I have a bunch of sticks laying around in the backyard now they're different sizes but I'm going to try this.
When I saw the thumbnail to the video I thought it was a neat idea, but time consuming to attach all the skinny trees to the slats. But when I opened the video and he mentioned the trees are not affixed to the horizontal rails but basically just woven in, I thought that was a great idea! Fast, easy. And the one that is screwed in helps give the fence more structural strength.
Love Paul's problem solving with natural materials...excellent video :)
This is amazing!!!
Thanks so much for this and your entire channel. I farm the old fashioned way and don't wanna have to go pay for fencing when I live in the woods with unlimited resources. Definitely fencing with this next year.
hello did you build your fence with this composition? pictures? how many feet high and length?..sturdy enough for snow drifts??
Thank you for this instruction. I am doing this currently up North. 🐾🦌🐾
Thanks for sharing! Now, I know what to do with all the bamboo my neighbor planted years ago that is now claiming my land. 🙃
LOL! Awesome!
I like the fence. Good use of resources available.
Absolutely!
Excellent.
I use bamboo and 30# clear mono fishing line always wins
From ground up:
First three with 6” spacing
Next four 12” spacing
Great love it.
Scrolling for fence ideas & this came up! Awesome idea.
Glad you liked it!
I LOVE the gate!!
thank u for the great idea with the rocks holding the fence. I have the same problem, and this gave me an idea. Never saw it before.
It looks pretty good doesn't it?
Really like that! :) Thank you!
Thanks, Patriot Nurse!
Me too! Thank you!
This is what i was looking for😍 i love it..
Nice fence, if you live in a fire danger area, I do not recommend putting one of these up against any structures.
Love this! Someone in another comment suggested ivy which would look amazing, but I wonder how climbing vine foods like grapes, raspberries, etc. would do growing on it. It seems that the poles being loose like they are would allow enough sun and airflow for some of those types of vining plants to do very well and if deer get to nibble them back a bit on one side of the fence while they are protected on the other side of the fence it would be a win/ win situation. Fencing off an area, providing food for humans, and acting as a food source to keep animals you hope to hunt nearby.
love the natural look and very cost effective idea...♡♡♡...love the gate
Right?! That gate shows some amazing craftsmanship.
I love it
wow
super interesting!!
I'm making a wattle fence .. About 6 feet high ... each side will be about 100 ft long ... Hopefully it'll be sturdy enough so my dogs can't escape lol...
Try 100 feet high
I use this too, Arkansas Ozarks...lol!
great idea thanks
We do like to see something innovative that allows you to not spend money for once!
That looks like great fuel for the RMH - and they will pay you to take it too! Talk about saving money on the heating bill :)
I done this for years and make unsightly neighbors dissapeare... small birds love em.
I enjoyed the video very much. I may give that a try where i am at in West Virginia. On our off grid property the deer are a major problem with gardens. I think this might really help. I think i will start small scale and if that works expand. Have a great day.
If you do try it, write back and let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching.
did you build your fence?
I'm trying to build a wattle fence, but am having trouble driving the stakes into the ground. What did you use to drive your stakes in?
You could probably also make rock walls. Or will the deer jump over that?
Great video thanks. You could use plastic bottle cordage and heat, instead of the screws and bring your cost down to essential your time plus a heat source (heat gun, torch, boiling water, fresnel lens, etc.). Once your shrink up that joint its the most secure it can get.
Cheap and deer willnot pass. Also I need a fence in the garden in the spring I will take an example.
Great video, I wondered about those piles of wood when we were out on the trails in the Black Hills Forest.
Wow an audience with Paul Wheaton. How much did that set you back?
He was very kind to let us come tour the place.
Wow, he sent me a price list at one time giving me a dollar figure per hour for tours, ect. Hmmm?

Thanks weetree. :)
A wonderful idea and so cheap compared to buying fencing! Where is this land?
He is in Montana.
Dirtpatcheaven thank you so much for a quick reply! Have a wonderful day everyone in your family.
I think near Missoula.
Very good idea! I really like that. I'd take a chainsaw to the top to clean up the look a bit, but otherwise that is a excellent idea.
That would be nice.:)
How long before it rots out?
Pretty quickly. Two or three years if you get any kind of rain or snow.
Great fence, will not keep pigs in for even 5 mins. Pigs would trash that just for fun in a heart beat.
Where is Jesse grimes!?!?
It depends. The best way to keep up with him is on his Patreon account.
Three years later and NOW you tell me you're afraid of aardvarks? I guess it's true, nobody likes adventurous aardvarks........sigh.......
LOL!
That's super cheap.
You can't beat it!
Very cool idea! My goats would find a way out though. Their particularly mischievous... even by goat standards. >.>
LOL!
When I was little, our pygmy goats made it out 6 ft chain link fence, broke INTO (okay, walked through the open front door) the neigbour's house, and pooped on their hideous pink carpet. Goats are geniuses when it comes to escape.
The Last Grownup in the Woods If a goat is out, it wants to be in and vise-versa. They always want exactly opposite of what's good, right, expected or wanted. God, I love goats.
So true! :D When my goats first started getting out, I would hear them scratching at the back door trying to get in the house.
Goats are incredible escape artists.
