For FLOG 2, you want to over expose and then bring it back down in post to lower the noise volume for the slow motion video. Remember, the native ISO is 1250, which is pretty sensitive and noisy when bringing up the shadows, you're better off working back highlights instead.
This is one of the very few channels where I can listen to a list video without timestamps. It just stays entertaining all the way through. Thank you for the quality content.
From what I gather, the increase in noise, especially visible in high frame rates is a byproduct of the stacked sensor processing at 14-bit instead of 12-bit on other Fuji cameras. The benefit is an increase in dynamic range and substantial decrease of the rolling shutter but at the cost of a higher noise floor. Maybe Fuji could add a 12-bit "low noise" mode or maybe not. For me the XH2S benefits outweigh the setbacks but my needs are different than yours. Definitely return it and wait for an upcoming model without stacked sensor, maybe the XH2.. or XT5.
Well, I’ve become addicted to the artistic and comedic value of your videos. I really don’t pay much attention to the technical camera elements any more and seriously believe you could do a great solo stage performance. I don't trust YT reviews. Especially big channels that get free stuff or monetise their videos. Unless they are rubbishing something. Most of the time they give positive reviews so they carry on getting free stuff, otherwise they would loose this revenue stream. This is why there's about 90% of reviews on the Canon R7 being the greatest thing ever, and me and a friend bought one and are disappointed to say the least. Eye tracking? Subject tracking? Yeah, when it wants to. Very frustrating most of the time. I feel like it really needs a firmware update. It looses the bird and decides to focus on the background 50% of the time. So annoying. Never had this problem with the DSLRs
Spot on! This is why I haven't upgraded from the Canon R. The next three cameras after that have serious overheating issues and while I agree that the R has some cripple hammer issues like the 4K crop and no stab, I compensate by shooting wide and buying lenses that have IS.
There are yotubers that test microphones for "filmmaking" while shouting at a microphone 10cm away in an actual booth, or in a room but with the microphone 5cm above their heads. 95% of microphones are useless even at 30cm, due to noise level. Actual filmmaking requires 40 to 150cm and only a handful of models can achieve a part of this range, and that is with relatively high noise in some cases. Still, someone has to push all the junk to amateurs and it has to sound as good as the best microphones in a studio. Camera tests are like these microphone tests.
@@DaisysWorld192 The R7 doesn't have the overheat issue, or issues that the R5 and R6 have. On paper it's great. In the real world... not so much. The auto focus has a mind of it's own
@@ArcanePath360 you should check out Peter Gregg channel and his R7 was overheating in quite a few different settings. I can run these cameras all day with unlimited recording and no overheating issues. Don't get me wrong I'm a Canon girl who's been waiting for Canon to go back to the drawing board and launch a camera with no issues.
Exactly. It’s ridiculous he doesn’t get free cameras to review when much smaller channels due. He is honest and tells the truth. Tells you all you need to know about the camera industry.
Goddamit, I've just came across to this channel looking for x-h2 and x-h2s opinions and now I can't stop watching your videos with a stupid smile at my face all the time
I think mirrorless cameras reached their peak about 3-5 years ago with cameras like the GH5, GH5s, XT3, G9, A7III, EM1 Mark III etc. Improvements can still be made but they are minor or at the expense of huge tradeoffs like making the cameras very heavy for improved specs, overheating, the cripple hammer (looking at you Canon) or poor build quality to save on weight. Camera technology seems like it's heavily limited by physics. Unless there is a huge breakthrough in technology I think we are mostly going to see bells and whistles and gimmicks by the camera companies going foward.
I don't think so, I think Mirrorless is just warming up. a7Siii came after a7iii, R3 came after R5, Z9 after all the Nikon cameras. It is only time that a mid range Mirrorless will rekindle the Mirrorless Rush.
I get the feeling you haven't touched any of the recent mirrorless cameras that have been released in the past two or three years. My A7iv has blown away everything I owned before, including the GH5.
I borrowed an XH2s to check out for myself since there are so many conflicting reviews. I haven't tested the video yet, and since I'm primarily a still shooter, the video is not my priority like it is for you. I will say that the autofocus is very impressive for stills and a huge leap up from my XT4. I even like the new layout and don't mind the loss of physical dials as I thought I would, and although some of the buttons are in weird places that are hard to reach, overall it's laid out very well. But, even for someone like me, who primarily shoots stills, if I can't take a talking head video for my UA-cam channel with some solid BTS footage, it doesn't make any sense to purchase it. That part remains to be seen for me as I'm going to do a bunch of video on it soon.
It can film all the things you mentioned, very well lol. I make talking head videos on it every day and it doesn’t miss once. The video bird detect modes need some finessing but they’re much more usable than these videos suggest too.
@@heymikeriley it all depends on what your need it for but for the price the af should be on par or better than competitors. With the few clips I took of b roll for a UA-cam video it hunted a lot which surprised me. So for the price I expect it to be rock solid and barely ever miss when using video. I’m not sure it’s there but I still have some testing to do to see for myself. It’s an awesome still camera that’s for sure.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Take a few days with it. The af just works a bit different. Sony and Canon seem to know where to focus on, even if there is no indication. Fuji is a system that wants to be told where to focus on, except for face/object tracking, which it does well. So basically turn af area on whenever there is no person, animal or so in the shot and it won’t hunt at all.
@@pascalbasel Yep I am already seeing that. There doesn't seem to be a seemless way to go from filming a person to a scene without changing the mode as you said.
Kasey, my brother, come back to Panasonic with the GH6. I know you are going to trash it but we Panasonic users love you all the same. Remember when you get it, make sure you put on an ND filter when you use DR Boost.
I have an XH2S and can say, the stabilization is no better than XT4 in my use. Haven’t used 240p but the 4k 120 is crispy and sharp. You buy this camera for one reason: autofocus with Fuji colors. I recorded 35 minutes of talking head and the 8-16 F2.8 and the autofocus was flawless. XT4 could never do that. For continuous AF stills the hit rate is at least 75-80%, where my XT4 was probably 20%
@@DarkPa1adin depends on the situation, for the talking head I just had it on auto eye tracking For stills I’m still figuring out the best for the situation. Animal subject detection was not flawless in my limited tests. It focused on humans as often as it focused on the dog I was trying to shoot.
Nice! I'm going to rent the XH2S and the 150-600mm next week and take it outdoors as well as a high school football game on the sideline. Well see how it does. I'm sure I will love it seeing as my current camera is the XT2.
Agree with all of this, other than not having the xt4 to compare IBIS. The 240 does suck, but the 4k120 is glorious and a dealbreaker for me at this point if a camera can’t do it. You’re bang on about good autofocus in a Fuji. He doesn’t even shoot stills, so that’s writing off half the camera right away. But it works flawlessly for human detect video in my experience. The animal detect could be improved (although I get good results at 24fps) but it’s still usable if you know how it’s going to perform.
Would be interessting to see if he gets his hands on a Sony A7 IV, I know he won't like the video specs but maybe the new colors science will bring him joy.
I have it, one thing to note is the 1080p120 can only be FF or APSC, you can’t get a 100% Center crop from it if you were thinking of more reach for wildlife.
Makes me feel glad I stuck with my Fujifilm X-S10 and bought a couple of lenses for it. I recently shot some photos/videos of a local band at a very low-light venue (only the stage lights) with the cheap XC 35mm F2 lens and the stills shot at ISO 3200 JPEG look great (and I am fussy about noise) plus the videos shot at ISO 400 also looked vibrant, sharp and rich (Provia film simulation). And the IBIS with IS Boost ON performed great (only shooting static shots though so it didn't matter). Sometimes you just have to get the best out of what you have got.
@@bulbigood6558 The X-S10 shares the same sensor & processor so the image quality should be identical. Yes of course there are some advantages to the X-T4 but I'm ok with that 🙂
I like your videos so much; I always laugh out loud several times throughout. Quirky, amusing, entertaining, informative, and also you come across as a really good guy 🌞
Every Fuji release since the XT-1 felt like I was a beta tester for some reason with the exception of the XE series. Some of those updates really were ultra-specific, like adding a very particular flash to HSS or something only seemingly 4% of users would care about. Dunno, I love the way Fuji looks and the fact they basically single handedly started this constant update revolution, but when you look at the larger picture - for the price and the state of where this camera is right now at launch I think there are much more feature rich options with better integration for video OR photo shooters.
I liked the xt4:s autofocus over lumix, but in every other regard it's like you say, fuji beta test, lumix finished product that works in the real world
There are only two things like I don't like about Fuji and the second thing is more annoying and is difficult to rectify. First is of course video autofocus (*but it can be fixed), the second reason which no one talks about is the fact that prominent Fuji lenses are more expensive than the full frame Tamron and Sigma lenses for e mount. The cost value proposition doesn't make sense to me. Fuji Xh2s with new xf 150-600 is more expensive than a7iv and Sigma 150-600 e mount.
The Calibrite ColorChecker Passport fits in your pocket, and is more accurate than the foldable one your carrying. They also come with a lanyard, so you can hang it around your neck.
I'm surprised you didn't comment on the X-H2 rumor of it excluding 1080@240p altogether. Could it be the new sensors just can't handle it with a priority on delivering different functionality? It seems strange for the new "flagships" to lose features their previous generation had on cameras 1/3 of the cost.
It's much harder to produce those higher frame rates on a 40mp sensor without horrid rolling shutter, from my understanding. I'm guessing at that MP count for the sensor size the cons outweigh the pros of having those high frame rates.
That cricket jump scare actually made me jump xDDD I was not expecting that so early in the morning LOL another reason you are simply one of the best YT film/gear channels out there!
Like the XT-4, the focus range feature does wonders to prevent wandering. In your vlogs your walk-n-talks are in the same head-to-camera range. It may be worth one more test. And one thing we know about Fuji, is that they are awesome at firmware updating the cameras. Whatever you decide, someone will be a lucky camera buyer and we are entertained to have watched your videos.
I like your proposed business model whereby you buy stuff, test it out, tell us about it, and then sell it if so be. Seems that the XH2s will have a positive impact on how you approach your channel even if you do sell it. Good stuff :)
Colors and dynamic range are actually very pleasing to look at here. Feels like it never clips, only extremely soft roll-off while preserving colors in highlights, with good hue as much as possible.
I'm glad you left the XH2S by the dumpster where it belongs. Don't get scammed again, you're better than this. Also, I liked the $10 you found that you put on their truck, at least Fuji didn't get it! I like Fuji, but this camera is embarrassing to their brand. Fuji is too "hit or miss", no consistent lens lineup for video shooters, they don't know what they're doing with video. To be fair though, at least the histogram stays on when you hit the record button, Canon is even worse in head scratching cripples department regarding video features. No camera is perfect but I refuse to buy into something where the lack of effort is obvious.
Yeah, I was flirting with the idea of the X-H2, glad i didn’t switch, cause I would be perturbed… On another note, the GH5II has been flawlessly great thus far, definitely punches above it’s weight class… …
Casey, get the C100 mkii. It is the God Camera. Just remember it was literally created at the beginning of time, before stone tools. Accept that it won't do 4k or 240 frames. Accept that it doesn't have 15 stops of DR or RAW or IBIS. It's your 60 frame 1080p AVCHD Savior. There is none higher.
Perhaps the greatest comedy is what UA-cam does to these videos before they get to us. You speak of clarity and the specific qualities of acquisition. You show us examples. Then UA-cam feeds us 4K helpings of macroblocks and squirrelly compression arty facts. It's like the cassette player and headphones provided at the beginning of a museum walkthrough. Before it's over, the cassette tape has snapped, the phones have blown up Dankpods-style, and all sync has been lost. We'll never know if Mr Da Vinci ever scored with Ms. Lisa.

The power of marketing. Tried an XT4 due to the hype for stills when it came out and wasn't blown away compared to my old DSLR for the price! Hi Kasey, I'm a fuji user who switch from x-t3 to x-t4 in its first week of release. I followed and waited for the innovations of Xh-2s for a very long time. But after the xh2s released, I was shockedly disappointed by the features I read and the reviews I watched. I think Fuji officials are trying to sell something that they don't give properly to people by showing the machine much more than it is, purely on the basis of advertisements on this machine. No slowmo on 6k mode, 1.28 crop in 4k120, low quality slowmo quality, an auto-focus that does not come to the very good degree even though a private external processor is said to be reserved, c-fast cards are very expensive, in-body stabilization has gone backwards even though it is said to be "forward". All of these, makes me think about the Fuji company that : When the Fuji tries to establish an emotional bond with its users, on the other hand, it follows a - as uncomfortably- interest-oriented and "pretending to give but not really giving" company policy. If there is an official here who reads me, let me tell him this; You do not follow a policy as smart as you think and people see your hand. This sales and marketing policy will make you lose in the medium term. The issue is not money, everyone buys products according to their budget. The important thing is how the ecosystem you will use works (how often the camera or lens comes out, what features are offered, does it really care about the customer? or is it pretending to care etc.) and the solutions it offers to the needs of the day. I'm definitely going to skip xh2s and keep my x-t4 until x-t5 comes out (weird news has already started coming from him as if it won't be a battery grip either). Again, if I realize that - my opinion- a gimmick machine will come, I will change my ecosystem without thinking for a second.
What a world we live in, every camera is about selecting what compromises you can live with. Hopefully when Sigma releases its Foveon camera its actually gonna be mirrorless this time and hopefully L-mount with a body thats functional.
Lens flare ? I've had better results from a Polaroid, peel-off, instant pic from back in the day. Damnably expensive (then and now), and you'd need a lot of 'em to create the movie effect, but quality was close to what Fuji delivered to us today.

Ditto!
What's your AF tuning?
@@DarkPa1adin depends on the situation, for the talking head I just had it on auto eye tracking
For stills I’m still figuring out the best for the situation.
Cost more than that woman and sitting on a Big Mac got me...lol
10:29 "not stealing is the new giving" - quote of the year 2022😎
Would be interessting to see if he gets his hands on a Sony A7 IV, I know he won't like the video specs but maybe the new colors science will bring him joy.
I would too. I just ordered mine. It’s doubtful we’ll ever see it because of the cropped 4k 60 and no 240fps
I heard X-S10 sensor even slightly better than in X-T4. But UHS-1 and other limits are meh
@@bulbigood6558 The X-S10 shares the same sensor & processor so the image quality should be identical. Yes of course there are some advantages to the X-T4 but I'm ok with that 🙂
xs10 is the best value for money Fuji camera,I just wish the battery was bigger.
My X-S10 never failed me, even more, it amazes me every time I use it.
@@pojemario It's a great little camera for sure.
I like your videos so much; I always laugh out loud several times throughout. Quirky, amusing, entertaining, informative, and also you come across as a really good guy 🌞
Scary how accurate "not stealing is the new giving" is! 🤔
Fuji isn’t what it used to. That’s why I left them.
@@carlosmcse what system did you switch to?
@@FC000 Leica M10R + Summicron
It's much harder to produce those higher frame rates on a 40mp sensor without horrid rolling shutter, from my understanding. I'm guessing at that MP count for the sensor size the cons outweigh the pros of having those high frame rates.
Quote of the Century: Not stealing is the new giving.
That's why I love this channel.
That cricket jump scare actually made me jump xDDD I was not expecting that so early in the morning LOL another reason you are simply one of the best YT film/gear channels out there!
I like Astia! I think it looks great at -2 on highlights and shadows, like the end result of a nicely graded log file. Sometimes -1 on color
After Nuclear WW-III if you has to change location with only backpack (thus you can take only one camera) which one will you take with you?
Riii...I don't do video
Haha. It’s gonna be okay, dude.
Yeah, I was flirting with the idea of the X-H2, glad i didn’t switch, cause I would be perturbed… On another note, the GH5II has been flawlessly great thus far, definitely punches above it’s weight class…

Actually super helpful. Type of stuff I’d find out when it’s too late and be disappointed
Lisa.

Very curious. How many times have you bought the X-T4 now?
The placement of the delete and playback button is annoying. Yes I assigned my AEL as the playback but when I try to delete what I am seeing, i have to move to the left for the delete button
Can I ask you if the XH2-S is better or the OM-1. I am not sure which one to go for. Thank you. Peace.

You just saved me a whole lot of time trying out the XH2s. I was all set to try it and to possibly replace my R5 which its sole purpose is to take videos of my cat in 4k 120 and then you uttered the words "Animal eye detect doesn't work in 4k 120p" and boom. No XH2s for me. Thank you.
It works, just very unreliable.
Did you not try firmware 1.03? AF got tweaked in general which seems to have polished things but the big deal is they fixed the AF in 120fps so it actually works now.
Dynamic range seems fine for me. Interesting which exposure settings are you using? 0, -1, +1 EV in toneh priority? And what about face detect AF?
Looking for a decent Fuji body for my Canon FD lenses (5 now!). The XT4 has some insane wobble even when you're almost standing still. I don't see myself ever selling the A7S III, but the custom film recipes are really fun.

The X-H2 is supposed to be more cinema-centric. Or I could be full of it. At least it's cheaper.
Kasey, I'm curious. I think you didn't have the XH2S for more than a month. Why can't you just return it?

My father used to serve in military special forces and he told that they were taught that only meat you cannot prepare is.. seagull.. apparently they taste really awful.
Heard that a lot of firefighters don't eat pork.
No you're wrong. Your mamma taste worse than seagull.
The power of marketing. Tried an XT4 due to the hype for stills when it came out and wasn't blown away compared to my old DSLR for the price! The dials on that camera appeal to some but they lost that on the XH2. In Fuji world I think many will wait until the XT5 comes out but pretty sure neither will inspire me across. Thanks for an honest review.
Exceptional points made, and with headphones on, the audio with the little fuzzy lavalier mic is pretty damn clear. One clarification, however. Here in Florida, Mcdonald's burgers are made from Manatee. Look it up. Totally real. And they are delicious.
Would love to see you try out the Canon R7 in lieu of dumping the X-HS2. Coming from a M6 MK ii, it fixes almost all the shortcomings of Canon’s APSC lineup.
The R7 is worse than the X-H2S in all aspects, save for AF and IBIS. If he’s already disappointed with the Fuji, the Canon will be a massive letdown.
"not stealing is the new giving..." words to live by!
Get the Canon C100 MK II so you can prove me wrong or cringe in abject disappointment as I did. Maybe you can compose a special song in its honor.
"On/Off button annoyed me." LOL, not many complaints then. This at $2500 seems like a very good upgrade from the X-T4. No one else can offer these many features at this price.
I'm beginning to think the X-H2S was the prototype and the X-H2 releasing next month will be so much better. Who knows... I guess you could say, it's all a conspiracy 😎

I was hoping that the XH2s would save me from switching to Sony for professional work since i've already accrued fuji lenses for my xt3. After seeing all of these videos on the 2s, it's making me wonder if i should just pull the trigger on an a7iv with a 2470 lens.
If you don’t use it for video, yeah that makes more sense.
@@jlinc187 Why though? A7IV is still very capable for video if you don't plan on using slow-motion that much. And even with the crop, it crops to XH2s sensor size
@@alexlubinski7795 I guess it just depends on what you're doing. The quick overheating and crazy amount of rolling shutter would make it impossible for me personally.
@@jlinc187 If you don't mind the super 35 recording, the rolling shutter actually gets pretty low at that point. I haven't heard about the overheating though, is it really bad compared to A7SIII for example?
@@alexlubinski7795 I think super 35 is the best video format anyway! But yeah the overheating is insane. Give it a quick Google search and you'll likely find lots of people talking about it. He described it as Canon R5 bad.
Hey man, whats called the attachment thing on your bag to secure the mirrorless cameras? I need one one those I guess. Do you recommend it for xt4+xf16-55 usage?
