  • A quick and dirty video demonstrating Wheels 128 v4.4 (aka Geos 4) running directly from a uIEC/CF (compact flash reader), on my Commodore 128 Tower with SuperCPU 128. In the future I will do other videos focusing more on specific uses and specific software. This video is simply proof of Wheels running from he uIEC. Geos and Wheels support to the sd2iec firmware is thanks to a completed bounty of Commodore Bounty and the efforts of programmer Ingo Korb.

I managed to run Geos only once on my Commodore. I have a final cartridge III, with Basic and some other stuff on it. My floppy discs or the drive is messed up, takes ages for a game/program to load. But I love this machine! Favorite game : Crillion :D

uhh all commodore IEC drives were slow. You can use a commodore PET drive, those drives use IEEE-488 instead of IEC which is alot faster but you need a special cartridge for that. I recommend installing JiffyDOS on both the computed and the drive

Any new games coming out for the 128 in 2020?

The uIEC connects like a floppy drive. Why would you ask if this is an emulator when I explained in the description what the setup used was?

I have the RGBi converted to S-Video and captured it with a PC TV card.

There was a ton of information on the 128 Alive forum which seems gone now. Google commodore 128 rgbi converter.

How do you capture video from the RGBI port?

I used geos on my com 128 with a ribbon dot matrix printer which was great for the time I went to K mart and got the last ribbon cart for the printer think I had a hp or something that thing lasted forever and then i got ink jet and it was crap cheap ink runs out or dries up total useless piece of crap so now don't use printers at all.

That would require a 386 level CPU or higher.

Get a copy of GeoPublish to test it out. I used that as my first DTP program in '88 on the C64. Very slow but wondering how it'd run on a 128.

How did you get Wheels to recognize the uIEC. I have this drive. Connected it but Wheels does not see it.

You need to use disk images with in. For CMD hard drive simulation, you need to use a DNP image. I'd suggest Lemon64.com Forums for questions now that Commodore Bounty is defunct.

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware on your uIEC.

I would get a message saying "can find REU Bank" cannot install, what do this mean?

    • @redrumloa

What image or floppy are you using? Sounds like you are trying to a preconfigured install on a system with a different configuration. It sounds like it is looking for an REU (RAM Expansion Unit, original Commodore or clone).
Then again, Wheels requires a minimum of a RAM expansion of some sort. You could be using a virgin disk on a stock system and maybe get this error. I've never tried on a stock system, because I know it requires at least a RAM expansion.

@@jimbaker2152 Geos 2.0 should not need an REU. You need a virgin (unkeyed) disk image.
