  • -This disappeared from YT some years ago, so I'm happy to bring back one of the funniest moments in "To Tell The Truth's" syndicated run, the "Tony Goodhart" episode. Watch confusion erupt in Game 2 of a type that never happened before or since in the show's many incarnations in quite this way! Sorry for the rough quality, this was obtained in trade on VHS in the 1990s.
-Larry Blyden, not yet the host of the syndicated "What's My Line?" is on the panel this week along with NBC newscaster Nancy Dickerson (the mother incidentally of current CBS reporter John Dickerson) and regulars Bill Cullen and Peggy Cass.

Great episode that I’ve not seen until now. I liked that mod set they had for the 1969-1971 years. Thanks for sharing this with us 👍

Fyi, there were 2 other similar incident i can think of in the show's history: once during the Collyer era #1 said his name was Mackey Spillane when he should have said Mackey Sullivan. Another from the Garagiola era, the kid had a clunky last name (sorry can't remember it) so #2 said "my name is the same as his" 😅

Don't let a little thing like saying the wrong name stop you from a vote. Another episode had an imposter #1 saying their real name by mistake. Nope, he didn't get any votes.

This is definitely 1971 as the accident didn't happen until January 4, 1971.

You knew right away that it wasn't the first guy because of that mistake. I figured it was number 3 because his answers seemed to be the most knowledgeable. I think the real guy played a bit dumb as you sometimes see these contestants do, to draw people off of them so they can win more money.

Since I was around one when this episode aired (and I am soon to be 51) I appreciated seeing it. I had a feeling number two was the real Tony Goodstone because of his reaction when the first imposter said his name wrong and they started over.

Not to mention the fact that it would make sense for the real Tony Goodstone to think quickly enough to follow number one's goof and salvage the spot.

@@epaddon I wonder whatever happened to Tony Goodstone? According to Google, this was apparently the only thing he ever wrote (or complied). He looks young enough here, certainly no older than 30, making him around 80 if he were still around today.

Anyone who thought H. P. Lovecraft appeared in Love Stories magazine knew nothing about the pulps.
