Not many would take on this daunting challenge of retaining every single design element from the arches, the magnificent pillars which are an ode to the craftsmanship of our skilled carpenters( tracking down these invaluable craftsmen itself must have been very difficult) the exquisite tiled flooring , old light switches..... spaces that warmly embrace the architectural magnificence of a bye gone era...furniture that complement the spaces... I am just blown away by your dedication to the way you have restored this tharavadu to its former glory, ,and your absolute respect for conservation ,faithfully retaining the traditional integrity of the tharavadu to its last detail. Your reverence for what your ancestors have gifted you with....this priceless treasure is manifested in so many ways... even in your choice of retaining plants along the main entrance to the house, as they will always bring back for you unforgettable memories linked with your childhood. Of course , your vast experience as a conservation engineer, and your exposure to many conservation projects in Bombay in your capacity as a town planner must have helped considerably as a resource tool in this praiseworthy task. I would love to visit this magnificent tharavadu, some day, and for a while drift back to a different age, because I too, like you, cherish traditional values, our Malayali culture, our traditional cuisine and traditional performing arts and architecture ...all of which belong to a bygone age of matchless charm. This house stands as a proud testament of that age..
When you cover traditional buildings like this you should cover all parts of that.Why you repeating the sitout and front view .....its a disgrace to that architecture....
Sorry never tried to disgrace It is important to note that even when the sitout added in front of the old structure, no damage was done to the old structure. Inside -There are only so many spaces. Let's try to avoid repetition. thanks for your valuble feedback
കൊളോണിയൽ സ്റ്റൈൽ എന്താണെന്നു താങ്കൾക്ക് മനസ്സിലായിട്ടില്ല,അത്ര തന്നെ. കേരളത്തിലെ ഭൂരിഭാഗം ഇത്തരം വീടുകളും ഡച്ച് മാതൃകയിൽ ആണ് നിർമ്മിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഊട്ടി, കൊടൈക്കനാൽ, ബോണക്കാട് മുതലായ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലെ തേയില എസ്റ്റേറ്റുകൾ ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ട്, അവ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് മോഡൽ ആണ്. ഗോവയിൽ പോർട്ടുഗീസ്സ് മാതൃകയാണ്. മാഹിയിലും പുതുച്ചേരിയിലും, യാനത്തും ഫ്രഞ്ച് മാതൃകയാണ്. അല്ലാതെ ഇതൊന്നും "so called" ട്രഡീഷണൽ കേരളാ വീടുകളുടെ വാസ്തുവിദ്യ അല്ല.
