But he is right tho ultimately. They’ll never be a real contender until they can get that 1 guy. Brunson & Randle are good but their ceilings aren’t as high as other players

People keep saying that the Knicks need to get a Top 10-15 Superstar. NO TEAM is giving such a player up this season OR next summer either. Let me list them out in no particular order: 1) Embiid, 2) Doncic, 3) SGA, 4) Giannis, 5) DFox, 6) KD, 7) Trae Young, 8) Curry, 9) Tatum, 10) Edwards, 11) Jokic, 12) Lillard, 13) Maxey, 14) LBJ, 15) Donovan, 16) Halliburton, 17) Kahwi, 18) Morant, 19) DBook, 20) ETC,...
EVERY ONE of these players are on playoff contending teams, except Morant and Trae, and they're not leaving anywhere. NONE of these 17+ players are gonna sign with the Knicks this summer in free agency either. Donovan Mitchell is the only superstar that could get moved, but Cleveland has already rejected multiple trade offers, and has told everyone that they keeping him past summer 2024.
So what happens now? Knicks should just give up and waste 2 seasons hoping for a 0.1% chance that Giannis or Jokic forces a trade to the Knicks? No, you go all in on Brunson and Randle, and build around them. They're only signed through this season and next. They're both going to opt-out during summer of 2025 anyway, so let's see what we can do with them.
And guess what? If they do well and push Boston to a Game 7, that will definitely attract some players who might want to sign in free agency, or demand a trade for summer 2024. Having said that, getting OG, and another Top 20-30 player who can defend and perform well off-the-ball so that they don't step on Brunson/Randle's toes, is totally the right play here.
you're 100% correct. There are very few stars that would even fit the team, and giving up the war chest for a half measure/bad fit like Donovan Mitchell would be a disaster idea. They can get close enough to winning around Brunson if the team can be deeper and better at defense than other contenders.
They should move Randle to another team of his liking and try to get pieces around Brunson smart move by the knicks to get OG that a step up now I think they should move Randle and Robinson to get a Karl Anthony towns and Zach lavine

Did y'all know that after this season, KAT is getting paid $52m, $56m, $60m, then $64m? Randle, on the other hand, is only paid $30m next season, then $32m player option the following season. Wouldn't you rather have Randle + $22m cap space next season?

He'd do great in Isiah Thomas' front office, where names mattered more than fit (see the Stephon Marbury/Steve Francis backcourt). A Brunson/Spida backcourt only hurts the Knicks. They don't need a third iso-scorer, they need scoring production off the bench. Brunson and Randle bring it every night, and yet they get ZERO respect.

The probleme with the knicks is that when they were in the lottery they couldnt get good players, unlike boston who drafted Brown and tatum.

Both Tatum and Brown were picked top 3, anyone could’ve done that, most of the other picks they’ve made have ranged from ok (Smart) to horrendous (Fab Melo). The Knicks had only 2 picks in the top 5 in the same span, one was RJ (meh) and the other was Porzingis (a star player). Outside of those two years, the Knicks never were actually committed to being bad enough to get a top 5 pick.

That’s cuz Cleveland is poorly built as a team. They don’t have wing defenders than can shoot, their 2 best bigs are incredibly soft, and Mitchell and Garland only offer so much defensively.
Brunson has only been there 1 year and got them to the 2nd round, and clowns like Stephen A already wants to trade him.

Stephen A wants the Knicks to do what they always do, lose their patience and just chase the biggest name that they can get. They are trying to build the right way now instead of going for home run swings at every pitch.
I think you have to hit a middle ground. Giving up all your future and bench is what we used to do. Steven A wants a superstar, I don’t know if Mitchell is a superstar. There are no real superstars available right now. You’d have to hope for someone to get disgruntled and ask for a trade.
However, there have been Superstars available in the past, and we fumbled them.
We reportedly didn’t talk to Kawhi after he left the Raptors in free agency. We didn’t talk to Kevin Durant after he left the Warriors out of injury concern. These are just recent occurrences, I’m sure there have been more.
I can see where Steven A is coming from. We’re the biggest market in the NBA, but we get excited about making it past the 1st round. There’s nothing saying we can’t be the Lakers or the Celtics. We haven’t had a championship since 1973 and we’re a team in New York City. It’s pathetic, and a testament to how bad of an owner James Dolan has been. Right now we have all these draft picks, and while I like a lot of the smaller free agency moves and recent (sorry Knox and Frank) draft selections, it’s been the team with the best player in the league that has won the championships. Jokic, Curry, Giannis, Kawhi, LeBron, etc.
Am I saying we cripple our bench and give up all of our draft picks for a superstar? No. But Steven A wasn’t the only person who thought we might have given up too much for Anunoby. Barrett, Quickley, and a bunch of 1st round draft picks would be the kind of trade package for a superstar down the line. That being said, I like Anunoby, we need an elite wing-defender, I just don’t know if Randle and Brunson are good enough stars to take us to the finals in today’s NBA and I think we gave up a lot in order to get Anunoby.

SAS does not get it. In order to build a sustainable winner you need a sturdy foundation and then you put the walls in place then the roof. Brunson and Randle comprise the foundation. OG, Ragu, Grimes, Hartenstein, Etc comprise the walls and the roof they need is not currently available. At least not before the summer when demands to be traded may occur.

Mitchell is great but Brunson has the killer instinct which elevates the Knicks. Losing IQ broke my heart but he probably wants to be a starter on another team with a higher salary. OG and Precious will fit in well. The Knicks aren't looking to win this year. Better that they get top players and look towards 2026. Randle is maturing and becoming more consistent. The team had great camaraderie RJ had a huge salary and wasn't producing, The trade was a good move on the Knick's part. l. He will be happier not playing in the bright lights of the Knicks and is from Toronto. I think all in all it was a good trade.

Careful what you wish for, the game of big fish hunting is fraught with danger, just ask the Nets. Even when you draft them (and you figure they’re gonna be a star), there is still a great deal of uncertainty. Just ask Ben Simmons, Andrew Wiggins, Deandre Ayton, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant etc.

The Knicks would be a contending team right now if Randle were as good as he's made out to be. SAS doesn't know much about basketball, but it doesn't take a genius to see a Thibs coached team with Randle scoring 25 per night has a 2nd round ceiling.
There's basically 2 types of Knicks fans: those who appreciate that Randle is available and productive and are proud of his individual accomolishments...and those who realize the Knicks won't beat anybody good in the playoffs with the way he plays.
Maybe OG will rub off on Randle. A 17/12/2 Randle with better shot selection and higher defensive intensity would help the Knicks win more than his empty/inefficient All NBA stats.

Not true stars force their way out of their current teams and demand to go to a specific team now every year almost. Thats just a narrative. Stars dont want to play for the knicks. Saying its about contracts is an excuse they made.
