Would have loved to see/hear the product being used on various trail/terrain types and cycle thru the different modes. You mentioned that it's hard to hear when a biker is coming from behind, so perhaps you could include footage from a fellow trail user's perspective when using this product. Looks like you had a bunch of video of you using it, but didn't include any with sound. I liked your commentary, but I came to your video with intent to see it in action and all I got was you jingling it for a couple seconds.
Yea makes sense, but the clips showing the sound of the bell is very representative of how it sounds on the trail. Loud enough for anyone to hear within 50-100ft (likely more). I'm a one-man operation, so 3rd person perspectives are often challenging.
Yes... I can confirm, absolutely a great friendly sound for people you may found on the trail.....only.. after a few ride on the mountain I lost the small striker inside the bell and I don't know how to replace it and what could be a similar and most appropriate solution...can you help me?
I successfully tested my Timber! bell at 6am this morning. I had the bell on and was chugging up a hill, pinging away, when a black bear jumped out of the brush onto the logging road about 6m/20ft away. It turned towards the noise/ me and then ran up the hill and off into the forest on the other side of the road. I had bear spray on my top tube but I doubt I could have put my hand down in time if the bear had moved towards me than away. Do I recommend this bell? Hell Yeah!
I've encountered these bells on bike paths and trails and it is beyond quiet. It's like hearing a fairy world in a distant land but instead it's someone trying to pass you and they're less than a yard away.
Mind blown how I was casually looking for a review on a mtb bell only to find that the first video I click on is one made by a professor from my school hahahaha. Love to see it!
I'm a novice rider, and I had to pull off the trail after eating shit hard last weekend. A few guys went by and they had these bells (they were ripping) and it was FANTASTIC knowing when they were coming so that I didn't re-enter the trail at the worst time possible. At that moment I knew I had to have one of these bells. I don't exactly rip, but I wanted to have SOME way to notify other riders when my dumb ass is coming down the trail.
Omg thank you . I am a avid horse camper. And it is so respectful to hear bikers coming down the mountain so we can get away 😂 I’m talking my son to the beach and I’m looking for the best bells . So he can warn people that they got a 7yr old who will cut you off ! So they can look and see! Ok get the F out of the way ! Just like us horse people do when respectful riders do ❤️ when they are hauling ass down the mountain! I really don’t blame them 😃
This seems great for riding on a trail but I wish there would be a similar product for the city. Same function but much louder so that it is audible next to a crowded street.
When in Cali 4 years ago I heard others Mtn bikes behind me and this bell. I purchased one when I returned to Massachusetts. This bell is well know in Cali. I hope your video gives this great bell a wider exposure. Funny though when coming up to elderly walker, It's the woman who hears the bell. The men hardly do.
I initially used a Spurcycle bell before switching to a Crane bell. Many elderly men couldn’t hear the Spurcycle bell until I was right behind them, likely because it has a higher pitch and hearing loss often affects higher-pitched sounds first. The Crane bell, being louder and having a lower pitch, worked much better.
I will look into the Crane bell. BTW I email the makers of the Timber bell and they were aware of old men not hearing the bell and were trying to fix that problem.
How long have you used it for? My timber! Is coming up to 2 years old now and the plunger/lever to release the striker has failed. It no longer locks in place and any small bump will force the lever down to the 1st notch allowing the bell to activate. Pretty frustrating. I can't say I could recommend the bell. But I'm interested in seeing if that flaw was fixed in the v3 or even the v4. (The bell isn't that loud irl use either)
Interesting to know. I’ve had line over a year, but not yet 2 yrs. No issues so far and I switch it back an forth between bikes a lot. I pretty much use it on every ride, gravel or mtb. Will report back if it starts to fail. As long as I’m not bombing at an unreasonable speed, people hear me coming and are usually appreciative of the advanced notice.
I’ve hard mine for +3 years so I must have had one of the first models. It’s perfect for solo mtb rides in the dark (early morning/ night) and its still working well. So far, no bears or cougars and only deer. (Vancouver Island has more cougars per arc/ha than anywhere in North America so they are a hazard). I definitely recommend this product.
Viewers can observe your expertise as a professor... you are a pro at teasing out information on a bell. Does the incessant ringing get to you over time? I like to wear one wireless earbud and listen to books on tape or podcasts during my long mountain bike rides.
Haha, ‘bell expertise.’ Nice idea on the books; hadn’t thought of it. I generally prefer to zen out in silence on solo rides (and in group rides too 🤣)
This is exactly the product I've been looking for. I first heard it on your Fullerton loop video. Later, last week in fact, I heard it while walking my dog on Coyote in Bonelli Park. So, thanks! Also, I think your review of a bike bell is a first. That's something considering how much material is out there.
@@TheBikeSauce great! I have the Future stem accessory mount with the hover bars so both my computer and headlight are out front and out of the way. Should be plenty of room for this. Also thanks for responding - as a fellow Diverge Sport Carbon owner (same colorway, even) your channel has been an essential resource for me. Great videos - keep it up!
As always, great review . . . Any chance you could review lighting (rear and front)? With the shorter days, I'm finding lighting a big issue on long rides where I push into the evening. Thanks in advance! A.
Excellent idea just bought one while listening. Tired of yelling at folks to let them know I am passing and scaring them accidentally and they go left instead of right.
Why did you show video examples of riding the bike on a bumpy trail with halfway open and flicking the bars to activate the bell, but talk over the footage so we couldn't hear the bell ring. In fact your review of a cycle bell didn't include cycling and a bell operating.
Great review and just in time as I was on a night ride in the forest and at some times so scared of wild life that I sang a lot. A bell like this would've been super usefull for that. You are doin great - thanks and keep it up! Big like from another family man and avid cyclist out of Germany!😄✌️

can how a bell reviewed without hearing a bell?
I'm gonna start riding with an air raid siren attached to my bike to alert everybody wearing noise-cancelling headphones to my presence.

Ha, thanks for that
@@TheBikeSauce five and a half minutes of talking and all I wanted was this.
I apologize
I reply 3times to hear sounds but no luck. thanks for sharing this.

I’ve come across people with this and being with beginners I can tell ya it was nice to hear someone coming so we could all get out of the way.

im sorry i still dont understand how the bell is activated, is it always going like a neighbors cat?
It always rings when switched on, but you can switch it off, which pulls the striker taught so it stops ringing when you don’t want to hear it

Check out the Swiss trail bell, too!
Is that fullerton loop ?
Haha, the moment I started the video something felt familiar. Turns out most of these clips are on my local trail which backs my house.

Am I the only engineer that gets perturbed when vendors upsell an elastic band as an o-ring? Asking for a friend.
Haha fellow engineer
How do you know someone’s an engineer?
They will tell you 🤣. I kid I kid. But it’s true 👀
Engineers are almost as bad as vegans.
Woah, double insult. Mind blown!
Would that fit around a 34,4mm(diameter) thick handlebar?
It will with the elastic band. That’s an interesting bar diameter tho. Not 35mm?
Would have enjoyed yearing it in actual use on the trail/road.
Interesting concept and it does sound nice.
Could you add a link in the description, plz?
Added!
anyone know how well this fits on Specialized hover bars?
I used to run it on my stock hover bars. Fine as long as you don’t have a ton of other bar accessories

The only thing is the bell sounds weak off key and not very pleasant and dull.
essential kit, i had no idea these kinds of bells existed

great bell and a fantastic idea stupid price

Great bell, doesn't work if you have a handle bar bag on your gravel bike. The bag muffles it.
I’ve been able to angle it so there’s a bit of separation, but I guess it would depend on your setup.
Took fucking forever to try it.

Couple of dollars will buy you some bear bells with a velcro loop. Job done
The reviews for this all say pretty much the same thing: it's great until it breaks after 3-5 months.
3 years ago, but bro you nailed it! Bravo 👏 sold!
5 minutes of that guy drowning on, and we heard the Bell for less than a second
Seriously, you are promoting a bell, yet you did not demonstrate?
😆
DON'T WATCH THIS VID HE DOESN'T TEST THE SOUND......
It’s there, buddy. Be patient
$25…nope
probably a good bell, but you did awful job demoing it. no sound at all. :

I’m looking for a bell but I’m not trying to hear the bell all the time and this looks like a buy.
An air horn wouldn’t clue in half of the people I come up on. Either they’re wearing headphones or yell gossiping.
