You literally answered ALL the questions I had about this chronograph. Thanks!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the overview. I'm on my way out the door now to pick one up.
great video!! sold!
I like that chronograph. I need to get myself one of them.
thanks Dustin... really like those chrony's…… I need to join an outdoor range !!
After reading all the reviews, I just ordered one from Amazon. It will be here tomorrow the 15th. Thanks for the review.
You’re welcome! I actually have two of these and they’re great!
Great video.Just used it for the first time yesterday. I'm new to reloading and I will say this is a must have for feedback on different powders and powder charges
I was actually using it again this morning. It’s a great chronograph! Thanks for watching!
Ayyyyy! You got through a whole 5 shot cylinder with no droopy loading lever! 😃
Great vid. I bought the exact same one and it came in last week. Going to use it for reloading.
I subbed your channel, and you have a good one, so keep up the good work.
It’s really a nice chronograph! Thanks for watching!
Great video and very informative
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for very good video.
Thanks for watching!
I've actually been looking at this same chronograph for a couple days. Haven't decided whether or not I really NEED one that bad, but this one certainly seems worth the low price.
It’s been fantastic! Thanks for watching!
Dang, that's what I call getting down to business. Who cares if the metal rods are not solid steel, but instead,...... seriously this is a where the rubber hits the road. Thank you. I did get one!
I think your filming trick with the mirror is genius ! focus on the subject matter, yet show the speaker!
Great video. I have the Competition Electronics and extras cost extra. I going to get one of premium kits as I shoot in a shaded area. I will also be using them both set at a known distance apart to get BC's of different bullets.
Thanks for watching!
What are the distances from the shooter to the Chronograph?
How well does it work for BB's .177 and slugs?
I'm thinking about getting one of these for my channel.
This is a very dandy Chronograph. It's much better than my 30 year old Shooting Chrony. I may need to go buy one.
I love it!
Good video Dustin. I'm glad to hear it's around $100.00 or less. That puts it in a price range that I could afford.
I think Amazon as this basic version for about $75 or so.
Thanks.
I received one of these this week. The app has changed from your version. Although the chrono is displaying the FPS data, connection to the smartphone is a problem. I found I had to trim some off the plug to get a good seat into my phone, but then it errors often. Also, what happened to the Bluetooth connection? I've had no connection, though the APP suggests it can connect. Historical bullet data is gone as well.
Dustin, did you ever experience any issues with black powder smoke keeping the bullet for registering? How far out were you shooting? Thanks for the review!
The first time I used it, I had a few errors that may have been caused by smoke, but I moved the chronograph a little farther away and that seemed to solve the problem. I set it about 15-20 feet away.
The fact I blew my chronograph up last Friday has nothing to do with the fact I got one of these last Saturday...
Haha same thing happened to me
Excellent. I hand load for hunting up here in Alaska.
I like that it does not have a sleep function as I often switch rifles to keep the barrels cool.
I don't like that you can accidently turn it on and drain battery when putting it away.
Muzzle blast can affect the chronograph, so it should be >=15 feet from the muzzle.
An inexpensive laser bore sighter helps determine exactly where the rifle is pointing in setup. Level bubble should be used in setup. Accuracy is +/- 0.03% so if every shot is exactly 3,000 fps, reading will vary ~2991 to 3009 fps.
The tripod that comes with it is very flimsy, so I agree with you the deluxe version is a waste of money.
Buy a solid used tripod at a pawn shop, good will, etc.
I have to directly read from the chronograph as I could not get the software to work with an android phone.
This is a great review and video. Thank you. Will you be doing the 3 cartridge comparison between smokeless powder, Pyrodex, and black powder soon?
I’m not sure how soon I’ll get to that one, but it’s coming. One of my coworkers needed some time off this month and I’m covering for him, so I’m traveling more than usual. It may be a few weeks before I can get to the Lee Kay Center, where I can do the best job on it.
I have an android phone and before it would work you have to allow permissions for all the ones listed below it. Click on your phone settings and under settings click on apps and notifications click on the Chronograph app , then click on permissions, allow the camera location microphone and storage to all be allowed and now it will work.
Which sensor is the front and which is the rear? Err2 Err3
The app for iPhone and iPad doesn’t work for me I just write down the velocity’s my phone and pad with os 16.2 won’t communicate with each other even with my iPad 10.2 with the earphone jack or my phone with the lightning to 33 mm pin attachment
I f you could do a video on how to use the camera and group size funtion on the app. I would greatly appreciate it..as the instructions do not address it
How far away from the fire arm should the chrony be? I plan to develop handloads for 7 mm mag hunting. Thanks.
Usually, about 10 feet is good, but black powder guns need to be farther because of the smoke.
You have a chronograph? 😃😃
Great video, pardner.
Isn’t it appalling that I didn’t use it in those early comparison videos? LOL!
Thanks, Santee!
HAHA!
Hello Dustin, I have a chronograph of this model just like yours. Tell me one thing, does it only work with IPhone phone? My phone has the Android system and I can not get it to work. Can you tell me if it's just with Apple Systems? Thank you, hug.
That’s a good question. I honestly don’t know. I thought it was supposed to work with both, but I’ve only used an iPhone. Best of luck!
Dustin, I purchased this item and I have tried it with plastic pellets with airsoft gun and I can not get any reading. I also tried lead pellets and still nothing. I'm not sure if it's the machine issue or the pellets are too small. Have you tried small pellets with the machine?
I first tested it with a BB gun and it worked.
It needs plenty of light to record. Mine would only record BB's with the LED light attachment on the Premium Kit.
If you replace the steel sunshade rods with bamboo BBQ sticks it will not hurt your chorno when you shoot the rod.
various people have had accidents. After you have set this up, load a laser round and check where it is going to shoot. You need to place a piece of paper or card resting against the back sensor. That way you have where the bullet is going to go. A laser round is a lot cheaper than a chronograph. This is typically important with AR15 or telescopic sights that are 1.5 inches above the barrel bore.
Mine doesn’t work on the indoor range only outdoors do chronographs require a lot of light ?
They do need a good amount of light. I now have the premium version with the lights and it’s great indoors.
Does it works with artificial light, like indoor shooting gallery?
There’s a deluxe version that comes with lights that replace the sun shades for indoor and low-light use.
how does it mount to the tripod?
It has a threaded hole in the bottom of it that fits most tripods.
I can't get the app to work on Android.
You need to go into the App under Settings>Apps>Chronograph>Permissions and turn on Camera, Location, Microphone and Storage. I had the same issue and this made it work.
That's the gun that shot Tom Chaney!
How much is FPS in "normal"?
Thanh Tran Feet per second.
Get the PREMIUM KIT! Trust me!
My firsr chronograph was one of these, I killed it with a .45 acp 😣 got the Chrony brand, be darned if I didnt shoot it with the same. 45acp , same box of ammo 😔
Makes two chronograph kills for my Hi Point .45
Yikes! Sorry to hear that.
Ouch!
So the French could use it too (meters) lol
I wish mine worked.
This thing is a real piece of crap. Got it for xmas gift. Never worked properly. After figuring out ERR2 and ERR3 which I was getting at first and figuring out the app and having to give permissions to the app to use the microphone and audio, I thought I had it working. But, it was saying 25679 fps for a 9mm which was clearly wrong, then 409 fps, also wrong, then 14565 fps. I will never get anything from Caldwell again.
Sorry to hear you had that experience. This one has been great.
