"Hate?" is one of the best "F*** Off" song I have heard in a long time. Saiki, their lead vocalist, not Miku their main lyricist, wrote the lyrics. She stated that she was pissed off at all the men who cheated on their spouses during the pandemic (including the husband of one of her good friends). So she vented! You need to pull up their lyrics to the song. They're brutal but funny. The reason there are so many pyrotechnics and the huge stage is that it was at their 10th Anniversary Tour finale in Yokohama last November. These incredibly talented, humble, and kind young women who adore their fans (and vice versa) usually play on a stage with a simple Band-Maid ribbon backdrop. They have played some stages with all the pyrotechnics, but most of their concerts are not like that. They are truly one of the best bands you'll ever see. I have been to two of their concerts and felt that the money and time I spent was WELL worth it. Another great Band-Maid song to react to is "Moratorium". The offical live video from their Zepp Tokyo Arena show is a good one to pull up and react to. "Moratorium" is one of the most liked songs from the band.

There are two things why they are NOT most popular band in this planet or Top 3 band..a) they are NOT from Western World and b) they are women. That’s sad. They have it all..Passion Work Heart Talent. Been working in rockbusiness almost 30 years, seen few thousand gigs and seen all the major ones many times AND never seen better band than they are. Ummm... I haven't been to many concerts but any band (Eastern or Western) that are in an arena type setting will have a massive show -- lights, etc... So, it's not really unique in my opinion. When Band-Maid goes on tour abroad, the full show does not travel with them as they perform in smaller venues. I'm sure when they command arena/stadium shows in the future, it'll be a full production.

A bit weird reaction. Strange comments. Did you think Miku was some ones daughter? (5:50) Because she has maid outfit? The band name is BAND-MAID for some reason. Think about it. BTW - Miku is founder of the band. And - what is "over the top"? Small comments now and then that are kind of sarcastic, without any obvious reason at all.

3:30 - BAND-MAID actually has no problem performing in smaller venues. This November 2023 performance at Yokohama Arena is an exception because it was celebrating their 10-year anniversary. Throughout their tours, they've happily performed at smaller venues like House of Blues, Crescent Ballroom, and Brighton Music Hall. Even with their phenomenal growth, they have no problem casually performing at music festivals (e.g. Lollapalooza 2023) or performing as an opening/supporting act for rock titans such as Slipknot, Incubus, and Guns N' Roses.

Be sure to watch it with the closed captions turned on. 😁😁😁 If you want something a lot slower and beautiful watch ABOUT US, a love song to the fans that was an online performance during the pandemic lockdown. It's a whole different side of the band that may impress you. Yes, they do a lot of hard rock, but they cover a lot of other styles in their music. The other, rhythm, guitarist is Miku who actually formed the band. She was going to be the singer but felt her voice wasn't right for the music so they recruited Saiki, lead voice, from the same management company. Miku also learned how to play guitar later and is now a wicked rhythm player. There are also some great acoustic sets out there and the last song they released, called BESTIE, was in collaboration with Incubus and is very mellow also.

"Hate?" was song 27 of a setlist 33 songs long. This is the biggest show Band-Maid had ever played. It was the Tour final of their tenth anniversary tour, they had been prepping and planning all year, and they pulled out all the stops for this 3-1/2 hour long concert. This show was a stretch goal for them, but Band-Maid always aims high, and they rarely miss.
I saw them twice last May: in Detroit and in Columbus, Ohio. In Detroit they played a small club for an audience of maybe 900 people, playing on a small stage with no room for a drum riser, but they played a great show with just the club lighting and their Band-Maid logo drop was dragging the floor even as they hoisted it as high as they could. When Band-Maid saw that the club had a disco ball, they included it in one of their "breaks" and had fun with it. They put on a great show, they're amazing musicians with a huge catalog of well written songs, and they have a great sense of humor.

No editing involved here. There's nothing here that you don't see with big name acts out of the west regarding the light shows and what not so it's hardly unique to Japan. This is actually tame compared to many big acts I've seen from America and Europe.

  • @agdtec

This show was their biggest show ever many of the videos you might find are in maybe 300 person venues maybe $700 but definitely not on this scale I saw them live here in Chicago at the house of blues and it was a very small venue with no bells and whistles just them performing on stage. But when you reach 10 years maybe you want to spruce things up a bit and play in those arenas that are usually marked for out of country superstars or the Japanese pop who are much more popular in Japan then hard rock and metal bands are.

Not a negative reply . Many need to understand the west needs to catch up to east . This is not over the top .
When a few tiny women can roll up most 200 pounders in the west some thought needs to be given to the mediocrity of music ( not all ) in western countries . This pertains to all genres .

There are captions in English on just about every MV on their YT channel. Although I do recommend that people just watch and listen to Band-Maid MV's as a whole and to try it with the lyrics the 2nd time. Welcome Princes and Princesses to the 5 Band-Maid members are:
SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. The youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock front women... or front men!
MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. She couldn’t play when she formed the band and was tutored by Kanami.
KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more!
AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
There all in their early 30s now

Hey, I agree with you 100% on the "negative" comment about the constant flashing from one thing to the next with whoever keeps doing Band Maid videos. Let the band be the act and not the psycho editor. Which is actually not as bad in the live videos. The studio versions are massively annoying. All of which speaks to an added reason why the only way to watch this band is LIVE. Everything live. This is true, in fact, with every Japanese band. The producers all seem to do great jobs with live videos in Japan.

Re the singer "Saiki" does she play an instrument, hmm no, not that anyone knew of, but, well, to everyone's amazement and surprise at this concert for the first time ever in front of 12,000 or more fans and live streamed world wide via the internet, she walked up the rampart to the stage after a brief mid concert acoustic set with the lead guitarist "Kanami" Joked with the audience and then sat down in front of a grand piano that had been wheeled on only moments before to sing and play solo to a hushed crowd and she nailed it. Takes a lot of kahunas to do that live since she'd never done it, ever! before that night.

Dramatic stage lighting is expected. The rapid jump cuts in POV is a sore point for some, me included. I understand the effect that technique produces, just wish it wasn't quite so abrupt. The lyrics of this song, written by lead singer Saiki, is very straightforward. But most of their song's lyrics are written by 2nd vocalist Miku. She is anything but simple.
