  • This is a question that comes up a lot- do I need to test my gauge, what is the best way to do that, etc. Short and sweet answer, if you want something to come out the same size as the pattern writer's, test your gauge. This is more important for sweaters than shawls, and is affected by your knit/crochet style, the yarn you are using, etc. It is far easier to change your tools than to change how you knit.
