Damon's open class YZ490 was not nearly the caliber bike the water cooled Honda's were, (or Kawasaki either), and was actually based on the WR woods bike, but Damon did not mind. It was a great and recent interview on "The Whiskey Throttle Show". He was awesome on the track, and had the best hair in the sport. :) He is a good man today. But it is also true that more great free thinking people have come from this sport than any other sport per capita,----IMO, (which is usually fact, or damn close to it.).

Only one rider to remember: JMB.

Not true at all, but I will never forget him. I wish he would have stayed in the USA and became a citizen. Sharp and super talented man, with a bit of a persecution complex, and he let the complex get the better of him, and his best future was here. That is sad to me. The world missed a lot of greatness that he could have shown is possible, because he fell victim to that destructive propaganda. He did not understand that if he did nothing wrong, he was free, and would be moral, to tell his detractors to "piss off" with objective reasoning. I wish him the best possible in what ever he is doing today. Doug in Michigan

JMB was seen as hyper sensitive and arrogant at the same time. Disliked by most of the people in the media in France and some riders too, even nowadays....Never really succeeded in motoGP with only one win (road race), never rode Dakar or Enduropale if I m not mistaken. Top rider but weird dude.

I saw him as his own man. All the guys I rode and raced with in Michigan respected the heck out of him. He was sensitive I guess, but he was doing nothing wrong, was great at what he did, and should have stayed in the USA IMO. A great individual is a weird dude too. Ask any group of people. I think it was just a few people here, starting with the guys he was beating. RJ to this days says, "And here comes this guy from Europe taking what is rightfully ours." (Whiskey throttle show). It is rightfully belongs to anybody who won. Top rider? He may be the most talent human to ever ride a MX bike. Weird or not, that is individual greatness, and I admire it.
