Since i was a child enjoy the silence was my favourite song, i simply love the bass, the harmonic and the acappella of this incredible piece. Every time i listen this song i've got goosepumps, like a voice from paradise.
You may already know this, but these aren't the official studio stems. Somebody (very impressively) ripped these. Anyway, that bass line is the Roland System 700 - a huge modular synth. And it's a four-bar sequence with each note set to a different cutoff frequency. Something else to note - the guitar is actually four recordings of the same part to make the chorus effect. I actually have much more in-depth stems including separate vocal tracks. I'm working on a Logic session that will have all of them laid out and mixed.
Hey man, i know this is probably a quite annoying question - but are you able to share those stems with me? I had that same session a while ago, but somehow, i’ve lost them over time:/ It would be nice to have them again! Thanks anyway! :)
Hey, so you mean these stems we are listening to we’re “stolen” from the studio somehow? That crazy! Where did you get you official tracks? I’d like to hear them. I remember covering this song when I was about 19. I recorded it and had the hardest time figuring out what sounds to use for all those synth parts. Of course I knew nothing about synthesis back then. Just some internal macro adjustments in existing patches.
@@yoyooo6419 If it's the session I think you're referring to, I never got a hold of it, but I have recorded different bits from different sources to create the full stems if that makes sense. And unfortunately, even if I had that session, it wouldn't be mine to give away or share. Sorry about that. However, a good source is the stems from the Rock Band 4 video game. Not everything is separated, but it's a great place to start. :)
@@davidasher22 Yeah, the original session (not shown in this video) was leaked and sold illegally, and I assume it was removed from the internet very quickly as it can't be found anywhere. As for what's in this video, I meant someone recorded different parts from the song itself. You can tell these aren't official by listening to the sounds here. For example, the kick has a closed hi-hat on top, the hi-hat doesn't sound quite right, the snare is cut off too short, etc.
@@andevode It’s all good, i’ve just been looking for the seperate drum tracks and other bits n’ pieces for ages now, so i just wanted to ask you if you could help me out:) But thank you for being so responsible and aware! And if you can (and want to) help me out with other and better sources than the 4 track stems, i would be very grateful!! But it’s also okay if you dont want to waste your time:) Cheers!
Arrrrgghhhh!! So f’n good! I’m loving your channel, your deep dives and gems like this. Saw DM on this tour, front row. It was amazing! Keep up the genius content!
@@luffegun Well deserved break! I’d love to hear you tackle something from Madonna’s Ray of Light album. Her collaborations with William Ørbit would be amazing to see through your Stem-analysis! I’m curious to see their production/sessions.
A very good insight look at the formation of the track. Great layers and textures and tones. It is something I aim for in my tracks. Videos like this help me understand things a little bit better.
What a great song! Thanks for diving in. From the reading I’ve done, some of the gear they used for Violator was what they had used in the past, an Emulator III, Moog Minimoog , Oberheim OB-8 synths, ARP 2600 as well as the Roland Space Echo and Manley amplifiers. But you know more about those than I do.
Im glad you liked it daisy this one was literally for you! :) thanks for the great recommendation. AND for my first video to be blocked in Russia! hahha
The fast "haaaaarm" vibrato thingie was wtf to me too when I first heard it. And since I heard Martin Gore doing normal " vibrato in live gigs, 😅 so he wanted to do that. Yes, I agree with you about it doesn't going super" oh yeah " not with vocals. They do guitar riffing and stuff and David just goes OOOH YEAH! 🤣 LOUD
27:56- yes indeed....he had a lot of energy on those tours. Not easy to pull off. Being so close to the stage you can see him breathing hard after running around. Cheers!
I suggest you listen to the Hands And Feet remix of this track. It's pretty much the breakdown you've done except it's really just the extended version of the song.
Excellent video as always. This isn't a request or anything, but I would love to hear Something to Do' by Depeche. There's so much going on in that song.
this is literally: all i ever wanted, all i ever needed! right here in my arms!

Sorry for my bad english but im italian 😂
Dave Gahan was talking, that is why this song is so good. It is effortless to sing and anybody can.
Alan Wilder's attention to detail was second to no one. Enjoyed hearing my fav track of all time deconstructed.
Don't forget Daniel Miller. This is the only song on album, that wasn't mixed by Francois Kevorkian, but by Daniel himself.

The snare and the percussion loop are both samples from the Steve Silk Hurley Deep House Mix of Ten City track That's The Way Love Is

That OA track is just amazing
Those are all Emu Emax samples. They can be found on the Emu Emax disks.
Hello can you explain?
The arpeggiated Bass was done on an Arp2600
I suggest you listen to the Hands And Feet remix of this track. It's pretty much the breakdown you've done except it's really just the extended version of the song.
i'll keep my eye out for the session! :)
The name of what you can listen to at 9:10 is Alan Wilder's best bassline 🙂
Together Strangelove's one
I think the bass is an ARP 2600

Pavle! thanks for watching. i will see if i can get my hands on it and if i can then prepare for a video dedicated to you!
That's not the snare, though. That's either the ghost note that comes after the backbeat trigger, or it's one of multiple layers.
I'd love to see the stems for Closer by Nine Inch Nails or Can't Get You Out Of My Head.
I don't know exactly what all this is, but it's amazing!!! Can you do a Duran Duran song?
Don't forget Alan Wilder, who took a ballad and turned it into a Dance Track!!
And Flood
I'd love to hear some Erasure tracks dissected like this.
cool!!!!)
bassline is Roland System 700
How do you know ?????
how to create such reverb like DM did?

It would be amazing to analyse New Gold Dream 81 82 83 84 by simple minds- so much in there!
Logic Studios, Milan.
Where did you get the track?

It’s not a bass drum, it is an electronic pulse getting triggered
No entendí nada
Love the tracks, dislike the guy
