For A singaporean, the best part about coming back home from my travels, is the Changi Airport. I went to LAX so many times and even to Dubai airport twice. Still say we got the Best Airport in the world.
My favourite airport. Top tip..some airlines have early check-in and bag drop up to 24 hours before flying. Use this to spend the day exploring Jewel and the various terminals. To me Changi airport is a playground which just happens to have planes coming and going.
Hi Chris. Changi is definitely one of the best if not the best airport in the world. They know that the airport is where people get their first and last impression of the place they visit. Singapore got it right. I agree Chris, why can't more airports incorporate some of these things into their airports. Thanks for sharing and take care.
6:38…You seem QUITE cheerful MOST of the time, Chris! It’s what makes you such a pleasant companion when we get to live vicariously through your adventures (thanks so much for that, once again!)…
The butterfly garden would be so cool to check out especially since it's free. I am really impressed with how clean it is and with all the tasty food options too.
Once again, great timing as I'll be landing at Changi in only a few days. It was so informative and helpful to have visually walked the terminal prior to my arrival & departure (to TPE afterwards on the same flight as in your other video. Even the same seat row). Beats a map on a phone any day. Thanks much for the great effort.
My Fam and i was there last Christmas headed to Manila Philippines airport and slept at Singapore Airport overnight headed home.. Take a tour also to Manila International airport when U find time..Be blessed 👊
Great video. Is there a place to check luggage while you are touring the airport? I would hate to have to lug luggage around. Is this area before or after security? Thanks.
With the transit lounge, do you know if you have to book in advance or can you just walk in and pay on arrival? Not sure if I should just go there or get a proper hotel room when I arrive. 9hr lay over @ Singapore airport.
I'm sure you could book on arrival if it's not busy.. but I'd reserve in advance personally. And I think 9 hours is too short to get out of the airport for a real hotel
Great video! I’ve been through Changi multiples times but only to transit to Jakarta. One day I will explore the whole airport. What time of the day was this video was made? It doesn’t look like there was lots of people going through there.
We have security at every gate for the customer to have a better experience- less waiting time, if u are late to the airport you’ll not get held back by others whose flight could be later than yours etc. It cost alot more manpower having a decentralised security check but customer experience is top priority for Changi
Terminal 1 is the oldest, but, it’s directly connected to Jewel at the landside. If you are flying on one world airlines, the Qantas lounge is good. T1 also has the swimming pool, TV lounges, transit hotel, Aerobar. If you are on a star alliance flight, take the sky train to Terminal 3 to visit the Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge or the Krisflyer Gold lounge. Or to visit the other shops and butterfly garden at Terminal 3.
@@lesterlam84 thank you, the pool Sounds interesting… never the did that at an Airport. Airline is Flying Blue (Delta, AF, KLM), will check the lounge situation with those
Probably 7yrs from now we will have Terminal 5. Imagine, Terminal 5 is larger than the present Terminal 1, 2, 3 & 4 put together! That’s mind boggling! 😳 What you see is only Terminal 3.
Costco carries Irvins salted egg. Not cheap! Go visit the employee's canteen for hawker prices (cheap food) at the airport. It's open to all, but you gotta find it in a parking garage. You missed the pool and movie theater.
There are 2 staff canteens: 1 at T1 and 1 at T2. T2's involves walking through what Singaporeans call the carpark or the American term would be parking garage. I saw a recent video on T2's canteen but it seemed like many stalls were shut. T1's staff canteen seems better with most stalls open. It's on the left side of Arrivals level just outside the glass doors. Here's the T1 staff canteen video from 2:32 to 6:42 though it is in Mandarin: ua-cam.com/video/wZgwIN6jrxg/v-deo.htmlsi=etqoN03qN5k4LN25
We are transiting changi on the way to perth from london, i know security is at the gate but if i wanted to buy something in london like perfume would it be confiscated in Singapore?
@@YellowProductions what if I buy something in Singapore duty free ?If you not allowed to take liquids over 100mls then surely they shouldn't be selling anything with a greater volume?
Good airport Chris, but no slidewalks ? ! You have to walk long distances with your luggage ? To me that doesn't seem to make it a great airport. I value convenience when traveling. I think you value more like attractions, shopping & food. The passport control sounds great though. Thanks !
You will notice most travellers at Changi check-in their luggages as all flights are international, and a lot of travellers are from outside the South-East Asian region. So the probability of seeing someone lugging a heavy luggage at the airside is low. In terms of convenience, Singapore’s Changi is one of the most convenient of all places I have travelled to. (And it’s not because I’m singaporean). The airport is near to the city centre, connected to the metro/subway, fast taxi queue/line with taxis which go strictly by the meter, clear and easy pick up point for ride-sharing, fast passport control, short and fast security clearance because it’s at the gate, lots of food, easy transfers, massage chairs around, just to name a few. You will be assured to board your flight on time and stress-free without going through the hassle and stress of the pre-boarding procedures in many other airports.
This is after going into departure though. Just bring a light carry on? Anyways, there are trolleys where you can put your stuff found anywhere in the airport.
I flew out of Changi about two weeks ago (Terminal 3) and found there was a real lack of places to sit and relax while waiting for your flight - it was also weird that we couldn't go to our gate and relax until closer to departure time. Not sure if I liked going through security at the gate either!
I think there are plenty of places to sit and relax.. they just aren't by the gate.. which yeah.. makes this airport much different than most. The gate area after security is really boring
Yes I'm used to quiet. At other airports I find an unused gate n hang out till my flight is boarding. It's so stressful when more n more people turn up n noise levels increase.
I'm a Singaporean. I wonder what's the fuss about an airport. No matter how nice it is, it's not the destination. It's like a bus stop. It's just a stop along the way to a destination. It should not be memorable. If it's something I notice, then there's a problem with the journey. An airport just need to be EFFICIENT and not be a bottleneck.
@@janicelee3826 I travel all the time. As a consumer of travel/transportation services, airports are only good if it does not make my journey unnecessarily long and costly i.e. as a transport HUB it offers a wide choice of airlines and lower airfares. I don't want to have to spend long hours in a transit just so that I can enjoy all the amenities of the airport if I can avoid it.
@@janicelee3826 Why should I be proud of Changi Airport just because I'm Singaporean. I play no part in its development, management or operation and even if I do, I need to be evaluated based on my significant contribution. Anyway, it's a commercial endeavour, its success should be based on financial returns - I can only hope that it does not need subsidies to keep it going.
@@shivas4328 I didn't say it's bad. I said it only matters to me if as a hub, it reduces the cost of flying eg a lower airfare and it offers a wider choice of destinations and airlines. All those extras to make it nice is only good if I don't have to pay for them because when I go to the airport, I want to fly, not to go for movies, or swimming or shopping or have dinner.
An airport is where travellers spend a fair amount of time. Yes, efficiency IS important, but that’s just one piece of the puzzle. The experience is important too. If the bus or the bus stop is dirty and unpleasant in any way, you wouldn’t want to go there right?
Singapore's Changi Airport Group ("CAG") is a very profitable venture. While it is owned by Singapore's Ministry of Finance it has been profitable almost every year except during COVID-19. For FY ending Mar 2023, CAG had an operating profit of SGD28.7m on revenues of SGD1.9bn and paid an income tax to the government of SGD19.4m. And this result is in a bad year, just after COVID. In FY ending 2019 (the year before COVID), CAG had a profit after tax of SGD574m and paid SGD240.4m to the tax authority in income taxes. This also means that it pays dividends back to Singapore's Ministry of Finance every year, helping to subsidise fiscal spending. The above does not include indirect benefits such as tourism and marketing that the Airport brings to Singapore. So, while it is true that Singapore did spend a lot on its airport, it is a long-term investment that has been very profitable for Singapore.
the story is different From other UA-camr. Some Singapore security guards are rude to tourists from China. The guards thought they were superior to other ethnic people, the truth might be the opposite. I cancelled my plan to visit this city.
