On this episode Shawn visits his cousin Kawika Lewis at 'Āina University, a family built farm where they teach kids, groups and other organizations how to reconnect with the land (and themselves) by doing hands on learning activities on 'āina. Kawika goes over some of the tasks and tools he uses while the two catch up and tackle a few chores around the farm.

      Aww thank you and thanks for tuning in! As for the property, I actually found it on Zillow. Found a super overgrown lot that was on the market for 283 days. I saw the potential and pitched it to my wife. Then during the pandemic we pulled the trigger 😬 We both work in TV production and my wife now owns a clothing company, Coconut Avenue. I also own a surf school. And no real farming experience but I grew up on a chick and cattle ranch. I also did landscaping and carpentry for a long time before the TV production world. And lastly, check out one of our latest episodes, "We're Back!" It's a recent update of the farm and our progress. Posting more soon. Mahalo, happy holidays!

    So did the ulu orchard survive? Wasnt sure if i seen it on the land. No judgment if it didnt. Nice house! We're trying to build one similar on Kauai and are just entering the permit process.

      Yup the ulu's are still going! We did lose about 6 keiki's from wild pigs, but I dug them up and put them in pots. They're fully rehabilitated and ready to go back in the ground. The acre plot is a bit overgrown at the moment but I feel like the trees like a little bit of shade LOL. Good luck with everything, I know the permit process can be a drag. Aloha man!

    Could you use this same method to tighten the line wires? Instead of terminating a wire at the last post you wrap it around and then back past two or three posts and terminate there. Then twist them the same way you show here.

      Hmm I don't see why not.. I've never tried that before so I couldn't tell ya, but I do know if your h-brace wire gets loose you can undo the "key" and re-tighten as needed, if needed.

      I'm not sure on the logistics but my neighbor and his wife are from Canada and have been living in Hawaii for the last 10 years on a lychee orchard. It is very possible. Thanks for tuning in, aloha!

      Yeah that's what I thought cuz that's how it's done here in Hawaii, but I've watched a ton of h-brace tutorial videos on UA-cam and there seemed to be a lot of extra tools and unnecessary apparatus being used. But, everyone has their own way of doing things and I felt the need to share this version. Thanks for tuning in 🤙🏽🤙🏽
