andre never be a good scorer anyways. He is a good dunker and defender, but he is not even on an allstar level, similar to Trevor Ariza. (He didn’t do that good in 76ers after AI got traded.)

    • @Sleven77
      @Sleven77 5 років тому +9

Andre was an allstar in 2012 and won an Olympic gold medal. He wasn't a top scorer, but he did average around 19pts during his last few years in Philly. That does sound similar to Ron Harper. Harper was never the top dog on his teams even when he was a borderline allstar.

Ron Harper was relentless on both sides of the ball! He made clutch shots, created turnovers for every advantage. He learned from his mistakes. He overcame many personal challenges growing up. He struggled with a speech impediment that wasn't bad, but he was self conscious at times.
He fit perfectly into the Bulls arsenal of weapons & game strategy! He seemed to be the happiest Bull on the floor when they won that '90 championship. They rest became business as usual.

I wouldn‘t say nobody talks of him. When you‘ve seen the 95-98 Bulls years, you clearly recognized Harpers needed key roll in the Bulls-system - especially in defense (he had a hugh impact with still his athletism and his extreme reach) but in offense with his allround game and smart transformation into an effective offensive option as well.
Furthermore at this time in media (not only in the States) it has been talked about it again and again.
When you remember these games and talk about it - you talk about Harp as well.

Ron's greatness is in part to take 4th or 5th option when he had the game and skills to be the 2nd best on the second three-peat Bulls, and making sure nobody had easy way to get to the basket by guarding the perimeter. The Bulls fans and the 90s fan know his greatness on the court. And off the court, by appearing on Kenan and Kel episode. That's when I thought he really made it.

Even though he never became a super star he has played with many legends in the NBA and help win titles. Many super stars in the NBA haven't been able to accomplish as much as him while being a great team mate. I remember watching the Bulls with Harper, Pippen Rodman and Jordan thinking all other guards were going to be in trouble with these guys.

Harper was the crucial part of the NBA first small ball concept line up. Small ball didn't start off by Steph or warriors, it started on the 96 bulls.

Harper was a good defender in Cleveland... he actually played Jordan well, he kept him honest against Cleveland. MJ obviously got his like he always did but Harper was a big reason why the Bulls sweated 6 victories to 4 losses vs Cleveland in back to back first rounds in 88 and 89... including a 6-0 regular season mark in 88-89

A B.J. Armstrong vid would be interesting. I agree Harper was a 15 to 20 point scorer on most other teams. He was kind of built like Jordan and Pippen...6'6 or 6"7 and he had that length for playing defense. He definitely sacrificed his stats for team success in a system. I was surprised to see he only averaged over 7 points a game one of his years as a bulls starter. Luc Longley even scored more than him. Nice vid.

That goes to show Winning and Championships, most of the time, outweigh individual accolades. I’m pretty sure Ron knew he could be a 1st or 2nd option. He was a damn beast. Borderline All-star. But he wanted to win. That’s actually a mighty fine way to go if you ask me. A part of Championship teams.

Ron was the head part of that hounding perimeter defense that milked the shotclock on opposing teams and always seemed to reel in the score at the end of quarters. Because of his work MJ and Scottie could play the passing lanes very aggressively. He was a great talent.

I feel like Ron is the perfevt example of a Solid Rotation Player like him which is the "level" that I use in Hardwood Amino. Guys like Iggy and K-Love were the main example of that in recent times and thanks largely to Ron Harper setting a standard to those 2 players that I just mentioned.

  • @paksta

Glad you’re giving him his due. Interesting how many Eastern Conference rivals ended up playing with Jordan (Parish, Salley, Edwards, Harper, Rodman)
    Fun fact:
Even whilst playing alongside Jordan, Ron Harper actually maintained his PER, and Win Shares. His salary was also his best of his career.

What's crazy is a young Harper and Michael went at it especially when he was a cavalier. I remember. I always respected him for putting stats aside and playing His role. This video shocked me because I always talked about how he changed especially defensively. He really humbled His game because he could always score. I agree with the Kevin Love comparison. It was similar

I’ve never forgotten about Ron Harper I’m a bulls fan but I knew who Ron Harper was before he got to Chicago. Ron was always a very good defensive player since he came in the league in Chicago he was a great defender. Michael Jordan bugged Jerry Krause about getting Ron Harper for years mostly because of the defense Harper played on him. Michael wanted someone in practice that could guard him so when he played in games against other defenders it was nothing compared to how Harper played him so it made it easier

Ron Harper was a beast and a huge part of the second bulls 3 peat im happy some one finally got a video on him right it wasn't that he couldn't still drop 20+Ppg he just knew his role and sacrificed a lot to become a part of a dynasty like Rodman at that time he didn't have to be the guy who scored every play and he made a huge impact defensively
