I know, I could've made a full video with more thoughts but I really just didn't want to. Here's my quick review of "OK Orchestra" by the trio of brothers known as AJR. Sigh.

This is probably the last time I'm reviewing an AJR album on the channel. Y'all wanted this so badly though, hope you enjoy the resurrection episode of WRECK IT REVIEWS!

I understand how AJR can be obnoxious to some people, and I respect it.

I listened out of morbid curiosity. All I can say is that it's an AJR album. Fans will like it, critics will not like it, and the world's gonna keep turning.
This is definitely one of the AJR albums of all time.
Of all the AJR albums that they've released, It's definitely one of them!

This album is indeed a release of many of their songs.
Truthfully, and with no hostility or negative energy to anyone who AJRs music doesn’t strike their ear right, the reasons why fans of them such as myself jam to them is just about every reason you lot *can’t stand* their sound. I mean it. Other than the take of their lyrics being simple, perhaps, every reason you all give that you hate their music is every reason we love their music. Their music is for certain ears only, and if you don’t listen to them, which I reiterate, is completely okay, you don’t “have” those ears in the first place. That’s what I’ve observed.
Why are you saying it like it’s objectively good, and it’s okay to dislike it? Most of the music is not good, but it’s okay to like it.

I actually think the sock metaphor was really clever. I reflected on my own life and thought “are my socks really living a more interesting life than I am?” Any song that can make you reflect on your own life is a good song imo

I don't even know who AJR is. But i know you hate them so i watched this
Glad to see you review this even though I know you are not a fan of AJR. I agree with your opinions on it. Maybe it’s just me being an older fan, but I feel like the more acoustic sounds they have with their very first EP and album is more authentic than the recent stuff. I also find that whatever redeeming qualities they have in each song, it is drowned out by whatever production is put on it or the songwriting is gimmicky.
As an AJR fan, I really like this album.

IMO, neotheater is my favorite album ever with some of the best songs I’ve ever heard. But OK orchestra still has some solid bangers. And Ordinaryish people is easily my favorite in the album

My personal opinion on AJR is that they make good music, but it requires- acclimation...? Like, it's often discussed that enjoyment of music stems from fulfillment of expectation in the sound. That isn't to say that AJR is totally groundbreaking and unlistenable to someone completely fresh, as they draw inspiration from a variety of sources, but growing to know what to expect as far as to those "AJR-isms" leads to further enjoyment of their music. I remember, when I first their music through 100 Bad Days, I felt that there was a nugget of a good song covered up by layers of useless sampling and vocal modification, but now that I've grown acclimated to their sound, I can really enjoy it and actually derive particular enjoyment *from* those samples and modifications. That's actually something you hear a lot, and I see it in these comments a lot- people who say that they hated the songs at first, but more listens made them tolerable, or even enjoyable. Anyhow, thanks for reading my dumb opinion, I'm interested to hear what other people have to say.

Not gonna lie Jon, I died laughing at this intro more than once. You explaining the reasons you're reviewing the album cracked me up because I can totally see people giving you crap for reviewing an album you don't like, even though those same people asked you for your opinion on it in the first place. It's a never ending cycle on the internet it seems.
The moment I heard the Overture of this... "Album," I thought that this HAD to be a Joke Album. As to who the joke is on...
I don’t know how my 19-20 year old friends actually listen to AJR. Their songwriting process is to find random instruments and sounds, play them at random, mash them together, and get a 6 year old to help write the lyrics.
Literally, I was called a heathen when I told a group of people I know I didn’t like ajr, they acted like it was the only thing that brought them happiness

i get over exaggerating for laughs but-
I mean i would say the same about rap, its just not good these days, old school rap was much better and you could actually understand the rapper. Im not hating about this comment, i dont have allodoxaphobia, i like their music because i somewhat relate. i like the fast moving pace in some of them and the tough topics but uplifting beats in them.
This is just an option though
I highly recommend the Astronomers! They're like AJR but their sound is a bit more traditionally pop-y and I think their lyrics are a bit better in some cases.
They reacted to OK orchestra and really liked it. Kind of went full circle 😂
Personally, I love air so much. There songs for me are so interesting and relatable.

I mean to be fair I see how their songs can be relatable to a younger audience, but I mean calling them interesting? Not knocking on the quality but there are a lot of pop rock artists like them-

I personally love ajr and their albums, I can admit some songs like bang are not that great because they are way too overplayed. But a lot of thought goes into a lot of these songs. And all they do is experiments with their music. No two songs are alike and I love that. I understand why some wouldn’t.

AJR isn’t that bad but the worst part it goes their fans think that they are “experimental” when they literally do nothing more than orchestral dubstep/trap music
@@gezi0752 well they do experiment to some extent. Like the overtures and taking random sounds and pitching them in different ways. Not saying they’re the only band who does that but they still do try a lot of new things, and none of their songs really feel the same at all

AJR are the musical equivalent of the KFC famous bowl. A bunch of ideas and elements just lumped and piled up together to make a gelatinous mess.

Respect the opinion man! Not for everyone and that’s okay. I love their music just bc I’ve grown up watching them grow up and I’ve just always held their music close to me bc of how relatable it was. I agree it’s their worst album, but as a fan, I can say I enjoyed it.

I *highly* doubt that man. The single was radio filler generic and IMO was not impressive at all, and while the album might be solid, are we really expecting a 'spotty in the later years' band to turn out one of the best albums of the year? I'll eat my words if it happens but I don't see it happening at all
@@artvjon Personally it's fun driving music for me. Good with the windows down. And the Offspring has always had this generic radio... thing. I don't think it'll be better than whatever Royal Blood has concocted, but I just think new Offspring in the *Spring* is gonna be a breathe of fresh air. Not that I expect to be impressed tho.

not gonna lie i like AJR, but I respect your opinion. and i can agree on songs like The Trick (with that voice) and My Play. they aren’t relatable to me. I enjoy them for the sounds though not the lyrics. OK Orchestra is a 7/10 for me :)
i guess this was their best album to date. by best, i mean that instead of making me appalled 90% of the time, i'm just bored for most of the album

I listened to this album and it sucks. To me it’s just a more refined version of their previous albums. Same shit different album. I can’t be pissed at it because I had no expectations to begin with

AJR makes music for people who think putting on striped unmatching socks is “quirky”
I notice that many soccer moms and 19-20 year olds (aka people around my age) love AJR. They are the new Maroon 5.
I can jam to some AJR but you bring up some valid points. I personally don’t usually enjoy the lyrics; every once in a while they have some good lines but there’s something I’d change about every song. Way Less Sad had some great moments but they really killed the song with the whole counting sheep bit and the autotune effect. The Overture was also very disappointing. The Click had a much better Overture. I think they would really benefit from someone to help refine their lyrics and fill out their sound to prevent the empty noise in songs like Bang. That’s just my opinion though.

What draws me to their music is the catchy beat. It's something that I can bop my head to. I don't really focus much on the lyrics and I agree with critics that they can become somewhat meaningless. But then again I am in their age group so maybe it's just me.

Christmas in June was definitely the most ok song on the album, so I felt validated in liking it when you said you did too. The rest were, of course, pretty awful. The Trick would’ve been a good song without the horrible vocal effects and the weird post-chorus Disney-esque sounds. But I actually thought the background instrumentals and the narrative in the song were not bad.
I feel like most people's thoughts on The Trick is the same, the vocals were probably the worst out of any AJR song but the instrumentals were really good imo

I do not understand how people can listen to this and like it. What is so appealing about this.
My guess is the instrumental as it seems they care about production more than lyricism or checking if the lyrics is good or something.
I like all the different sounds and scale of the music I think it sounds pretty cool as well as the hooks being nice and catchy, to me at least and relatable Albeit not very well written lyrics

I've watched a bunch of reviews for their last 3 albums for the rants, and yet I don't think I've ever heard an AJR song. That might be because they've never made it in the UK and I don't care to look them up, or they have and are just that forgettable...
Yeah, I agree please stop hurting yourself with AJR, at this point they're never gonna be good, and its better to just ignore them.

As a ajr fan I actually agree with you on some of their songs like joe and bang. After listening to them a few times I quickly got bored with them.

This album gets a 43/100 from me, as most of it is forgettable, and some of it it unlistenable, but there are a lot of bright spots and some songs I genuinely enjoy, like Bummerland and My Play. Other than that, though, this album is pretty bad.
I'm an AJR (I guess fan but more like a passive listener?) and have been a fan of you for a while, so I love to hear your takes on their music and I respect them. Personally, I was incredibly underwhelmed with this album. I kept trying to force myself to like all of it but I just couldn't. 3 o'clock things, way less sad and Christmas in June are the only saving graces from the album for me. I agree they keep getting a little too crazy with the "AJRisms," more does not equal better! And a lot of the times their songs are talking about the same topic over and over and it gets boring. Not to mention the incredibly cringey lyrics thrown into the mix.
I like this album quite a lot but I’m already a big AJR fan to begin with so of course I do. This album honestly feels way tamer musically compared to the other 2 with the songs just generally feeling less big and loud and also a fairer amount of acoustic sounds but I guess it still had to many AJRisms to appeal to anyone who already hates them. I honestly prefer neotheater but I think this is still a strong release, 4/5 maybe a light 4.5/5. I did enjoy your livestream to this album a lot regardless.

What I’m about to say is probably gonna piss off about 80% of everyone watching. The click was a pretty good album with some bangers like come hang out and sober up and overall I’d give it a 6/10. Neotheater is literally everything I’ve ever wanted from an album and has some of the greatest instrumentals and songs I’ve ever heard. 9.5/10, easily. OK orchestra was a little better than just OK, but still was just decent. But Ordinaryish people was really good. Ok, hot take over

Just heard “Christmas in June” again after watching this and I agree that’s the most tolerable song on the album. The melody is kinda nice I guess. Other than that, yeah.. this record is a big 👎 for me. Not interested in listening to their past works either (especially if they’re worse than this one lol).

Anyone else notice the weird coincidence between this album, ok orchestra, and Weezer's latest album ok human, which features an orchestra? Also AJR and Rivers Cuomo made a song together a little while back, I think it was called sober but I'm not entirely sure. But yeah, kinda cool little coincidence there.

If someone would make an ajr parody song people would say this is better than the original.
I liked The Click, and I'd still give it a 8/10. Neotheater had some great moments but was pretty bad otherwise, 4/10 for me. Ok Orchestra only had two songs I liked- Bang! and Way Less Sad, the rest was terrible. 2/10. I'm having the same relationship that I had with Imagine Dragons- their first two albums are 9/10 and 8/10 and then Evolve and Origins were 5/10 and 3/10 for me. I guess I can't call myself a fan of either artist anymore.

This is the first AJR album I listened to and I found it boring, all the tracks faded into each other I don't remember how most of the songs went. I struggled to finished it it's that boring.

I really couldn’t understand how someone could hear anything they’ve made and enjoy it. The production is actually gag worthy and the lyrics are the crumbs and boogers at the bottom of a Disney XD writers room. The people claiming to enjoy this will be very upset with themselves in the future.
I love that they keep making music, even if it's awful. that said it is terrible more often than not lol

I honestly thought that AJR was going to be the reincarnation of the style of music fun. did (half-alive is more deserving of that title now), when they started. Im not of that opinion anymore, but I will say that sometimes, some songs remind me of fun and that alone draws me in, but others just DONT HAVE ANYTHING to draw me back in for repeated listens

I do consider this to be their "best" album to date. But the problem is at their "best," they're pretty much forgettable.
