Mahalo for showing some no-poison options! Beer traps aren’t very practical for any sizable farm though; maybe a small garden. Many farms up here in Hāmākua successfully run Muscovy ducks through their crops and orchards at specific times to decimate the slug populations. Spraying the fence lines also becomes a losing battle because you just end up with super weeds that can live in salty, acidic soil as those things build up from the repeated sprays. I’d recommend finding some border plants that you want along the fence instead that will hold back the grasses. Plant them once and no more buying supplies, mixing sprays and spending time fighting the weeds. 🤙
Gaaaaah we totally forgot about the ducks! There’s so much information and topics that we’re trying to cover and I fully spaced on that one. Maybe we’ll do a mini episode specifically on semi-slugs?! Episode 5 will also be on THE LIVESTOCK so we’ll definitely add it in there. Thanks for the heads up. And yeah totally true on the weeds. The sheep are actually doing a great job keeping the grass permitter at ankle high and the wedilia (trailing daisy) is coming in nicely. Mahalo ‘Āina Bear Farms!
Awesome! Yeah they got a killer project going on. Haven’t filmed with them yet but will be releasing an episode teaser soon 😎 And the soap/vinegar/salt mixture works decent along fence lines, but definitely not as strong as the chemical herbicides. Cheers!
Master Cho came out to Help State of Hawaii deal with coffee borer Beatles using JADAM non-poison technique. Works with all pest and even a way to deal with weeds. Coupla guys in Kona teaching it now starting to get some popularity 🤷. I'm sold 🤷🤙
Love this content! Great natural solutions to the pests. Any particular brand of beer the slugs seem to prefer? I am going to encourage my wife to watch this as we will have (and have been dealing with) the same challenges you 2 have. Up about 1500’ elevation in Puna🤙
Hey TJ, so actually the Sluggo brand bait works best for slugs and snails. The beer trick was just for fun LOL. And best to bait in the evenings where slugs were seen previously. And best not to get the bait wet for a day at least. Yew!
Mahalo for the earth friendly weed control option. Is there an update to see the outcome? I’d like to see what it looks like, before I attempt this. I subscribed and I’m looking forward to the next uploads!
Yes yes we are working on it! I think we are going to start focusing more on shorter DIY videos so that we can keep with the weekly posts. Thanks for the boost of motivation :)
So sorry! We hit a major deadline for a home remodel so we had to focus on that lately.. on the bright side our show got picked up by a local network :) I will be uploading again soon I promise!
I know sorry, each full episode will be about 15-25 minutes long, but we will be posting mini episodes each week after that will be more tutorial-types and much shorter 😁
