I hear you. It's similar here in Europe (both eastern and western). By the time people finish high school they are so desensitized due to ruthless competition, watching Game of Thrones, getting cheated on by your significant other, seeing how salesmen, bankers and gangsters are held in high regard, so you kinda expect people to f you over...
Makes me curious about what Vietnam is really like, what behavior standards prevail, what sort of content is consumed... And it makes me sad about what we've done with ourselves...
The wind, one brilliant day, called
to my soul with an odor of jasmine.
"In return for the odor of my jasmine,
I'd like all the odor of your roses."
"I have no roses; all the flowers
      in my garden are dead."
"Well then, I'll take the withered petals
and the yellow leaves and the waters of the fountain."
the wind left. And I wept. And I said to myself:
"What have you done with the garden that was entrusted to you?"
      (Antonio Machado)

There's a lot of supplementary info that the final cut of the movie glosses over or leaves out in deleted scenes worth keeping in mind.
Like Meryl's in-universe actress cheating her way into Truman's life ahead of other applicants, a second channel planned for Truman's kid, Marlon's asking if they go back to single channel format once Truman dies and his kid is the new primary star, his stints in rehab, his genuine guilt, and him letting Truman go.
The show music itself is also not licensed, Truman knew that he was right when Marlon said he'd have to have been in on it, and Truman's dad reappearing sealed it.

@@WHADATBOYNAMEIS It is way more common than you think. There is a tool called the Bite Model, which is used to measure the level of control of different religions and other groups. The Bite Model does not actually use the term Cult, but it is used to determine if an organization is toxic, with the intent of helping to fix that organization. Most people consider a high score on the Bite Model a good indication that a religion is a cult, and I think that is a healthy way to use the term cult. Members of my old faith would disagree and feel hurt if they were called a cult, but the level of toxic control, the attacks on ex-Members (mostly ostracization and attacks on reputation rather than violence but that happens) as well as the financial exploitation of members in both getting them to fork over large amounts of money and time and the lies used to get them to provide free labor to the church. 22:45 "Does he know how to drive?"
Probably not. Driving a commercial bus requires a Class C CDL which requires a weekend's worth of training. But it doesn't matter. The objective is to prevent Truman from _leaving._

Probably the most amazing reaction I've seen to any movie. All of you ladies do such a great job. I guess the whole Idea of movies is to extract all sorts of emotions from us. But to see you two react this way just shows me that there are some amazing actors and directors out there. Oh and Greetings from Vung Tau!!

I usually watch their reactions to comedies but I'm glad I watched this one. Their hearts are so big. Especially poor Hella; she was really going through it here.
I just watched the Liar Liar reaction directly before this and the contrast between their reactions to each movie is beyond night and day. I don't know if I've seen them laugh so hard than they did at Liar Liar and I've certainly never seen them cry so hard as they did here. It's really a huge testament to Jim Carrey and his capability and range as an actor. He was my absolute favorite actor of all time growing up and it feels so special to watch someone experience his works for the first time.

His last name, Burbank, is a reference to Burbank, California. It's just a few miles from Hollywood, and many entertainment and media companies have their headquarters and major studios located there. And if you ever plan on visiting LA, i highly recommend flying in and out of the Burbank airport instead of LAX.

I get the impression that's what Truman was saying by just walking out. He understood, as the only member of that cast who sincerely believed he was living his true life, he was the cornerstone of their business model, without which, they were doomed to collapse now that he was gone.

Hella don't ever change ! Your jagged emotions , are both refreshing , and devastating . To see you so completely immersed in the story being depicted , shows the power of the medium . Truth in fiction ! It is incredible that Jim Carrey was not even nominated for an Academy Award , something about him JUST being some buffoon comedian . I think this movie shows who the true buffoons are .

I always find the part where his boat hits the wall and then he's trying to break through it very disturbing because I've had nightmares like that all my life, that I was trapped inside a building and couldn't get outside. Often in my dream I manage to smash through a wall or ceiling only to find that there is a bigger building built around the one I was just inside.
