the song Back 2 Back to post these like that
Haha!
The first Sonic Rush game I played growing up.
Your argument for how grinding for materials is good goes directly opposite to your argument for how limited lives are bad
Fair. As I said, I don't think it's perfect by any means. But I like providing some kind of tangible reward for playing well that actually encourages you to go back and get better. That's what I like, even if how it's done could be better. I'd still argue this is better than lives, though.
i was just finishing watching the other video, this one got me surprised lol
I watched the rush vid last night and was like “can’t wait for the adventure video”
bro wasted no time 😂
This game is extremely underrated, despite the downgrade in visuals and music.
Btw this video made me realize how basically identical the trick system is to the reserves system of Crash Team Racing
Dude. CTR is such an awesome game. A video breaking down those mechanics is definitely in the future.
@@Pariah6950 But,But,But Diddy KONG RACING!
@@Pariah6950 Are you a fan of Spyro? I think covering some Spyro games after Crash would be neat.
I find it funny that some people say this is Sonic Adventure 3 and yet I think the Rush games are better than the Adventure games.
fun fact:the rush games are the only games that have a momentum homing attack, once you homing attack an enemy, you preserve your speed like in the fan game sonic GT,but in GT you need to hold the button after the homing attack to preserve your speed, and if you don’t hold you’ll lose your current speed, weird coincidence that both games have a momentum homing attack
Hello, i love your stuff lol, how are you exploding in the rate you are uploading? Did your hand get better I assume?
Hand is healed. But I'm also just devoting more time to making videos.
Not sure if I somehow missed this but I'm surprised you didn't talk about how you can get a start boost at the "READY" of the beginning of the stage
I already talked about that in my Advance 2 video. Not much more to say. It's the same thing.
7:00 This is a problem with most DS games which is caused by very strict hardware limitations, as 3D scenes on the DS can only span one screen and have a strict triangle limit. To bypass the triangle or screen limits, more scenes need to be rendered. The DS is also limited in that it can only render one 3D scene per vertical blank, so if the game needs to render multiple scenes, the frame rate gets cut in half/third/etc.
Blaze is an underused character
3:19 How do you do this? I've played through all Rush games and i dont know how to do this and i always see it
Not even gonna lie, I think the missions are very fun.
I think you're the first person I've heard say this one was better than the first Rush game. Not at all a problem, it's just interesting to hear lol. I thought the game was fun, but I wasn't a huge fan of the material collecting. But I didn't think it was really bad either. I need to play it again to see if my feelings for it have updated or not.
The sailing kinda reminds me of classic fallouts map system
This game seems to be very overlooked and never really talked about for some reason. Not sure why though since this game is great. Probably because it is always overshadowed by the first Rush and even though the story of the first game is probably more compelling, I still think this is a pretty good game that people should try out.
I played this game more than a decade later after the first and I will forever regret not playing it sooner. The music is a bit of a downgrade, but other than that, it's better than the first in every way.
The music of this game had a very different vibe
Mission 100 is actually a fake, it unlocks when you beat the other 99, and selecting it auto-completes it.
Of course, I still don't blame you for not going for all 99 of them, hahah.
Well SOMEONE'S trying to catch up to Frontiers real quickly aren't they?
7:02 I think it’s because the bosses take place in fully 3d environments
Mario 64 DS
@@themissingbits6375 yeah but those environments didn’t have nearly as much going on as the boss arenas they were also lower Poly
Ah, Rush Adventure, a game that before I tried it someone told me it was absolute dogshit, and when I finally got to play it, I just sat down and wondered what the fuck he was talking about, this game gets EVERYTHING right, like I legit have little to no complaints about it.
Although, now this series is in an interesting spot, because a lot of people, myself included, consider Sonic Rush a trilogy thanks to Colors having a DS version that basically plays like a Rush games, so are you gonna cover that first or are you going back to the console games?
Once I get to Unleashed, I'll be covering all the counterpart games back to back with their main versions. Colors DS isn't really Rush 3 if you ask me.
@@Pariah6950 fair enough.
You're using an emulator Right? Which one melonds or desmume?
Desmume in Retroarch.
@@Pariah6950 God I hate being so alone for liking the water bike mini game especially and the other vehicles (except the submarine it sucks) you're right about the potential it'd be a fun mini game in unleashed instead the memory game bullshit of tails stages in unleashed
Wait....there's an upgraded ski??? Are you serious? I was just stubborn....
I've NEVER seen that sonic artwork from the thumbnail. Where is it from ?
Sonic Rush Adventure
@@themissingbits6375 yes, i know that, im talking about were he found it ?
It simple, Just write “Sonic Rush Adventure Artwork” And BOOM You Will find it
Yeah I totally think this game's criticism are mostly over-exaggeration - like the jet ski minigames? They're really damn short and don't distract from the base levels that much, and I personally find the jet ski one where you can boost to be relatively fun.
And the material collecting shit I think is a good incentive for players to get better at the game, and replaying short, but really damn fun Sonic levels.
Overall I think Rush Adventure just irons out a lot of the fluff from Rush, especially the bosses, and the enemy rooms.
This is honestly a pretty damn solid sequel for a respective Sonic game, that I think gets a little too much hate for very minor inconveniences.
I’m pretty sure marine has an australian accent. Idk thoguh
9:49 unfortunately I don’t think the ds had enough processing power or storage for a open world like that
10:18
@@themissingbits6375 you do realize that’s not a open world that’s a linear pathway the sea doesn’t go on for long past the screen
@@sometf2player752 I just showed you a clip where he Said that the reason why it not very Open world is because This was made in weaker hardware
Back again with another based take
sonc rosh
12:19-12:23 People just like to complain.
I excitedly once tried Rush Adventure after beating and adoring Rush for the first time, but the plain art style and mid music really put me off. This sequel overwhelmingly has none of the style the first game had imo
All I hear is *PING* *PING* *PING*
I'm not a big fan of Rush Adventure, I think it lost a lot of the charm of OG Rush, but it's still a very good game for sure.
Dude really hates 3d sonic
he does like all of the Adventure styled games
sailing mechanic just ruins this game for me to be honest it's so boring i just want to play sonic
