A song that clearly displays the musical versatility of the composer Maestro Kemadasa.

Jothi's young voice is very clear and lovelier than in the version of the song recorded later. Thanks for sharing the original song.

Both Jothi and Amaradeva possessed similar trait that is the voice in their youthhood than later in their career. Jothi was probably not that much affected as he bade farewell at the age of 51. Also the music - I think original music by Dasanayake and Khemadasa were pivotal in Jothi's success except for the Hindi versions.

@@Dr196903 Thanks for your comment. Jothi's voice HAD INDEED been affected by the time he bade farewell at the age of 51. You only have to make a comparison of the songs in his early career starting from his very first " mage ran rajini " . He was just 20 years old when he sang in his first film Surathalee, at which time he had the tender charming voice of a youth. Later in his playback career, he developed such a commanding deep masculine voice of such majesty, it was almost unrecognizable compared to his early singing voice. The best test is to compare the first recordings of certain songs, with the later recorded versions of the same songs. If you have access pl. check out on the original versions and later versions of the following songs. " Aaley mihira penna " ( 1959 film Gehenu geta, at age 23 ) "Ael hene pel rakiddi," with GSB Rani, " Ali naew ena kolomba nagare" with Seelanath Perera, "Dakina dasuney" with Sujatha, ( 1970 film Geetha ) " Denna priye daethata oya daetha" with Rukmani, " Ma langa hinehee innawa nam oba" ( 1963 film Sudu sande kalu walaa) " Ma pethu dey ko " ( 1962 film Suhada divi piduma ) " Mage adarita sampatha sepa sathuta sadannam " These are but a few examples I found in my song base. In fact the transition of his voice from youth to maturity is phenomenal, which I have not observed in any other male voice. There was a story that some persons were responsible in trying to harm his singing voice by adding a harmful substance to his drink, but Jothi overcame the damage caused to his throat and emerged with an even better husk in his voice unparalleled in the history of Sinhala cinema. As for maestro WD Amaradeva, I am not qualified to comment on his voice, because I have not followed his singing career very closely. ( with all due respect to him ) I am a bit late in posting this comment, because the whole of last week I was preoccupied with SPB 😥

@@Chrisanthie Bit later than usual and my apologies too. I think talking about husky voices there's an automatic fellow that comes to my mind - Rod Stewert. He never changes even in his 70s now I believe. As of our Amaradeva, I'm inclined to utter a few words although I may not necessary say that is par to Jothi's maturity in the coming of age of voice. If you go back as far as 1948 to 'Asokamala' Amaradeva then Albert Perera had a relatively ordinary voice albeit with clear pronunciation, for example 'Ayi kale yamek aale'. But towards 60s and 70s he'd really become a Maestro or spiritual apex. I think in 1977 when he celebrated his 50th birthday with 'Shrawana Ramani' music show which I attended, probably the best of his voice. So to a certain extent most of these unique voices have a typical reflection in the voice control probably around 50s it peaks.

@@Dr196903Thank you for your expert views as usual. As for Rod Stewart, I have heard only a few songs. Sure enough he has a great husk in his voice, but I do not know when most of his songs were sung, whether at 30 or 70 ! With regard to maestro Amaradeva's songs, I really love the lyrics , more than his voice. He was very lucky with the caliber of lyricists who wrote for him, eg: Mahagama sekara. Some of the songs I have enjoyed due to the lyrics: Oba ma samaga athinath ganna dawasa, Sanda horen horen, Anothaththa wila , Piley pedura, Bol vee ahuru, Ma mala pasu. To be very honest I was not a great fan of his voice and never followed him keenly. Talking of voices, the man whose voice never changed with age is the great SPB ( So sad about his demise ) They say about his voice, that AGE was only a number. I couldn’t differentiate between his voice at 70 and his voice at 35. He excelled in all genres of singing. I dare call him the voice of the century ! His brilliance is unmatched even in India. A deep manly voice, but sometimes smooth as silk. Thanks to the You Tube I have watched hundreds of his videos with sheer joy. And mind you I don't understand a word of what he sings ( except for the Hindi songs which I understand ) His Hindi pronunciation is spot on, though not his mother tongue. The Tamil and Telugu songs throw me overboard. Wow ! what a voice. A man who sang in 16 languages ( mostly Indian I believe ) sadly never got the chance to sing just ONE Sinhala number. That makes me very sad.
