I Purchased A MASSIVE Collection-98 1/1s 😱

- I recently was contatcted by a fellow Billy Butler collector who wanted to know if I wanted to buy his entire Billy Butler personal collection. This collection included complete parallel rainbows, 98 1/1s, white whales, Super Short Prints, and many other extremely rare cards. We were able to land a deal on the collection and when I received the two boxes of Billy Butler cards in the mail they weighed almost 40 pounds. In this video I share some of the coolest cards from the collection and why I collect Billy Butler in the first place.
A few other reasons I collect Billy Butler:
-My dad was a high school basketball coach and Billy used to be his assistant coach in the offseason. Billy and I used to play horse, and it was fun hanging out with him at my dad's practices.
-Billy played for the Idaho Falls Chukars which was the Low A affiliate of the Royals when I was a kid. The Chukars were a big part of my childhood so I got to watch him play there.
Cards like these are very hard to find. They don't pop up on ebay every day. They aren't on the tables at shows, where breadth and depth of selection is geared more toward mass appeal. Way to go. Jim cultivated a fine collection, and he sold to the right collector. Good stuff.

Thought you might enjoy this story. I grew up a royals fan in Chicago so me and dad would always go to royals white sox games at the cell. One time, before bp we were standing by the royals dugout and Billy was standing there talking to some representative from the royals. I asked him if he would sigh my hat and he did very kindly and threw my hat back up to me. Only in person auto ive ever gotten and it was awesome Ive always loved country breakfast ever since. Sadly lost the hat in a move as Ive gotten older but still one of the best moments as a young fan all those years ago.

Congratulations Scottie, that is a mega pickup! I can hear the joy in your voice as you sort through these. For hobby enjoyment, I think you are right; balancing the investment side high end purchases with the fun & simplicity of player collecting keeps things on an even keel.
I collect active era Carlton Fisk cards (1972-1993) and on mail days where new additions arrive along with other cards that are far more valuable, I end up looking at the Fisk cards first every time 😀.
Congrats on the awesome pick-up. Collecting is fun, no matter what you are collecting. I sell stuff to buy PC things but am very discerning (ie cheap) in what I buy....more interested in photo variations that anyting. ENJOY!

Awesome collection. Would love to see a longer video showcasing your entire Butler PC together, explaining everything. I wasn't in the hobby during those years and would love to see and learn about them.
I may have to do so eventually! It has really grown over the past few years. I have learned to love the 2005-2014 era because of it.
@@scottiebcards2354 Do you know about the 2006 Topps blue parallel? Like the 2014 1st Editions there were supposed to be 10 factory sets but there was only 1 set redeemed. The /7. I got the Mariano when I brought out a Mo collection like this one you just got.

The joy of collecting. My weird guy to collect is Andruw Monasterio, who is a utility infielder that rarely sees the field for the Brewers. The guy has a great eye and a great love of the game, and it's just the kind of player I like the most.
Its all about collecting what you like. I been doing this same thing collecting all the different Mark Grace cards I can find. Solid player, not a hall of famer but the pkayer who made an impression on me as a kid.

Really cool to see such a rare collection find the light of day. I have a huge Nick Madrigal collection. His career went into the toilet, but that just makes his rare stuff affordable to me. I always like the fact that a guy as small as he is was able to be drafted 4th overall and make it to the show.

Glad you got a good pickup for a player you like. I like to collect more obscure players too; i.e. Charlie Keller, Bob Meusel, Tommy Henrich and one of the most forgotten HoF players of all-time Bill Dickey. ⚾ 🇺🇲
Great collection, player/team collecting , no matter the value, is a great part of the hobby, as someone collecting on a very limited budget, this is nice to see.

This is awesome. I personally player collect miguel cabrera. It's fun to collect as many unique cards of him as possible, regardless of the value.

Surprised to hear Butler went to church. When he played in Oakland he was trash. Fought his team mates on the daily and treated fans like crap. He was dropped becuz nobody could get along with him. I believe we have him the biggest contract in our history so his time with us was disappointing to say the least. Glad to hear that may have just been a bad year for him.
