    I love Brittany. Glad you had a good time.
    Interesting fact (I hope). In the late 19th/ early 20th century French onion sellers used to come over to Britain. Don’t ask me why British onions weren’t considered to be as good. Anyway, my grandmother told me that her mother could understand the Breton onion sellers and they could conduct a rudimentary conversation in Breton/Welsh. Seems there’s quite a lot of shared vocabulary between Breton and Welsh. It’s a shame the French haven’t given the Breton language the same protection that Welsh has had since the 70s.

    • @caromurray6152
      @caromurray6152 2 роки тому +2

      Ynys, my grandmother also told me about the Breton onion sellers & how she ( or maybe her mother) could understand them. Like you I’ve no idea why they came to Wales, maybe their onions just tasted better?😊

    • @WingingItWithAsh
      @WingingItWithAsh  2 роки тому +2

      Oh my GOSH you guys! I LOVE this conversation SO MUCH. Thank you so much for sharing about the onion sellers. I never would have known but its incredible that they were able to understand each other. SO COOL! Linguistics is such a fascinating thing. Truly amazing! Please keep the cool facts coming!

    I love medieval cities. I grew up in Normandie in a small medieval town. I remember when I was a child, I visited the city of Saint Malo in Brittany (Bretagne) with my classroom. There was a museum about French corsairs, terror of the sea, it was so fun. One day, I would like to visit Orléans during the Johannique celebration because I have a passion for Jeanne d'Arc story. I would like to visit Carcassonne too and Rennes le Chateau (if I find the treasure, I warn you)...

      I have received my passport and attended the TBEX conference. I will not be putting up a video of the conference as I was there to learn myself and figured a vlog about a conference was not very exciting. Thanks for asking about it though. When we went to Brittany we ordered pancakes at this cafe as they'd been recommended. But when they arrived it was a load of crepe.

      So I guess you'll never return there... Just as well, as in Brittany they haven't got time for visitors with shite (should I say "crepe"?) humour.
      Age-old joke, pal. Tired, exhausted, worn out and threadbare.

      @@marie-claudeguegan3219 On the contrary, I love Brittany - its culture, its food, its history and look forward to going back soon. One thing I love about the Breton people is they understand what a joke is - even a tired, old joke. They'll groan and roll their eyes, sure, but take it in the way it is intended and give as good as they get.

      @@EASYTIGER10So when in Brittany, you only come across locals who speak perfect English and understand it, even down to fogeyish jokes? Strange, didn't know there were so many bilinguals in the region. Or is it just that you
      strictly mix with expats?

      This time allowed me to live a "normal" life in Paris and over all I really do love it. The people I've met, the picnics on the river, and the over all city impressed me so much. Overall a great impression. :)

    Not "Dinnan", it's more "Dee-Nah(n)" ... so prepare to say the "n", start to say the "n" ..... but, at the very last moment .... don't say the "n". It's taken me a while (of living in France) to get used to almost pronouncing that final letter .....but not quite saying it. Cordialmen(t).
