- Scenery Upgrades - Allotments, Cottages and Station Details - The Yorkshire Dales Model Railway
This week I spruced up a few areas of the layout. I added some climbing roses to a few of the cottages, added vegetable patches to the farmhouse and advertisement signs to the station.
As always, thanks for watching.

just when we thought that it couldn't be any better ❗️It could‼️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thanks 😀
Its the little details that bring a layout to life .Looking good .
Thanks David 👍🏻
Hey, Lewis! It is amazing. One sits here and sees the work and things... perfect... then you add a small rose bush or flower and it just adds another element of life that is takes it up another notch. Great video!
Thanks Anthony!
It does :-D
Welcome back Lewis. Nice little finishing touches there. Just adds to the overall interest. Nice.
Thanks Peter 👍🏻
Always a pleasure watching your videos.
Glad you enjoy them!
your layouts are awesome , your little touches today especially the posters have made the platforms great
Thank you 👍🏻
Your revenue from the various adverture signs must go straight up - very good for this No. 1 scenic railway!
Thanks 😀
Hi Lewis, A great layout even getting refined with the details. Colors and life. Just beautiful and as always most enjoyable to watch your excellent video's. Congratulations with the publication of your wonderful Railway. I'll try to get a copy. Best wishes, Filip
Thanks Filip!
Good evening!
Your model railway layout has a fine liveliness
Thank you 😀
The posters do make a difference. Give the station an atmosphere.
Thanks David!
Very nice update Lewis!! I love raiding
my Wife's magazines when she's done with them plus advertising I get
in the Mail for stuff I could use on
Billboards around my Conrail layout!!
Hopefully one day I can retire and
finish it!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks! That’s a great idea actually 🤣
Lewis, This is brilliant. Very good. Love the veg plots.
Thanks 👍🏻
New I hadnt seen you in a while, yes you have made a nice difference, always love this.
Thank you! 😊
Certainly adds atmosphere
Thanks 👍🏻
Stunning layout
Thanks Chris
Congratulations on the article in the magazine. I must see if I can buy a copy. I also liked your additions and splendid eye for detail.
Thanks James!
Morning Lewis, firstly let me congratulate you on the article in the Hornby magazine, it was a good article and goes some way to showing how much care you put into Railway. One thing I've always appreciated and indeed enjoyed is how we never see any of the edges of the boards of bits of the room, things that shouldn't be there. Only the scene and stories your showing. You take a lot of care. What a difference a bit of detailing make the colour on the cottage walls and the vegetables growing in the raised beds, it's all looking great. I knew from things you've said before that you're other layout was at your parents house, but I didn't appreciate just how far you had to travel to put together some of these films. Still I suppose your parents get to see you occasionally. As normal I've enjoyed both reading the article and see how you added some more details in your very distinctive and relaxing way. Take care Lewis. Looking forward to seeing the next adventure. Eddy xx
Thanks Eddy - appreciate it. Yep it’s a job to remember to bring the right stock down with me each time, and to squeeze in 20 minutes to actually film something!
Lewis love watching your video and liked thanks for sharing DD.
Thank you 👍🏻
@@MouldyRaspberry Your welcome Lewis.
Endless summer!
Indeed!
Hi Lewis ,Really liked your article in Hornby magazine this month , very interesting .At first looking at layout without added extras then the fine tuning certainly makes a big difference ,of a layout with life such as flowers , & veggie patch does make the layout come to life ,etc .Always interesting to see what you run or work on .Thank you .😊
Thanks Steven, glad you liked the article 👍🏻
Love this layout, a real railway in the landscape.
Great to see your layout in print, would love to get mine into a magazine.
Thanks Mark!
Hi Lewis, the article in the magazine was brilliant so well done. I think you should use less miracle grow on the veggies though lol 😂 another great video
Thanks Barry 😀
Absolutely fantastic. One of the best layouts. The scenery is great. Everything looks real. 👌
Thank you 👍🏻
Those are some nice additions. Looks like that cottage owner is entering a gigantic veg competition with the size of those cauliflowers, must have some really good soil in the Dales.
Ha thanks Rob - each one of those would feed ten people 🤣
I think Grommit would be proud of those. They'd be sure to earn him the Golden Carrot, although there's a danger the Were rabbit might get them!😁
Great video mate!
an encouraging one to get people back into the hobby 👍
Thanks Nick 👍🏻
Very nice! Amazing details!
Thanks 👍🏻
A pleasant change from watching trains go by, enjoyable as that is 👍👍👍👍
Glad you liked it 👍🏻
Very nice layout!!
Thanks 👍🏻
Lovely additions to the station and surrounding area. I really adore the veggie garden looks great with the tomatoes and brussel sprouts, not forgetting the roses next to the farmhouse. The advert boards also elevate the station to more awareness around the building. Really lovely job
Thanks very much 😀
Brilliant modelling as always, cannot add much as its all been said, absolutely superb.
Thanks Colin!
I like the advert signs. Very nostalgic. My dad got us kids Virol. It’s not easy to describe. It was like marmite in consistency, but much different in taste as in, much better. Actually, it was delicious. I also remember Fry’s Five Boys Chocolate.
Thanks, me too 👍🏻 I can’t remember any of them but I still appreciate the nostalgia!
Great to see you in the Hornby mag, well deserved.
It's probably just me, but those rose bushes look a bit off. The blooms would be football-sized.
Personally, I'd try to trim them down and maybe re-apply the trimmings somewhere else on the plant.
Anyway. could you remind me where those flexible drystone walls you're using came from, please? The ones you didn't create yourself. Cheers!
Thanks Gerry - I think most oo gauge things like that are over-scale, even ballast. The walls are from Osbourne models 👍🏻
I am always astonished, how great the scenery is been done. Barely find anything for upgrade, I think it´s perfect. For this one need a lot of tranquil approach to execute this kind of fine art. Unfortunatly I don´t have it. Therefore it´s a pleasure to look at this outlet.
Thank you 👍🏻
It's all about the little details and what you've added certainly has added more interest to each scene. Excellent as always cheers Andy
Thanks Andy 👍🏻
I've missed my fix of YDMR videos recently and it is rather good to see developments around this part of the layout. The changes you have made certainly enhance the whole thing. As an aside, my wife and I took our nine-year-old grandson up from Peterborough to Keighley and did a trip on the K&WVR last Friday. We also took some pics of Sir Nigel Gresley at Wansford on Thursday. Happy days! Regards, as ever, Eric.
Thanks Eric. Glad you got to see 60007!
All the little improvements help. Great job, congrats on being in the Hornby Magazine.Have a great day.
Thank you 👍🏻
Looks really good adds that special something, that enhances the realism of your layout, love the music too.
Thank you 😀
Superb layout! I've used all of those products on my 00 Aand 009 layouts
Thanks!
I took a lot of inspiration and modelling techniques for my layouts from your videos
Two of the advert stickers grabbed my attention. Meaning the black cat one (I'm a cat lover) and the Fry's Chocolate one (I'm a choco-holic). This is kind of what Tony North Eastern does when he's adding scratch-builds to his railway: run a steamy at the beginning.
I’m with you in the chocolate one! 😀
Hi Lewis,
It is amazing what you have just added has made a big difference to your layout, it actually brings more alive. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg 👍🏻
Hi. Nice additions added there. Looks good. Also nice to see my favourite loco running and on the cover of the magazine.
Thanks Ralph 👍🏻
Enjoyed seeing your layout in the Hornby mag, May I suggest around the farm house a serise 1 or 2 Land Rover (weathered), with a old Moggie Traveler for the farmers wife maybe?
Glad you liked it 👍🏻 I like that idea.
looks good good vid thanks lee
Thanks Lee 👍🏻
Great additions to an already superb layout. I wish I knew what the farmer was putting on his vegetables!
Thanks - me too!
Good to see you back, Lewis!
On a September visit to Alaska I observed vegetables just like that! The growing season is short, but the sun does not set, so vegetablez grow to be huge.
I save my coffee stirrers for the same sort of usage as you. Free, and partly stained by the dark liquid!
As for you, why were you handling rose bushes without gloves upon your hands? Those little thorns can be very hard on your flesh!
Wow I never thought about that! These must be Alaskan cabbages then! They’re very very useful aren’t they 😀
That photo angle from over the new vegetable plot and down the track to Misselthwaite is superb, by the way!
All the things you added to your awesome layout are really good ie signs on your fences and tomato plants look great absolutely and to scale. But the only thing that I noticed is the size of the cauliflowers (man they are as big as 1 of them plastic bouncy balls that kids play with on the beach haha) and the roses bushes that you put in to me look way too big.
I mean if you look it the size of the flowers on the stems and on the vines they are way bigger than the stones that are layed in the house and near as big as the windows. Maybe they are for O guage I mean yes they are pretty but just a tad big in my oppinion. Everything else look's awesome ,, especially the signs.
Cheers from John in Australia
Thanks John, appreciate it 😀
Fantastic lew 👍congratulations on the photo shoot and front cover well done

Sion
Cheers Sion, appreciate it mate
Hi Lewis what a difference adverts make to the station fences and the over all look of it. the veg patch and roses look great too mate well done. thank you Lewis.
Thanks Tony 👍🏻
Fantastic additions to an already incredible and inspiring layout thanks for sharing
Thank you 👍🏻
I really love the roses around, my mom's home have a garden wall with splendid ones growing there.
I'm linking your video to my coworker, your cauliflower and broccoli patch would inspire her. Yummy tomatoes too !
For the advertisement signs, it's a staple of every UK station up to the railblue era, that was missing on your layout. For my UK-themed layouts, in OO, I had planned to do some my own, I have some humouristic ideas about some of them...
Thanks very much Olivier - glad you liked the editions!
Still watching all your videos Lewis, even though I have been a little stingy with my comments of late! Lol
Nice to see some more scenery work.
Always love the layout.
Hey when are you coming back to Canada? Lol
Cheers
Bob
Thanks Bob 😀 Hopefully in the not too distant future!
The advertising signs make a massive difference (though it was good before). As others have said is the little details that can make or break a layout.
Thank you 👍🏻
Excellent enhancements to the railway Lewis, I bought the magazine when your loft layout was in it, going to get the magazine with this one in now.
Thank you 👍🏻
Looks like a lot of work with those gardens MrMouldy. Weather has been awful too. Nice vid😊
Thanks John 👍🏻
Very beautiful!
Thanks!
great video
Thanks 👍🏻
@@MouldyRaspberry no problem
I bought the magazine today snd was massively impressed with the still photos as well as reading about your journey in railway modelling. I was also astonished to read you have a 300 mile return journey to merge the 2 layouts into one seamless video. I did smile when you said you had to think about the set up for continuity purposes. You recall the inconsistency I noticed? 😉 James
Thanks James - glad you liked the article! 😀
Looks fantastic m8
Thanks 👍🏻
wow , what ya been feeding those cabbages ?? Tiny signs are an excellent product and give a real feel of the era >
Thanks - I agree! Very nutritious soil in Misselthwaite 😉
Nice video of the Layout hope to see maybe another upgrade is maybe a turntable so locos can go turn round facing the right way for the return trip
Thanks Terry - cool idea 👍🏻
Don't forget - in the 1950s there would be vending machines on the platforms (cigarettes / chocolate), as well as station cafes.
Good suggestion!
Fantastic layout. Not sure about the new scenics though. They look a little over scale?
Thanks 👍🏻 They’re just big and juicy
In my opinion, all those roses and cauliflowers look like jurassic mutants - totally out of scale, as if they were more fit for a 0 scale layout.😮
They’ll look perfect if I add a Triceratops grazing on them though
@@MouldyRaspberry As a well-earned tribute to John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid RR famous layout. An excellent idea there👍😉
Yes, that.
I can't understand why do few people are sensitive to the fact that whilst the modelling sentiment is laudable, the cauliflowers are half the size of a window and the rose flowers are bigger than a human head.
This would be the land of the triffids and deeply disturbing.
I love your layout and your modelling skills, but I think the flowers on those roses look oversize for 4mm scale.
Yes maybe 2mm scale ones would work better 👍🏻
I would love them cabbages in my garden enormous?
Prizes winning cabbages
Nice bout of scenery work there. I particularly love the vines although I rather make mine using cotton thread for the branches, dried and colored used tea leaves for... leaves and colored tapioca for fruits (less expensive than using "out of the shelf" products.). I also am starting designing OO models to 3-D print I plan to release via CG Trader with emphasis on LMS and LNER with a bit of GWR too. (those will be released as STL files for resin 3-D printers). I may send some of those to you if you're interested in building and reviewing them. The first model will be the signal box in Blue Anchor (West Somerset).
Thanks Eric - that’s a nice idea. Yeah sounds great i’d love to check it out!
Really enjoyed that, I would like to know what the name/make your buildings are please? I can identify some but most are unknown to me!
Thanks! The station and goods shed is from here:

The cottages are scratch built.
@@MouldyRaspberry wow great job on the wooden kits, I had no idea they were wood!
Could you do a tutorial on how to control all tracks from one controller just like this layout if possible? I’m starting to create my own layout and need a bit of help!
If you Google DC layout wiring there are some good videos on UA-cam. I used powered rail joiners for mine that connect to the controller.
@@MouldyRaspberry Perfect thank you!
Love this layout. Could I ask what camera you use to do your videos with and how easy is it to edit?
I use my iPhone 11 and edit on there on iMovie so it’s super easy 👍🏻
Wow🤯 really! That's amazing thank you for replying! Love the videos! 👍
Muszę przyznać że słów nie rozumię , ale podziwiam i oglądam z zachwytem.
Serdeczne Pozdrowienia z Polski.
To moja ulubiona i najwspanialsza makieta kolejowa. 👍 🤗
🚂🚃🚃🚃, (h).
Dziękuję bardzo 😀
Do you use Noch laser cut mini's?
is that a wills kit added onto
No just scratch built
@@MouldyRaspberry very well dun
The scale of the roses looks wrong. Each bloom is twice the size of the cottage roses head
They’re just giant prize winning roses
@@MouldyRaspberry Your answer to the scale of the roses made me laugh. Excellent answer. It's your photography that is so very skillful.
I’d never dare criticise you but I was amused at your response!
@@MouldyRaspberry What, the Monsanto Scared Your Kids prize?
Such a gentleman, you must be super depressed in life
add in a few rabbits and birds
Good idea 👍🏻
"😘"...Kindly regards Lewis and thanks for your always great work, even without until now small rabbits and birds Mrbrianstewart😱😂 ...👌!!! CHEERS, Olli the crazy Z-scaler @@MouldyRaspberry
