Jamie, I think a cool video would be you just sitting and explaining how it actually works out at pipeline. It’s unbelievable how many people are out there. How do you actually get into so many waves. Is there a hierarchy? Do guys get run over constantly? Ect. Ect.
Do a lot of people just sit out in the lineup and not even catch waves?

JOB. Some time can you explain how the pecking order at Pipe works? How is it decided that you get that wave? Do you wave people off. And how does it work when its so crowded out there? During the Backdoor Shootout the commentators were talking about how if you waive off others, you better go on that wave. If you don't, others will move you back in the lineup. Anyway, could you explain sometime for outsiders how this works at Pipe? Thanks.

It’s all based off how long people have been there essentially, guys like Jamie have been out there their whole lives and earned their place, the best example was Derek Ho who was at the peak of the heirarchy. It’s a system that works though, most waves have no system and violence is not uncommon. Pipeline allows you to share it respectfully and peacefully, so long as you know your place.
there’s local priority, but then there’s also priority by positioning yourself in the right spot

it is so mind-blowing how jamie plays on this wave. after all these years of watching him its still insane to see someone so in tune w such a gnarly wave he makes it seem like its your average 2-3 foot day at your local break. also he seems to be able to read people well as far as knowing how far to push them out of their comfort zone.

They can still surf very expensive resort like Kandui like , but even those start to be way crowded than years ago...

I absolutely love your videos, but something I say all the time to friends, is that as a surfer of 30 years, your POV footage, and other great North Shore UA-cam surfers like Koa Rothman and Nathan Florence 100% makes massive, life threatening waves look doable for your average surfer. It can honestly make a 20ft top to bottom wave look inconsequential with an easy paddle out. The size, heaviness and need for absolute knowledge and fitness is missing out in the GoPro POV footage. Personally, I understand how serious the waves are, but I honestly think it can encourage people who should not be in the lineup to give it a go. No idea if this is contributing to the crowds but heh. I think you should maybe always Picture in Picture a shot of the actual wave in context.
Jamie doesn't need to teach people about the hazards of surfing pipe. The ocean will learn ya quick. People drown and get crippled by waves all the time and pipe is totally unforgiving. If you don't know, you'll figure it out in a hurry.

I'm in Georgia and I met 3 teens at the skateparks (who's never surfed a day in the life) book a week vacation on the North Shore to go surfing. *Because they watch your videos*

Amazing!!! I am always in awe of how there is a pack of guys paddling but Jamie just appears, separates from them and glides in every time. Blair could surf a car door and make it look incredible.

They're really going to have to sell tickets like skiing and give people hourly slots. It was bad enough back in the 70's and early 80's. Now? Sad this generation has a 100 surfers and never a chance to surf Pipe solo or a handful of guys. Too many people=injuries and death.

Just go by the letters of the surfers last name. Have a check in area say Monday - A-E, Tuesday F-K, Wednesday L-Q, Thursday R-U, Friday W-X, Saturday Y-Z, Sunday - Family Day, Everyone can go. Otherwise you can't do license plate numbers because people will just switch out. If you want to crowd control then set up a check in stand like 1-2 miles up the road leading into the point, and it's like "What's your last name begin with?"

'It's getting worse' lol. I've been surfing longer than this bloke's been alive and almost every decent region on earth has had the same negative assessment since the 1970's. Pipe, Sunset, Winki, Bells, nsw=>qld, Margaret river, indo, fiji.. the list goes on. If you want to surf popular waves, then you're going to have to accept that lots of other people are too. Get over it.
