    Pretty cool... how come the GP locos were designed with both short and high hood models? Wouldn't the high hood impede forward visibility?

      There are a variety of reasons, but the two I see quoted most often are space for steam generators for passenger use and improved crash safety. Later on many (but not all) railroads abandoned high hoods in favor of the improved visibility provided by low noses. Some railroads rebuild their own equipment; the Southern Pacific GP9s seen in this video were rebuilt by the railroad rather than being sent to EMD for modification, hence the nickname "chop noses".

      @@liamcooper5202 I know the SP AC4400 had flashing ditch lights when first delivered, there’s videos of them on Tennessee Pass in the 90’s with the ditch lights flashing; not sure about the other locomotives though.

      @@O-PAC yes i have since found out that SP had flashing ditchlights on their 44AC and i think they had a few dash 9s. Im not sure about their retro fits though.
