Let's hang out on Twitter! / davidpwolfe
Honestly I've been following periphery since 2019 when they released P4.....and dude they've become my favorite band. These guys are some of the most talented people on the planet right now musically.
They're next level!
Same, I discovered them from another clip that broke down Bury the Light from Devil May Cry 5 and the creator(don't know if I can shout him out or not, so I'd rather not) referenced Periphery, Reptile to be more exact...and I was like, hmm this sounds cool. Let's check it out. I listened to the entirety of P4 and was like...dude, what is this? So many genres and so well blended together, this is great.
Then I listened to P2 and P3 and was like, okay I can see what they're about, so cool.
Then I listened to what is now my favourite record by them, Juggernaut. Alpha was good, though lacked a bit of cohesion...Omega on the other hand was PERFECT from start to finish.
I used to literally hate periphery for no reason like a dumbass but then I saw Rick beatos video on Absolomb, then I was like ok lets try more, and now Im crying while listening to their songs XD
Wax wings, man. Thats the one for me. Beautiful.
Periphery has solidified their place as my favorite band since 2011/2012 when i was finishing high school and with every album they release it reconfirms my suspicion that these guys have no limit to their talent. Incredible album as always
I literally discovered them because of wildfire and I fell in love with it, now they are my favorite band and I listened all their discography that's is absolutely masterpiece
Wildfire was my way in too!
same lmao
Album is so good. Takes a few listens to really appreciate it in my opinion. It's complex. Spencer killed it this album. Silhouette is just a flex just to show diverse they can be. And I can appreciate that.
If you haven't listened to some of their older stuff you should do some full album reviews as well. P2 and Juggernaut all flow together which is pretty cool.
Really like your format!
I'm definitely planning on doing full album reactions for their older stuff!
@@davidpwolfe YES!! Can’t wait to go through P2 with you
@@davidpwolfe Yes, big recommend. Especially P2!
Periphery has been a massive inspiration for me as a musician. Been listening since P1 and they never fail to deliver. Their music sometimes takes a little time to sink in and understand the genius of because it’s so different from an other band. Great video 🔥
I agree! Periphery wasn’t easy for me to get into because of their unique rhythmic patterns and time signatures, but once I gave them enough listens, they’ve been my favourite band since 2015!

Most of the time, follow the cymbals for the beat. Matt tends to hold a steady count on cymbals while doing the more fun stuff with the snare and kick. Of course, he does a lot of cymbals accents too, so you gotta have a bit of an ear for it. Haha
He's definitely a beast on the drums!
Thanks Nobuo has those The Summer Jam vibes 👌
Atropos is actually completely in 4/4 I believe. They just use the meshuggah tactic of writing what sounds like a non-4/4 riff over a 4/4 beat.
Just listen to the hi-hat (I think)
Very interesting!
Correct, Tool has done this too, plays with the listeners ear
Major The 1975 vibes with the track Silhouette.
I wonder how many people have heard the cover of "Me" (by the 1975) that Spencer did 6 years ago
Huge Periphery fan here/the other bands you've reacted to; your videos are always great! Loved that you were being drawn away during Drac (even though I never could be😆) and then that gnarly breakdown hit haha. Their track listings have been so on point since 3DOT (and Sumerian honestly). Thoroughly enjoyed this, so thank you!
Periphery loves video games and Thanks Nobuo is probably a thank you to Nobuo Uematsu, a pioneer of video game music like Final Fantasy and others.
Oh sick! I've actually never played those games as I just got my first PlayStation last year, but I know they're legendary.
@@davidpwolfe Check out the main theme of Final Fantasy 7 and you'll hear that chorus.
Definitely check out P2, dude. One of my favorite albums of all time. Masterpiece.
ive been on this nonstop since it dropped. absolutely in heaven. wax wings and dracul gras are my favorites. its so groovy and stimulating!! wish it was a few hours longer XD the making of video was really interesting as well
Also their entire discography is this good. The only improvements in each album is how much they experiment and their mixing quality.
Periphery has been my favourite band since 2015 , and although I have binged on other bands along the way, Architects and Spiritbox just to name a few, but Periphery will always remain my favourite band, and this album just solidifies that even more.
They continue to reinvent the wheel of modern metal/music with each and every release.
And then there’s Spencer Sotelo, need I say more?
His voice is so good!
Saw them live Tues and they played Atropos and Wildfire. Awesome live! My favorite band. Super album, I've been listening nonstop since it came out.
Periphery are not a fan of sanctuaries 😅😅
Off to see them and UO live tomorrow in Tucson!
Have fun man! Should be a killer show!
Cheers🤘 enjoyed listening along with you. I would definitely recommend to listen to their entire catalogue.
Thanks for checking it out! More Periphery is definitely coming.
@@davidpwolfe My top albums would be P3 (the bands best song writing), P4 (my intro the band), Alpha/Omega (an epic double concept album). Not sure where P5 will end up but it's in the top.
Enjoy your journey 🤘 I sure have.
That Underoath intro though!
This guy knows what's up! 🤘
I only discovered Periphery by accident last November and have since become my favourite band. Can’t believe it took me this long to discover them.
Same! This was my first album i've heard from them. i'm kicking my self for not checking them out sooner.
@@davidpwolfe only good thing about getting into them late is that there’s plenty of music to listen to 😁
Both songs where they talk about being in the middle, it’s right before the exact middle of the song
Interesting... 🤔
Been a huge fan since 2012, and i can say easily this is some of their best work. Wax wings is simply beautiful, definitely Spencer’s best vocal work to date. If power ballads were a thing like the 80’s this would be a modern ballad.
The whole album is amazing and haven’t let a do go by where i haven’t listened to it from start to finish.
I’m in the same boat as you, long songs and long albums concern me, but I really enjoyed this album! Also, that liquid death is my favorite flavor 😎
It's so good! They should sponsor me for real.
@@davidpwolfe don’t forget me when you’re famous
Periphery is fucking crazy, Matt's drums, Jake Mark and Misha's 3 powerful guitars, and Spencer's beastly voice
There is a lot that I love about this album but without a doubt my favorite is Wax Wings, it reminded me a lot when I discovered Satelited and the same emotion
I have an idea for the weird choices of notes in the Wildfire chorus .. I will start this by saying that I'm not good with music theory. But doesn't the jazz part make sense? Help me if I'm wrong but the reason they go back into that puzzling chorus is to show hey! Jazzy note choices? Maybe? It's become one of the most split things on the album on whether the chorus makes sense or not. But it made more sense to me when it directly followed the jazz part. My ears just felt it better after the jazz part.
a year too late lol but its also that its just a reference to the prgression from the track The Event from their album Juggernaut Alpha (Wildfire and Zagreus have multiple references to the Juggernauts albums cause this album was originally supposed to be a sequel of the story from Juggernaut)
Also fun fact they don’t really use/know much music theory 😂
Exactly why they inspire me so much to pursue music as a full time career (Maybe one day for sure!)
They create music based on the vibes and emotions, and it just works for them.
Wax wings is good with its pretty melodies and soaring vocals, but Dracul Gras is their "Reptile" song, it's just a fucking experience. When you're done with Wax Wings, you go for Dracul Gras when you want the meat of what Periphery is.
Dracul Gras is such a massive intimidating beast of a song, really is a unique experience i never get tired of 🙂 love it
I liked them since i heard reptile years ago
What a way to kill 78 minutes. You should listen to this album for 24 hours straight and record it.
My attention span is so terrible, I think I'd go crazy! As much as I love this album, it think that would break me lol.
Funny enough, no one in the band knows music theory or how to read music. They all just write based on feel and what sounds "good." That being said, they obviously know music theory in a way that makes sense to them, just not in a way that people educated in theory would understand it.
i’ve been listening to this band since P2 & they have never disappointed me in being extremely creative. everyone in the band always shows out
