I am averaging over $700 a month on stock footage. It was not easy and it took 4 years for me to build up my library, but if I can do it anyone willing to work at it can do it. Nice to see your trends. Thanks!

What fps would you recommend for people living in PAL countries? I want to start filming stock videos, but wonder whether the frame rate is important for download numbers. I could film in 24/30/60/120 fps, but would then have trouble with some artificial lights in my country. Do you know if a switch from PAL to NTSC would be worth it? And what about Apple ProRes vs DNxHR? Is there a difference in download numbers? In general, I don't want to start filming stock video, that then does not meet the technical needs of most people.
Hi Matt, thanks for your very informative and insightful video! I had a question about your most sold clip, did you need to upload release forms for the branding and logos that appear in the clip? Thanks 🙂
I upload on artgrid too, and they are quite pocky about that. I dont know how he managed to let it go ondine like that. I had to remove logos digitally in a few shots, on their demand before approval
I'll add , too, that city footage, skylines, etc are always changing...like major changes. When Las Vegas added the Sphere, it instantly made all previous stock footage of Las Vegas as 'dated'....fresh stock footage is always better. Los Angeles added a new skyscraper in the mid 2000's and altered the skyline look, making all thousand of stock footage of LA form the past, obsolete IMO.... or perhaps a city ads a new monorail system or something. I day go for the latest changes in the big cities that could give us an edge on selling the footage.
hey matt, thanks for this video. great stuff. can i ask you about clearance of brands and ads seen in the footage? you don't need any? how come? thank you!
Great tips! When it comes to cities, I think there is way too many drone shots, and I would love to see more on the ground shots with great compositions, and not as popular spots, but enough character to define the city
Hi Matt, thanks for the informative video! Just a couple of questions here. What stock sites are the best for vertical videos to sell? And is it necessary to shoot on 4k? Is it possible to sell footage filmed on lower quality (I only have Sony A7 ii at the moment)? Thanks in advance.
Interesting, but a bit short on details. How much do you make per clip? Also, seems that the videos shown would need property release or model release forms unless submitted as editorial content?? Judging from the other comments, there are many other things to deal with??
Very helpful video. Thanks. I downloaded your starter guide too. Love it. Do you think that the Osmo Pocket 3 produces footage of sufficient quality for stock? Please let me know. Thanks.
Cool video, can you please advice on what would be better for stocks footage on your opinion: full frame 4k 10 bit 4:2:0 or aps-c 4k 10 bit 4:2:2? Can't decide between nikon zf and fujifilm x-s20/x-h2s. Thanks
Thx for such an immediate response) awesome. Maybe you can answer one more question. If the camera records only in h.264/265, should I export my graded log footages converted to prores from h.254/265, using premiere pro for example. Is it work like this: converting h264/5 to prores if the camera can't record in prores itself? Thanks
Thanks for sharing this insight on how to add value to the amount of footage we generate per year. I'm going to pay more attention to the opportunities I have while traveling and shooting my videos. BTW, I love the design of your download page and the PDF guide. Thanks, Matt 🙏
It took 4 month waiting for me. They are very long. Also, if you never get accepted it leans your work is not good enough, sorry... be sure to send them your best work, si maybe your showreel, when applying
I would try to film more abstract shots if you can. Look at the times square clip, I purposefully filmed it with a tilt shift lens to make it more abstract. :)
Hey thanks for your tips, I'm a Artgrid underwater stock footage seller, and I fully agree on what you said. Have to take time for vertical footage also :)
Hey Mate, Love your work. Do you know how many downloads you had to equal this end sum ? Love to know the price per $ download i.e is it 50cents or so ? Let me know!
Thanks for this video. I've tried a couple stock footage sites and have sold nothing. But, I think your suggestion of filming unusual angles of the location or subject is a smart idea. Also, I didn't know until now that Artgrid accepted stock footage from new sources. I will definitely start thinking of new ways to capture stock footage. I've already glanced through your guide before watching this video and feel inspired already. Many thanks.
dam how did you get away with those vegas and times square clips? I never used artgrid, but I use blackbox and all my times square pandemic clips got rejected because there were logos in the shot like from store signs and billboards. becuase of that, it made me not want to shoot anymore street footage around the city since it would likely get rejected
Love this. I know in the past you've included the "Getty Images" Model and Property release forms. Do you have a link for Artgrids Release forms? Can't find it anywhere. Thanks in advance dude love your content! 🙏🏼🎥
Hey Matt! Love your content. I tried to put some videos in Adobe Stock, and they blocked the possibility to selling my videos by telling me confused things. From subjectivities like "your video doesn't have too much comercial appeling" to "we don't allow brands appear", this process frustraded me a lot. I know that you are telling about other platform in the video, but I think they have some restrictions too. How did you manage this issues? Thanks!
@@whoismatt I live in a unique place (Spain), which has everything from scenery used as desert in spaghetti westerns, to the Pyrenees (which remind me of my hometown in NW Montana), to caribbean-looking beaches (whether the Balearic Islands or even Galicia). I film short videos about the Spanish civil war and run all around Spain on my Triumph with my drone and Lumix S5MIIX. I had never thought about making stock footage, but I really think that it's a quite unique place for selling footage (castles, roman aqueducts, bunkers, old trenches, large cities, small cities, abandoned cities--Belchite). I should give it a try. There also probably isn't much Madrid-related content out there for when there are important events here. So parlaying upcoming events (say Champions League finals, World Fairs, F1 races, Madrid Open, any World Cup or Olympics) in the runups to those events could get you some significant boost. I do it for the love, but I wouldn't mind doing it for the love AND cash.
Was literally thinking how would this even work with the vast vast vast amount of stock footage there already is out there, this video was just to make a video lol

The Superbowl was in Vegas this year too so there was certainly an increased demand for Vegas footage for promos.

Hi Matt can you share stock footage on multiple providers or do some companies have exclusive rights?
Is Artlist / Artgrid licensing your Vegas Clips commercially?
Thank you! Super informative!
would be cool to see a video on dealing with the tax information related to stock accounts and how to navigate that aspect

but Artgrid only pays out royalties once a year? is that right???
Awesome advices! 🙏 Might be a silly question but can we put the same clips on all those websites? Or do some of them require exclusive content?

how does the release form stuff work in the city like the Las Vegas clip?
Good Point! These clips would be rejected on most other platforms unless marked as "Editorial"

yeah vertical footage seems a good idea. as much as i hate it its the new thing
Hi !
Any tips to join artgrid ? Been refused twice already trying to join with drone footages... Should I use street timelapses to join instead ?
Great tips Matt, thanks for sharing.
Top nice one Matt love your video. Very informal thanks for creating this one.

I’d go with full frame, you probably won’t see a difference between 4:2:0 and 4:2:2

How do you get around the fact that these are recognisable places? some stock footage places wont allow this

i heard it was around 38ct last year. i started on artgrid this summer, already have a few thousand downloads. it looks promising.
Thanks a bunch for the tips Matt!
Stock has been really slow for me over the past year or so. Hopefully, these tips help! Thanks, Matt.

Upload as editorial.
thanks for sharing this!
Do you need to sell stock footage in log or color graded?
Most sites want it graded
And most want Rec709, not creative color grading

Great thanks for your very informative vdo and time however this all clip can be generated by ai in future
hey matt! thanks for this vdieo excited to watch it
as someone who works with missions and doesn't get much income doing this is a great Idea!
Not knowing a lot about AI, how do you think it will impact stock video footage?
Definitely think it will make creating stock footage easier
I thought you couldn’t use , pictures and videos with recognizable names ?
Mr. Matt, thanks for sharing this video with us! Informative, and straight to the point. 👍🏼
PS. Jesus Loves You! 🔥
Isn't Ai going to take over the stock footage market in the near future?
There’s always a new technology. I don’t see it fully replacing real footage
Great info Matt. Thanks again
it was also probably because of the F1 stuff going on in vegas last year and the dome, etc
Oo good thinking!

Nice tips... but with SORA idk how many people will buy stock footages if they are not form a specific event.
Great video, with the people in your Vegas video.. did you have to clear all of these persons with model forms? Hoe does that work?
