Nothing like that glan glan glan glan sound of the GM diesel!
I've only seen one Cadillac Fleetwood with a Diesel Engine, and that was way back in 1985 and the guy who owned it was a carpenter who bought it brand new and used it as his work car.
We had this exact car except it was an 83. My parents had the 83 gas. Needles to say, they were both at the Cadillac service department more than our new Cadillac's that followed over the last 30+ years have ever been. But you couldn't beat the comfort of the Fleetwood Brougham EVER! Miss those days...
I miss mine too. Had the 86 with the oldsmobile gas motor
That sound sure brings back memories of my deceased neighbor's 1981 Coupe deVille diesel that they bought new. They had the motor replaced with a gas engine in the late 80's.

Hello Proud New caddy Owner:
I agree absolutely. Too bad you didn't get to pay more for her but that is how it goes. Hope you get lots of good diesel driving.

If I won the lottery, I'd buy up all these wonderful old diesel cars. These cars are getting almost impossible to find and are gaining value.
I had only just like that , but blue. The two batteries gave me a WTF moment at the time
these were great cars, if you kept the oil changed, let them warm up enough and didn't floor them cold...
I never really çàred about fuel mileage but I did find the car/ fàscinating
Where is it now? I want it!!! 😎 seriously
I wonder how much heavier the diesel engine was versus the gasoline engine?
If you fill the engine completely with oil it'll run quieter, diesel oil only
I found a 82 sedan de ville in 1986 for 2995 because it was a diesel, they had Alot of problems back then so they we're going cheap, but Alot of people was buying them because of the price, a 4 year old Cadillac for a few thousand dollars because of the motor was bad wow, they would take the 350 olds diesel out and put in a regular 350 olds gas motor , cleaned the gas tank , flushed out the lines and you got a 20,000 car for 3,000, and so when the car dealerships found out what was going on , they upped the price on the cars or was converting the cars themselves .
Or GM replaced the original Diesel engine with the "350DX Goodwrench Diesel engine. These engines were just about Bulletproof. I wish I had a barn full of Goodwrench 350DX crate engines. I would've loved to put them in later model cars. I love these engines!
@@SteveHolsten I uses to like running these Olds diesel engines in Demo Derby cars. No, they didn't have alot of power. But they never stalled. Ever. Unless they run out of fuel or the pistons melt, they don't stop running.
I want it
Wow, this video is old, so if anybody else stops by within the next few months or three years of this posting, here's my 2 cents. When I was in my early 20's back in 1988, I was given a 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan that burned Diesel; it was loud and a smoker but dependable right up until the day the injector pump let go in the fall of 1990.
So what is the mpg on it?
Believe it or not, those Oldsmobile diesels got around 25-30 MPG
