Joey, you're doing an awesome thing by bringing us these light novel authors. It's really nice to know that they're relatable to. Instead of just being these mysterious figures, who can pump out hits. It's feels nice to know that they try hard and fail just like we do. Idk if this sounds weird but, thanks a lot man, keep it up.

Leon Alex it kinda makes sense though, he isn't that famous so people aren't gonna stalk him down. Then there's the creator of konosuba, and his anime was one of the best anime of its season, meaning popularity, meaning larger group of people, meaning more potential stalkers. also it's probably about modesty and Sow probably doesnt care given his easy going nature

came here after reading 3 free chapters, its not comedy so its probably not as funny as the author.. its more about the situation and drama around the ex-soldier and the people around him and the robot girl who come to work for him... but damn it was interesting, enjoyable, pretty heartwarming... in these time where there are a lot of fantasy, harem , isekai genre in light novel, something different like this is really nice to read... really considering to buy if i have some money at the end of the month....

It's more because bookwalker gets in touch with these authors for him. It's very unlikely he himself reached out to them. However a company selling the author's books would more likely be the source of these contacts and thus interviews.

    • @MoSenpai
      @MoSenpai 7 років тому +17

*Everyone* wins this way. It's actually quite damning how Joey figured out this sort of system instead of heavily relying on Patreon or ad revenue.

I try to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but it's almost physically impossible to write 17 titles in 9 months. He either is exaggerating his numbers or he loosely considered the time he started writing. 17 books in 9 months means.
Average LN length is 50000 words.
    17 LN's is 850000 words.
    9 months is 270 days.
    850000/270 = ~3150
It means he had been writing 3150 words a day. Zero rest days... never mind the editing part, which arguably takes more time than writing.
To put things into perspective, Stephen King writes 1000 words a day and industry professionals call that "insane". While I am certain this guy's stories are no where as nuanced as King's, no one writes more than 3000 words a day without losing their minds.
I am calling BS on either his definition of "I wrote them in 9 months" or he is just making up numbers.
If anyone can prove me wrong, I all ears.

Just from the synopsis alone Sow Sensei gave, I really need to read this series. It's a fresh new light novel idea that's not based on RPG reincarnation another world stuff or highschool romance.
Maybe this will be a Josei titled one because of the chill atmosphere or a Seinen one I don't know.
But Joey if you ever see this comment, do you think it is possible for an American or Western foreigner to make their own light novel series that's not made in Japan?
I can't wait to check this series out.

Thank you so much for reminding me of this LN, Joey, because if it wasn't because of this vid, I probably wouldn't remember this particular LN that I've seen its' picture from. And don't worry SOW-sensei, with how I like Sven's character design already, making her brutal, even if toned down, is even better for me.
Now if only I could buy that book myself...
Oh, why do I have a thing for cute girls doing psycho things...

Joey, your merch shop webpage says:
"Maker Shop is discontinuing operation of our creator merch shop and will no longer be facilitating production or distribution of merchandise as of April 19, 2017.
    Thank you, Maker Studios Team"
Is there any other link to buy your merch?

Very interesting interview! Sow-sensei was really dynamic and I loved learning a little bit about the light novel contests. I didn't know it could take up to one year to know if you won or not!
Also, I've never heard of this light novel, the plot seems really unique and I'm actually going to check it out right now!
Thanks Joey! and Thanks Sow-sensei for your time!

How does a native English speaker hardsub "I really was surrounded into a corner".
The expression is "paint yourself into a corner", isn't? From what i could tell from the context, I don't know, English is my third language so I'm struggling here.

And SOLD! For full price, I might mention, although, I do appreciate the generous offer thanks to your collaboration. Pretty excited to not have to wait for a book to ship for once!
I was already intrigued by the synopsis and premise presented by most places, but that extra tidbit Bookwalker gives is especially interesting and helps to build the world and make it all feel more grounded with just a few extra words!
As many have already said, thank you, as well as SOW and BW for producing this. Otherwise my friend wouldn't have known to tell me about it and I may not have gotten to know this story for a long, long time.

I'm currently in a similar situation, except I'm a comic book/manga artist/writer. Despite all my efforts, I couldn't find a job in the field of software development. I'm currently practicing on a barely working almost 10yo PC and the cheapest graphics tablet I could get, however recently I got good enough to finally sit down and start working on a oneshot, and after I got a little bit of experience out from it, I'm jumping right into working on my main stuff, which I was writing for years (to be fair, it was just recently that I figured out what it should be really about and how I should materialize it, early character concepts were cringeworthy).
This interview inspired me a lot, going back to practice some drawing.

WOW, I wasn't expecting much since I didn't know anything about that author/LN, but since I'm quite open and enyoed the other interviews I gave it a try and it was a bast. Really open and overall nice guy, even talking about including special traits reflectiong the writers hobbies in side characters etc. I really like stories with inhuman/robotic characters that slowly learn from humans and turn human+I love strong characters and brutal stuff. I will probably give it a try!

Joey, I am interested in taking a look at a few of these series, however I am concerned about the quality of the translation. In my experience, there is always a problem with the language barrier that literal translations just can't overcome, such as humor that would only make sense if the joke were told in a particular language. Do you think that this will be a problem with this series? Sow-sensei has piqued my interest.
Also, as an aspiring author myself, I can appreciate both Sow-sensei's dedication and lack of money and your lack of time and concentration. I have created several short stories and attempted larger works in the past, but have never managed to get past the first hundred pages. I always lose interest in the current stories and get a new idea. What I'm trying to say is that if you really enjoy writing, you have my full support behind you, little as that my mean.

His interpretation of his MC sound a lot like Violet from Violet Evergarden; from a soldier who spreads death in the battlefield to an Auto Memory Doll which connects people through letters. I also like the contrast and parallels on both. I can't wait to read this LN.
