The advantage of a square journal is that scrapbookers use square pages (larger, but the same shape) and there are TONS of layout designs available for these that could be inspiration for square journal layouts.
I decided to try keeping a reading journal for the first time next year. It is going to be fairly minimal since I'm just not the kind of person that can realistically keep up with loads of trackers and intricately designed themes but I still like to take inspiration from your beautiful pages!
Not only did you step into a bigger journal by going square, but I think the Heirloom journal must be even bigger than the other A&O square journals if it’s 42 grid spaces! I think the other ones are 37! So you took a ✨giant✨ leap from the travelers size😮 I’m glad you’re settling into it, though, it looks amazing!! I’m so excited to see your individual book spreads🥰 I’m sizing down to a B6 this year for my reading journal, so I’m living vicariously through you with your massive one😅
They are 37! I’m setting up a square journal from their summer collection and it’s 37x37. I’d be interested to know what the dimensions of that one are compared to the regular 8x8 square journals I like the 42 better though!! Like she said it’s a nice number to divide in half, thirds, or fourths. 37 is not a nice number to divide😓
37 has been difficult for the past 4 years for myself too! I use the a&o standard square for my bujo and the other sizes as reading journals, and man dividing boxes into weeks in it is hard, but i love how much decorative space is there too much to stop. @elise85391
Erin, this is so beautiful! I love watching you create! Your Peach rating system sounds like it will work for me too! I tend to “feel” books through my heart and in my head so I’m a much more emotional book rater vs analyzing it too harshly. Some of my favorite books aren’t works of art but they have touched my heart and stay with me long after I’ve read them. Your system seems like the best of both - a little of each. I’m sad that this is your last journal set up. I ADORE these videos! Thank you!
Love your new rating system! I read for enjoyement/escapism only so the more analytical rating system does not reflect how much I loved a book or not so I never bother with one. I will have to think a little on what makes me tick and come up with my own.
I rate purely based on vibes and feelings, bc I too am just reading for fun! I don’t rate nonfiction though, cause it’s hard to rate nonfiction, you’d almost have to rate them differently based on what type of nonfiction it is
@@elise85391 That's so true! I'm considering not including the "utility" rating for things like biographies, but it would be so helpful for a mindset book. It's such a tricky line to walk!
My most anticipated reads for 2025: 1) Scythe and Sparrow by Brynne Weaver (Ruinous Love Trilogy, Book #3) 2) The Fox and the Falcon by Piper CJ (No Other Gods Series, Book #2) 3) Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins (Haymitch's Story) 4) The Perfect Divorce by Jeneva Rose (Perfect Series, Book #2) 5) Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert (Dark Olympus Series, Book #8) 6) Caught Up by Navessa Allen (Into Darkness Series, Book #2)
This was so satisfying to watch! I’m also using a square journal, but I’ve used a square one before and love it, but I’ll be taking some inspiration from your setup! I’m also very excited for Onyx Storm!
I absolutely love your stile. It is gorgeous! After each of your videos I think it can’t get any better, but every time you overset yourself again. ❤ I enjoy every one of your videos like I do this time!!! 🎉
Waa going to go for the blackout square this year but opted for an a5 Neapolitan instead to dip my toes into using different colors of paper. So so tempted to switch back to a square now lol stunning!
I've been waiting for you to do this and boy you didn't disappoint :) The set up is absolutely gorgeous. This is my first year in a square too and you've given me so many ideas, the tabs, the 2 bingo on one page, the rating system. Super loooking forward to the rating system video, you could rate by cats.... so 1 cat, 2 cat etc then it matches the name. I'll definitely be adopting your rating system as I found cawpile a little too fussy for me. Great video and a massive thank you.
I was sooo looking forward to this video for the past few weeks. I celebrated watching it in a cosy atmosphere, sitting by my Christmas tree, candles lit. I love your new set up! New reading journal season is just so exciting! I don’t have a particular release I’m looking forward to but I want to join the Page Mages for 2025, so those are the book titles I’m going to anticipate the most.
I have never done journaling before, its not as easy as it looks so I'm just doing a little at a time ,you make it looks so easy. Your journaling looks so beautiful 😍 💖 💗
I'm using a square journal this year for the first time, but not for my reading journal, now I wish I was. I love the layouts you did. Can't wait to see more!
I have been binge watching reading journals because my 8x8 is being delivered this week and I think I have come across this one 5 times but I watch it through every time
Aww Kaitlyn! That’s so lovely, I hope it’s helpful every time 🥹 this journal is 9x9 - I’ve had a few folks comment they can’t fit two book bingos on a single page in the 8x8, but you should be able to scale most things down a tiny bit for your journal if you’re keen to use any of these layouts yourself 💕
That is gorgeous! ❤ My reading is in my general journals, but I have also set up an A&O square journal (Frame Wall from the Attic Treasures collection) as a reading history journal, so I list all the books read that year and monthly stats and book of the year, etc, plus some features like favourite writers of mine…
Love your Reading journal setups, and this 'SIMPLE" one is just so pretty... Love the square for my creative journal, it's definitely much larger than the A5. I love how gracefully you combine all those washi flake stickers...
Hi Erin, I would love to see the unboxing video of the tsuki lucky box if you have it. Also I didn’t vibe with the hinoki into the library tape set but seeing how you’ve used it, it is now in my basket 😂
It might be helpful to add some clear packing tape to your tabs and maybe a little of the surrounding area just to add some reinforcement since you’ll be handling them a lot
I LOVE the Rating system ! Especially for non-fiction because I never know what to rate them on.. because I feel you can't really rate someones life on your personal enjoyment on reading it right so... I really like this !! I've already set my reading journal up but I may have to change the rating system a bit to use this as well.
This journal is just gorgeous, as is your setup. I can’t wait to watch you fill this up throughout the year!! You are my biggest reading journaling inspiration ❤
Beautifully done. I just finished my bullet journal and I truly don't know what theme I want to go with my reading journal. Thank you for some good ideas Erin.
I am in awe of the beauty and usefulness of this set up. I am planning my first reading journal (a little late, but better late than never! ) and the inspiration I have gotten from your videos in general is incredible! And this one… gorgeous. Thank you!!! ✨📚
I wonder if a couple of the ivy stickers would complete the release radar spread at the bottom? I know you said you like the white but it could seal it all. Also, love love love the asparagus tombow, works perfectly xx
Wow! Where to even begin! Impressive reading journal, just beautiful, well thought out, visually stunning yet functional. Tabs are a nice touch. Very special. I am curious about your rating system, might give it a try for next year to compare. I especially like the non-fiction rating, that makes more sense. I have my eyes on your mood ring, might treat myself to some fun. Enjoyed watching your video, will probably watch it again!
I loved those big letter stamps but OMG they are 100 pounds! Ouch. 😞 I think Ill have to take up lettering instead just to draw my own. The smaller letter stamps are on sale however at 50% and only 12 dollars or so, in case anybody wants to check them out. I allready have a set like that from way back but they seem very nice. And I loved the idea of getting origami papers for use in planners, I got myself a batch in amazon, those come in very handy. Thank you.
Gorgeous as always, Erin! I'm really looking forward to book 2 in the Shadow of the Leviathan series by Robert Jackson Bennett. The Tainted Cup was SO good!
I looove the PEACH system. I’ve never used a rating system but low the idea of them. 😅 I’m just hoping to finish The Wheel of Time and start The Stormlight Archives. It’s going to happen, I can feel it!
Oh Erin, I’ve been waiting for this one 😂 I’m so happy it’s here, it’s absolutely stunning… I’ve moved into a b5 this year because I was so inspired by your reading journal last year… love your videos ❤
I’m trying a square buck for the first time this year, so I’m happy to get some Inspo from you! The page mages spread especially turned out beautifully 🤩✨
I love that the tombow markers you picked look like dango! 🍡 It’s so pretty, your journal just gave me so much inspiration and this video was very relaxing!
Gorgeous set up! I'm also in a square journal for the first time and having fun making use of the extra space. Set up is taking ages though, but I hope to get it all finished over Christmas as I have a week off. I LOVE the Mitsu and Peaches rating system, I am very tempted to adopt this ❤ I am 100% stealing your header idea though, I havent been able to decide on mine but the style of yours is perfect for my fairytale set up vibes. I don't have quite as fancy illuminated style of letters, but I do have some which I can make into something similar. Really need to invest in sticker paper, so handy.
Thank you for the freebies! I made little paw print stickers for my ratings. My favorite read of January was "You'd Look Better as a Ghost" by Joanna Wallace. 🎀
I am truly so happy to have her! We always thought Mitsu wouldn’t adjust to having another cat in the house but this morning I woke up to them snuggling and my heart nearly burst 😭
Loved the new book journal layout, I will definitely be trying your rating systems for my 2025 reads. I can't wait to see more beautiful layout ideas I can take inspiration from for my book journal of 2025.

I loved this video so much, the spreads are beautiful and you definitely gave me a lot of inspiration for my reading journal. Can't wait for the rating system video! edit: spelling
Hi Erin, just so you know...a 'page' in the square notebook is the same size as a 'spread' in the travelers notebook! So you can use your travelers experience x
Love your videos, am I the only one who is completely frustrated with stationary companies never having things in stock! I understand when something is special or limited edition, but is there no company that keeps a line of products that you can get what you need when you need!!
Most of them are 8x8, while this one is 9x9 so you may need to resize some of my spreads to work in yours but they should be pretty easy to adapt! Happy journaling! 😍
wow your journal is amazing!! So creative! I am subscribing because I wanna keep track of your work. About new books in 2025, I can't wait to read Quicksilver that will arrive translated in Spanish around March if I'm not wrong. The book of Azrael and The Ashes & the Star cursed king :D
I’m using a square journal for my reading journal this year too and i was waiting for your video for inspiration!!! Can i use the peaches rating system? Will peaches show up in future videos like mitsu?!

oh this is a VERY good idea!!
I feel like you could absolutely do a Mitsu rating by making little cartoon-like stickers of Mitsu and then you can rate your books out of Mitsus
Mitsu's ratings could be cat paws. It would be adorable, peaches and cat paws
I made paw print stickers for my ratings.

amazingly wonderful. thank you for sharing all your great ideas

I can’t get enough of this journal! Erin, you have outdone yourself yet again! This is absolutely gorgeous! I love it so much! 💜
Beautiful. I am fully enjoying setting up my first dedicated reading journal for 2025.
I really like your new rating system, sounds like something anyone could try if they find rating books tough. 😊
I am tempted by a square journal (maybe 2026). I get so much inspiration from your channel. Thank you for sharing.
this turned out stunning! 😍
I love your reading journal set up. It turned out great! I have been thinking of moving to an 8X8 for my own reading journal so thank you for all the wonderful inspiration!!! Happy Holidays to you!! Thank you for a great video!!!❤❤❤
Always so beautiful! Have an awesome year of reading!
Your handwriting is beautiful.
Love the set up and your new rating system 😍
I set up my reading journal with this same notebook design about a month ago. Great minds think alike! It's so pretty.
You have excellent taste clearly 😎 it’s so perfect for this purpose!
The peach 🍑 rating system seems like something that could work well for me, so congrats
This is such a pretty journal. I can't help but check it out. If I get it today, it's not my fault 😭
The Stolen Queen by Fiona Davis is coming out in January of 2025. I love her historical fiction and I can’t wait.
SO pretty! I'm also looking forward to a Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping, as well as The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and Katabasis by RF Kuang.
I love your rating system! I have been looking how to rate the two books I've read so far this month. Both one fictions and one non-fiction and your rating system just seems to make sense, compared to a few I have seen in other videos. Gorgeous, Erin!
I’m very interested in learning how to make tabs!!! Looks amazing
HORRAAAAYY I've been waiting so much)))
amazing as always))) I'm also waiting for Onyx Storm (currently reading Iron Flame, so far liking it better than the Fourth Wing) aaand waiting for a bunch of books by Cassandra Clare
Ahhh AMAZING 🤩 I love your setup
I’m excited for A Curse Carved in Bone. It’s the sequel to A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle Jensen. It’s a Norse fantasy and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it so much
😮 gorgeous !!!!
And MITSU! That is so freaking clever! ❤
omg show us Peach please)))
Cute rating system
Beautiful!!! ♥
Yes please I would love it if you could make a video on how to make the page tabs.
Thank you. Jacqui from Canada 🇨🇦
The romance bingo would make a fun reading Valentines Day bingo challenge. Maybe for 1 1/2 to 2 months to give people more time, especially since February short. Those 2 days make a difference.
I love you so much. If my shopping addiction ever allows me to afford a trip to Australia, I would love to meet you in person...❤
Beautiful as always :) I can't wait for "Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales" by Heather Fawcett (Emily Wilde #3 coming in Feb) and "Uncharmed" by Lucy Jane Wood (Rewitched #2 coming in Sept)!!! I think you would love Rewitched, Erin!
I loved this video so much, the spreads are beautiful and you definitely gave me a lot of inspiration for my reading journal. Can't wait for the rating system video!

Wonderful 😊❤
Hi Erin, just so you know...a 'page' in the square notebook is the same size as a 'spread' in the travelers notebook! So you can use your travelers experience x
I think mine might be slightly bigger than a standard square (9x9 instead of 8x8) but you’re so right - the proportions will work!
I would love to see a 5 Mitsu rated book that uses little cat heads as “stars”
Omg can you imagine? I have his face as an emoji in the discord, it could be that - ‘this book scored a solid 4 out of 5 Mitsus!’🤣
“It’s nice to take it easy” - proceeds to make stunning pages

How about a 🍑and a 😺 for your two categories?
Onyx Storm is on my anticipated 2025 release radar! I need to know what happens next! Haha
