But doesn't the Sony cost $350 while the Surfan's only costs $130? How can that that be a comparison if the high-end one costs almost three times as much? It's still a valid review, since the Sony brought their price down on this one. What's cool is that the Surfans can't compare the sound of the Sony, it is still going to sound MUCH BETTER than listening to your music from your cell phone. Not only that, but the Surfans has the cool-factor of looking like a vintage Game-Boy made of sliver.
I agree there is allot to love about Surfans and Yes it is cheaper. I would suggest your check out the Surfans IEMs. There spec'ed perfect for the Surfans F20 - Amazon Link amzn.to/3VStxgs
why do I hear a gnome in the background?

The Surfans is great for the price! Just a correction. The Surfans has a lineout. Not balanced.
Correct.
Sufrans, please release a newer, updated version of the F20 (ie F21 or F20 Gen) with an improved scrolling wheel, improved interface, improved chipset & longer battery life. Thanks.
Have you seen the SUrfans F28? amzn.to/47FgBk8
I'd love a comparison between the Sony NW-A306 and the newer Surfans F28. The F28 looks really neat for what it is!
thats a great idea. I may make that video in the future.
Myslím, že to ani nejde srovnat. jsou to úplně rozdílné kategorie cenově zpracování.

@@fermild3954 comparison between the Sony NW-A306 and the newer Surfans F28?
@@TUXXREVIEWS Hi... Yes please
Great reviews. What program do you use to manage your music files?
MP3editor www.mp3tag.de/en/ Its a useful tool. If you have a better one let me know.
Does the headphone jack size make a difference in audio? What size for each one in this vid. Thanks for the review.
no not for normal headphones. The 3.5mm and 6.3mm are about the same, but i believe 6.3mm can handle a bit more power.
But 4.4mm, 2.5mm and xlr are balanced outputs. Balance audio is free from electrical interference (if you have shoddy power in your music player or in your outlet) and also it usually outputs more power so some harder to drive high end headphones prefer a balanced out
@@shadeymcbones6707 I appreciate the response.
Sony's OS is super annoying. I Boughtnand could not live with it. I gave it away and got a Hifi-walker. What a great gadget
whats your favorite feaures of the hifi walker? Thats the H2 you purchased?
The Surfan is a brick!.. the sony looks a lot lighter and "pocket-able"...
Sony is smaller in every way
How much better is the Sony NW-A306 in comparsion to the NW-A105???
Its simuar but much more of a upgrade than lets say iphone 13 to 14 etc. If you have a 5 and happy with it I would say unless you need the latest and greatest your "ok" but if any part of you, even a little part wants the latest sound upgrades I would buy a 6. Note I tend to skip every other phone generation but love this player. To me its worth it as a avid music fan but to others maybe not as much. I will say the battery is better and that alone may be more than enough for some to buy..
Hi also tell us about the compatible wired/wireless hi-res earphones you've used so far with NW-A306 🙏
Thats true headphones are part of the puzzle. Do you want ot hear more about test headphones or less? just confirming
I choose Surfans price is diference
Surfans is one of my favorite brands forsure!
The surfans isn't balanced, one output is regular, the other is a line out
just buy the iphone 13 mini
Not the same sound quality - According to Apple's own specs, it can play MP3, AAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF audio files. The iPhone also supports FLAC files, but only through Apple's Files app (pain the the @$$). This was introduced as part of iOS11, which launched in 2017. There is no native support for DSD / DSF.
Hi. Thank you for the reviews of the Sony. Where do you get dsd files?
A dj friend
@@TUXXREVIEWS ok, thank you. That's why :D
Hi I recently bought the Surfans F20 which I’ve been using with 1more triple driver in-ear earphones and it juste sounds bad (at least significantly worse than my previous set up which was just my iPhone 13 Pro Max with apple’s wired earphones and Spotify set on the highest quality). Can anyone tell me why ?
PS : It’s definitely not about the quality of the audio files as I usually download them in a lossless format !
I would suggest trying some diffrent earbuds, perhaps sonys flagship noise cancling earbuds - AMAZON LINK amzn.to/3Jtpou0 Samsung and APPLE dont have 3.5 mm headphone jacks. so if you love wired headphones like I do I would suggest no usbc doggles or whatever. And last I wouldnt say spotify is not the best way to judge music quality. Dont stream music as so much loss can be had through connections, get real HD audio files that are stored on your device. The sony NW-A306 allows a memory card (something APPLE and Samgung dont have anymore). My best files are DSF format, but there is many HD music formats to choose from.
An important difference is that the Sony has full Android OS, so if you have Wi-Fi internet you can run Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify or other apps.
Its nice having the full power of Andriod OS but I hope that doesnt cause people to go crazy installing unnessary apps that can take up space or slow down device. Nice touch but use repsonsibily.
But WHY is the headphone socket on the Surfans on the bottom?????
MY cassette walkman socket was on the TOP, where it makes more sense to be!
Sometimes companies put the headphone jack on the bottom so the cord doesnt drape across the player when in use.
Sony are missing a trick not allowing a storage card to be in it.
trick not not allow a storage card? Explain how thats good. Dunt get what your saying
Uuuuggghhh that annoying Dove is still lurking in the background
Sorry, If I record durring the day time she wants to choo in. Im working on it.
Good comparison thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Pessimo suono e a volume basso!
The surfan display is horrible with microscopic text size that renders it useless to navigate. When hooked up to your car audio it does sound good but some music does not make it to your car dashboard. It is machined well which is all I can say.
I think most or all DAPs have a tiny screen, always a battle of making it pocket size vs something you really can read.
It’s really not about the tiny screen. It’s that the designers are trying too add too much in such a tiny real estate. I would trashed the album cover background with microscopic text and went with basic black background and a larger legible font.
I just bought the Japanese import of the Sony nw a306 (because the Japanese model has over 60x the power output of UK and US models) I have the Surfans f20, I love it, the only headphones I have are Sony ch720n to use with the f20. But I just bought some audio technica m50xbt2. What headphones do you recommend, I only use wired but want Bluetooth as an option. The a306 Japanese version hasn't arrived yet, I'm wondering if I should have waited for the Hiby R4 (and maybe try to get the Chinese model with the class AB amp) also my surfans f20 has no internal memory just microsd (I put a 128gb in it) also installed rockbox on the f20. Rockbox is amazing wondering if ill go back to the f20 just for rockbox lol.
I get what your saying about the power. For a wired headphone I would suggest the sony WH-1000XM5 amzn.to/4dR8HHf Its at a all time lowest price right now of $328 (msrp $400). For something less in price I suggest the Surfans IEM amzn.to/4aBWyD5 - Its under $100 - $79 atm. It doesnt go below $79 from what ive seen unless used and used earbuds or IEM are kinda gross lol.
@@TUXXREVIEWS Thanks I'll check out the xm5s, I do like Sony headphones and the ch720n have lasted me years. I'm hoping i don't regret the audio technica as they don't have anc. I got my maths wrong the Japanese version isn't 60+ times the power it's 31x the power of the Western a306, before the gains function is used. I had no idea Surfans made headphones, I don't own any IEMs so I'm definitely gonna have a look at them. Yeah someone has got to be a penny pincher to buy second hand IEMs lol.
I have read that the wired sound of the xm5s aren't as good as the Bluetooth bcs of some technicality in components. If you want plain balance sound get audio technica or any of the mixing headphones. The sony are more bassy and treble.
@@DaleonM4 Thank you for the advice, as far as headphones I have a lot to learn, so always appreciate any tips. I had just stayed with the surfans f20 and ch720 for so long I didn't consider anything else. I wasn't even going to try an android Dap at first, i kept looking for something with its own OS.. I did end up getting some Audio Technica msr7b the brown leather/gun metal ones and now have a fiio m15s. I think the hiby r4 is pretty nice too. I have been trying out iems a bit more too, as I always preferred over ear closed back earphones, I got some 7hz x crinacle zero 2, the crinacle tuning is very different, I think the kz zs10 pro x sound the best of the iems ive tried so far. But just today i ordered some simgot e500 as they sound like they could be interesting and were on sale, the construction quality and diy mod possibility seems really cool. The reviews were very mixed though.
I think you are spot on about Audio Technica, at first it felt strange going from the m50x bt2 to the msr7b and took a little adjusting, but the msr7b sound so great and i wouldn't ever go back, the fact they included 4.4mm and 3.5mm cables is very cool. Besides its too late now and i couldn't go back as i gave my nephew the m50x bt2's, he was over the moon lol.
Also I got the output of the Japanese nw a306 wrong its like 30 times more powerful than the UK/US version not 60 times lol.
I bought the Sony and had problems from day one. Kept freezing plus other issues. Same thing happened on the Sony A100 series. Just ordered this Surfans, so fingers crossed.
Surfans F20? I love mine
@@TUXXREVIEWS I've had the Surfans a few days now. Different set up from what I'm used to, but so far so good. Easy to add new music through the laptop too.
@@billclayton8930 I agree, its easy to use and adding music is a snap. I love all the detailed informaion if anything just wish the screen was bigger / more readable.
Hey bro do you use clear audio+ in the a306.
Im happy this is an option for the NW-A306 but... normally no - I have some rules and exceptions to this I will cover in upcoming video.
could you please tell me if Sony A306 is powerful enough to drive Sennheiser HD660S? If not, will I be able to use a type-c portal dac/amp like iBasso DCO5 through the Type-C connection of the player?
Thats a 150 ohm headset so personally I would use an amp. The volume goes to 120 and Itend to listen to it at 100-120. The base (power on) volume is 50 and thats too low for me using either IEM or headphones.
