    As I said in the video, I should comment on the clasp issue:). When I was taking pictures at the end of this project, I put a small piece of 18 gauge silver round wire through the hole in the front piece of copper. I then bent it into a 'U' shape around the copper tab and squished it tight against the copper. Following this, I cut it so it is just a linear bump of silver projecting up from the copper tab. Once I did this, it pops nicely into place and stays there, while being easy to pull open.

      Hi Chad! Thank you for this follow up! Would there be any way you could post either pictures or a quick video showing the new working clasp? This intermediate silversmith would so greatly appreciate it!

    This is such an unbelievable work of art! I am blown away and thankfully I came across the expression „to pickle“ in connection with silversmithing before, so I do not think you have odd cravings for some sour cucumbers anymore. It took me a while, I must admit. 😅 Thank you for your amazing inspirations!!!

      Thank you for the really nice comment! To be honest, I do really like dill pickles on sandwiches:)

      @@chadssilversmithing completely understandable. We over here in Germany kinda pickle everything. 😅

    I was just thinking of something like this! I was thinking more of an old Bible with red cabs forming the cross. Probably add a black patina to give it that Gothic look.

    My mom has a gold book that ha six pages. Each page has a name and date of birth for her loved ones. She use to wear it on a charm bracelet, but since has it to just wear around her neck. I love this idea. As much as I love jewelry, my passion is books.

    Chad, I have just one complaint......I can only hit the like button once! I wanted to trampoline on the like button. I have granddaughters and nieces that would love this one. thank you for sharing such a beautiful project I can't wait to give it a try

      Thanks Jayanthikanderi! This one took some time, but mostly not too difficult. Hinges take a little practice, and if you watched it all the way to the end, you saw that the clasp was problematic, so I would do that different maybe. I appreciate your nice comment:)

    You could use bent wire for the clasp with a ball on the bottom that the wire clips onto. That's how my moms book closes.

    Thank you for your instructive videos! I like this small book with it's copper details.
    I was thinking the wire in the hinges could be riveted instead of soldered...

    Ahhh, English teachers. That's why you talk good! 😅 Chad, when you anneal, do you find that your annealed metal is softer if you let it cool naturally or when you quench (in water)? I like this project. Thank you! 🌺 🌺 🌺

    • @chadssilversmithing
      @chadssilversmithing  8 місяців тому +1

      Hello Flying Chef:). I usually let it cool part of the way, then get impatient and quench to cool the rest of the way. Seems to do a good job. Suppose I should be scientific and test to see if there's much difference, but I never have. Glad you like the project.

      @@chadssilversmithing I personally would love to see what your conclusion would be. I'll join you in the research, and we can compare notes. I'm going to do it and get an anecdotal result, instead of looking it up on Ganoksin, lol! 🌺 🌺 🌺
