Episode 56: Ghazwa E Bahran Summary The Battle of Bahran was undertaken with 300 companions, accompanying the Prophet (peace be upon him), towards the region known as Bahran, which was towards the direction of Hijaz. They remained there in the months of Rabi' al-Awwal and Jumada al-Ula of the third year after Hijra. Without engaging in any fight, they returned. The purpose was to demonstrate to the non Muslims the readiness and strength of muslims to defend themselves. Following this, the expedition led by Zaid bin Harisa was dispatched during Jumada al-Awwal of the third year after Hijra. The trade route towards Sham had become insecure for the leaders of Mecca. Safwan bin Umayya suggested to his leaders that since their trade had halted, they should consider starting trade along the route to Iraq, although it was a difficult path. They could then head towards Sham from Iraq, avoiding Medina. Safwan chose Farhat bin Hayyan to lead a caravan towards Sham. News of this reached the Prophet (peace be upon him). Naeem bin Masood, a non-Muslim, and Saleem bin Nauman, who was Muslim, were both present in a gathering where wine was being consumed, which was not yet prohibited. Naeem, under the influence, revealed the entire plan of the caravan, and Saleem immediately informed the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) swiftly prepared for an attack and appointed Zaid bin Harisa as the leader of a force consisting of 100 horsemen. The Quraysh caravan was descending towards Qarda Pass when the Muslims attacked the caravan, resulting in a significant amount of wealth being seized as maal e ghaneemat. Farrat bin Hayyan later accepted Islam, who was the leader of this Quraysh caravan. Now the Quraysh had two options: either make peace with the Muslims or proceed towards conflict. The Quraysh leaders decided to engage in battle against the Muslims, leading to the Battle of Uhud. The Quraysh proclaimed that the profits earned from the caravan Abu Sufyan brought to Makkah during the Battle of Badr would be used for warfare against the Muslims as a form of revenge. Regarding this, Allah mentioned in the Quran: "Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome." (Surah Al-Anfal, 8:36) Even today, Western media propagates against Islam, but the response remains the same: Muslims will prevail against them. Just as we have overcome Crusades and the false propaganda of the European world, Muslims will emerge victorious. In 1297, these enemies had to withdraw, leaving Palestine. Allah Himself safeguards Islam. The Quraysh then resorted to using their poets. Abu Azza, one such poet who was a prisoner during Badr, got released after he had made an agreement with the Prophet (peace be upon him) not to engage in anti-Islamic propaganda. However, he broke this agreement and began composing poetry against the Muslims.
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) say: I would not stay behind (when) an expedition (for Jihad was being mobilised) if it were going to be too hard upon the believers.... This is followed by the same words as have appeared in the previous tradition, but this tradition has the same ending as the previous hadith with a slight difference in the wording: By the Being in Whose Hand is my life, I love that I should be killed in the way of Allah; then I should be brought back to life and be killed again in His way....(Sahih Muslim 4864)
