I suggest you add a secret room that just has a duck infront of a computer (1% of finding when entering a room and can only be found once) this duck can then be picked up and can be used as a little hat
Good idea, just it'll be good to disable the 1% chance before the first entrance as the player might be confused when he enters first time and this happens - might not try to enter the building again after such experience
I like the idea. Could eventually lead to know that the underwater is also corrupted. Not sure how je would implement underwater gameplay or maps. But fishes landing on the beach and corrupt stuff there is a really good idea.
It would be cool to have a main island where everything is scripted and there are the shops and a town then you go out on expeditions to purify randomly and infinitely generated corrupted islands
Maybe instead of pressing E, you have it to where you hover the mouse over the fisherman, and click and then different options to talk to him about appear next to him, and you click one of those options.
I have 2 suggestions 1: Day and Night: I feel like a game like this should change time and you could even add a sunset 2: Sitting: I don’t know why but I feel like sitting also fits this game. Just thinking about the character sitting on a beach sounds right.
How much do you know about music? The fisherman's hut theme has a great groove but then you have a triplet marimba line over that and it's really interesting. I love that kind of rhythmic complexity
What if before you were able to buy from the store, you had to save the fishermen because he got corrupted. It would make sense because the beach is corrupted.
Or maybe he could sell you stuff when you defeat the Horror crab bc he was hiding from the crab outside so when you defeat the crab he starts showing up and selling stuff
Yooo! Awesome job on the vid, like always :) Your content consistently gets better and better. You had me hooked when I first got introduced to you via Blink. Keep up the grind my good dude! I hope to be a great content creator like you one day. Cheers! :)
You could add a collectible in which the player has to find and gather the shrimp we've donated, then you could have an extra room/menu where the player can view all the shrimp they've found and see the names of the shrimp and the names of people who donated them
Honestly, the music sound great! Also, here's an idea for the game: If you get corrupted by other corrupted creatures, you will corrupt any non corrupted creature you get close to.
I just had a very cool idea! For the shopkeepers song, it can be a calmer, toned down version of a song that plays on the island! So you can really get the feeling of how cozy it is in there
Ooh, it would be hilarious to let the player buy fishing equipment, and then give a little notification to the player asking, "why did you buy that? This isn't a fishing simulator. Sell it back." and then the shop owner won't give a refund.
For music, you should have different themes for different times, kind of like animal crossing!! Also you should implement a time system. If fishing is a big part of the game, then you should be able to only catch certain fish at night time and vice versa. Love this series!! Keep grinding man!!!!!!!
Hey, I just wanted to say that I really look up to you. I'm a college computer science freshmen who recently started game dev. You're in the exact position that I want to be in in the future. Keep it up man.
I found it is always convenient to be able to see the past dialogue e.g. via a script that gets updated. Sometimes you just don't really read and after the dialogue you realised it was something important.
I’m so happy you didn’t do the text style where it starts from the center and shifts left as more texts appear. Because it’s unreadable when it’s shifting. Also, if the fishermen shop theme is changed, the original must be some Easter egg somewhere in the game.
I think you should change the fishermans (npc) hut to like a beach hut you would normally see at the beach. It would be on like suport beams in the air (not to high) and there are stairs going to the door. Mabye there could also be a bit of sand on the stairs as if other people have been there and left sand on the stairs from when they were going in (cause its on the beach) I just thought that was a cool idea, i dont intend it to get added to the game but really would enjoy if it did! Even if it doesnt, keep it up! (the series) i really enjoy these videos and i hope to see more!
Fisherman shouldn't hang out in the hut, you should have to go get him from the beach where he's fishing, because no fisherman I know would sit around inside watinig for customers while there is fishing to be done right outside.
I LOVE the devlogs. I wish you could post more frequently, but the quality of these are so good I don't want you to rush them. Your pixel art style is super clean and unique and I'm loving watching this game come to life. Keep up the great work!
Love your work, as always. Digging the first cut of your music, and keen to hear more about video game music theory as you progress. Your interaction mechanic could now be used to handle entering the hut as well as engaging in dialog, however I also like the simplicity of just walking through the door, like you already do through the caves, so i'd say just leave it as is! My next devlog will be up in just a few days, and have definitely improved on my lighting since we last spoke! Hope you can check it out :)
Your first music track is really good for someone who's never composed before, I'd say it really fits what you intend to use it for and wouldn't mind hearing it in the final game. Dialogue system seems to be coming along really well too. Great job on this one, will be looking forward to your future devlogs!
You might wanna add camera constraints to the shop scene so that half of the scene isn't empty void and players can appreciate your fantastic art work. Great job with the game so far it looks great!
Great to see the progression of the game as always, I feel like my project is pretty much around the same progression as yours and I personally like comparing the progress in the month heh. Been loving the series, you are a big inspo and your tips really have changed my life for the better. Keep it up
Good thing you don't rush the work to upload a video I totally recommend it because it's your dream game after all , you have to do it right :) The music is very good as a first try 👍🏻
I think the shop theme music sounds great! As creators we tend to focus on the flaws of our work, but don’t let that stop you! And even if it’s not perfect, you will only improve as you move on to write the other themes in the game. Good work and good luck!
I am sure you already are aware of this, but to me, you fisherman's hut kind of looks like it is floating. Maybe adding some kind of shadow will make it look more natural. Or you could have sand on the side of the building. Great work on the inside. It looks great!
Your first attempt at music is honestly great man! You've got a great ear for music! I'm a composer myself working on a score for a game I'm on the team for, I'm also doing the sound design for that, and if you ever just want to talk music or sound design or anything like that I'd love to chat with ya, cause tbh that shop theme is pretty great as it is. All I think it needs are some counter melodies and it's very usable.
That's a great piece of music for the shop. Really cool that it was your first attempt at making music. My first track was nowhere near that good. I've watched quite a bit of Andrew Huang myself.
I'd love to see the camera move and centre on the fisherman's hut when your character gets close to the shack. @6:02 highlights this best - you don't get a full view of the shack until your character is already walking through the door, then we get a fadeout. Short of zooming out so the player can understand their surroundings more, you could add a proximity-based camera movement so the camera lerps in; then, when the character moves out of range, it lerps back to the character. You could even re-use the interaction manager you set up for such a purpose!
Thats the kind of game, i am searching for a long time! Years ago there was a Game called "Driodcraft" and "Pigeoncraft" in Appstore. But it never was finished. Your game looks gorgeous and i am looking forward to get it as soon as it will be released! Nice work and good luck at troubleshooting!
The shop theme sounds great! Good job on it. If you can whip up music like that on your first try, you will probably be able to make the whole sound track without breaking a sweat.
Music really fits the theme of that shop/ petrol station vibe! I recommend having a look at a channel called shady cicada, as he creates predominantly video game music through various challenges and I find his melodies and his style of creating music really inspiring. Keep up the good work on the game man!
I suggest you add a secret room that just has a duck infront of a computer (1% of finding when entering a room and can only be found once) this duck can then be picked up and can be used as a little hat
Yes,YES, YES!
Genius
I honestly applaud you
Good idea, just it'll be good to disable the 1% chance before the first entrance as the player might be confused when he enters first time and this happens - might not try to enter the building again after such experience
And you can glide
I think 1% is a little bit high, maybe like 0.511
In the hut you can have a fish tank with shrimps naned after the real shrimps that people have sponsored
Good idea!
Great idea
Yes
Inside the fishermans hut, you should put up a mounted fish on the wall, to fill in empty space on the back wall.
Yes!
Agree !!
You should add beached fish that corrupts animals when they get close. You need to clean them up.
You could also add minions for the boss.
Well, the crabs are kinda the minions.
Crabs that stick with the boss
I like the idea. Could eventually lead to know that the underwater is also corrupted. Not sure how je would implement underwater gameplay or maps. But fishes landing on the beach and corrupt stuff there is a really good idea.
Castafiel, perhaps scuba diving and then eventually a submarine or something?
It would be cool to have a main island where everything is scripted and there are the shops and a town then you go out on expeditions to purify randomly and infinitely generated corrupted islands
That's kinda the plan!
@@DevDuck lore leaked??
DevDuck what if you could find old ship’s and you have to travel tough them and fight a mini boss then the islands will be a little safer
@@turtleguy1679 he's laid out this plan in previous videos with the proc gen caves
that would be so awesome
can't wait to actually play it
Me too!!
Same here, it'll be a masterpiece of a game
TRUE
Same
Me too
YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT AT MUSIC? That's an awesome song for the first time!!
I agree it be groovy
my first attempt was pretty bad ngl
I think the fisherman deserves a chair, he's old we don't want him standing the whole time
agreed
^^^
awwww
Agreed
Maybe instead of pressing E, you have it to where you hover the mouse over the fisherman, and click and then different options to talk to him about appear next to him, and you click one of those options.
I thought about this. Ultimately I thought this approach would be easier to map to controller support. But still keeping an open mind!
Roddy or Rod would be a cool name for the fisherman
Yeah maybe Peter Rod ..??
Or willy
Roddy and his pet rod “Rod”. If you ask his naming of the pet. He would say.
“You don`t like it? What would YOU name a ROD?”
Bobrod
Yes new video! 👌👌👌👌👌Thank you!!
I have 2 suggestions
1: Day and Night: I feel like a game like this should change time and you could even add a sunset
2: Sitting: I don’t know why but I feel like sitting also fits this game. Just thinking about the character sitting on a beach sounds right.
Day / night and weather is definitely happening!
DevDuck Cool!
I noticed the similarities to Willy’s hut straight away!! Stardew Valley is one of my favourite games - excited to see Dauphin come to fruition!
That's what I thought too! It's almost exactly the same!
Damn that's a good idea
Maybe he could be a mini-boss
Also, the fisherman would prefer being outside fishing anyway.
Or maybe he could sell you stuff when you defeat the Horror crab bc he was hiding from the crab outside so when you defeat the crab he starts showing up and selling stuff
@@TheFaithfulAnon Or , you can trade with him with a special drop from the horror crab for a reward !!

@@LeaferBag Thanks man! I definitely appreciate it!!

I just had a very cool idea! For the shopkeepers song, it can be a calmer, toned down version of a song that plays on the island! So you can really get the feeling of how cozy it is in there
If you end up making a fishing feature, you should add a canoe and be able to fight corrupted fish!
and as the player progresses through the game, the chance of encountering corrupted fish is less.
Ooh, it would be hilarious to let the player buy fishing equipment, and then give a little notification to the player asking, "why did you buy that? This isn't a fishing simulator. Sell it back." and then the shop owner won't give a refund.
What if the giant fish is the final boss and that's what started the corruption spreading?
Different music for different scenes would be a task worth doing. For the cave maybe a spooky sound track. And what you have for the beach works 👌🏼
I love the progress on the game, and congrats for 100K!
Excuse me?! Can I speak to your interaction manager?!
Sorry for the corny joke
how dare you! you "triggered" me. i'll have to "Launch" a complaint

Idea for the end: you discover the corruption came from your own trash. This shows you that changing the world starts with changing yourself.
