"We decided to call the amplifier Orange. We painted the shop orange, it was my favorite colour." My kindred spirit hahahahaha Thanks for everything, Mr. Cooper! Your amps are fucking amazing, love'em
Speaking as a graphic designer, Orange is probably the coolest looking of all the famous amp brands. You know you've designed an iconic logo when it hasn't really been changed for 50 years. That's quite an achievement!
*Hughes & Kettner is typing...* 😂 honestly, each brand has their own mojo n look, though orange colored amps do make an big unmistakable statement heh.
This man...such a wonderful gentleman. I had the wonderful opportunity to interview him at NAMM for Orange's 50th Anniversary and he could not have been kinder and more thankful for my being there. I have been using Orange amps predominantly for the last 10 years of my life and when he found out he was so happy to know his amplifiers were my choice. He still feels that excitement knowing his products are loved. He's a wonderful man and a bright spot in this world.
Couldn't agree more! It was a pleasure to chat with him, and very inspiring that he's stayed so humble in spite of his incredible contributions to music.
I want a complete video series on the history of Orange. Mr. Cooper is a treasure trove of knowledge and has made an iconic line of amplifiers that proudly stand alongside Vox and Marshall.
Paco Elizalde there’s a disconnect here, i want to buy an amp from this guy, but i find the brand image/marketing obnoxious and hugely unlikeable. I’m sticking with engl and mesa.
The Orange OR15 is one of the best vintage-voiced rock amps you can get. Lightweight and very affordable at around $699 USD. I love that juicy orange! Great video featuring a living legend!
Steve Herb I have one too and l love it but like the tiny terror more at low volumes. The OR15 needs turned up a bit but the tiny terror still sounds like it's turned up when its down low. Maybe the way that dual gang gain pot hits the power tubes and not having any tone stack in the preamp opens it up more. The tone on the tiny terro is on the power section and only cuts. THe OR 15 has the treble middle bass tone section and is why it needs to be turned up more than the tiny terror. At least that's been my experience at super low bedroom volumes. I hate living in an apt.
These are the best amps in my opinion. Yes, yes, Marshall is great. I like the classic-y tones of one, I like Blackstar to match my newfound metal side, but Orange stays diverse and deep, matching perfectly with my classic rock, punk, and metal taste. I love Orange amps, and I hope to buy a bigger one soon. I have a Crush 20.
This brings it all back . I had a band in 69 ,we recorded two tracks in the basement studio. I put my SG Special through a 120 head with 4x12 cab . It ripped the room up!! . I think they had the mixer from Joe Meek's studio .Fleetwood mac were in the shop on the same day also . Great times . Thanks Mr Cooper
I just bought my first Orange Amplifier. I'm very happy. I am more educated with respect to Fender amps (boooo big time) and Marshall (what have they done) but have in my quest discovered a pure, wonderful clean clarity in a simplified and effective design, the Orange Amp. Love it! Amazing that the clean tone of a single channel tube amp would be superior to any of the so called 'tone monster' amps. Finally, the gain is superior to any amp gain on any of the gain monster amps.
Cliff, thank you, thank you for your time and history lesson of one of the best amps. I just have the Orange Crush Mini 3W but they're gonna get bigger. So good to see you're doin ok. Congrats on 50 years!...
Met Cliff probably 17-18 years ago at NAMM. One of the nicest, most sincere chaps I’ve met. I love the original valve amps they made. Even back in the early 70’s I wanted one..
Could have had a Orange Matamp for $350 back in the early 90's but 8 didn't know what I had been looking at until my room mate put on a video of The Song Remains the Same. As Zep plows through the set I notice an amp I'd seen. I tell my mate I'd recently seen an amp exactly like the amp on the far right of Jimmy's set up. My friend went nuts telling me we have to go and see if it was still there! It was gone :.(
@Reverb Are the sounds the actual amps being played when they are shown and talked about? If so the earlier Matamp Orange sounds more looser/warmer and the "pics only" OR120 sounds tighter and slightly brighter a little closer to Marshall but still warm and fat too. I have a 72 pics only OR120 but would love a Matamp Orange like the white one he's playing in the beginning of the video. They should make a reissue of that amp down to the exact circuit and transformers etc . and while they are at it make the big 200 watt Orange Matamp with KT88's!
I would hug this man and thank him so much for his brilliant mind and hardwork because I had to work hard to own a solid state Crush Pro 120 in black and as a death metal guitarist I always fell in love since the first day I listened and played through a orange cab 🍊🖤
I love my orange amps! First ever amp I fell in love with was my orange crush 12. I traded a spider line 6 (yuck) for it and never looked back. Rock on and thank you Cliff you absolute legend 🤘
I think I know the secret to his company's success: he hypnotizes people into buying Orange amps with his calm soothing voice. (Also, it helps that the amps kick ass, too.)
Hella pleased with my Rocker 15. Thank you for what you do. Keep producing quality and never compromise like Gibson and Fender and many other companies have done!
From the small clips and comparing the sound of the Matamp version here to the Pics Only OR120 I think the OR120 sounds a bit tighter on the bottom and more focused in the mids maybe? More mid pucnh and less wooley? Anyone else hear that? I think I like the pics only OR120 better but the clips are so short it's hard to hear really. I have hear people say the Matamp version doesn't get quite as gainy as the pics only or later and the Matamp has more of a hifi sound whatever that means I'm not quite sure. I do like the slightly tighter bottom and punch of the mids on the pics only OR120 and and I think they got even gainier as time went on each year but again I'm ot 100% sure. If anyone knows these amps I would love to hear your take on the tone and sound differences. Thanks!
Good to finally see the man that started Orange! They’ve always been a somewhat faceless company to me, so it’s great to finally see and hear Mr. Orange. 😉
Yeah, the GT120 is a beast. I have the Matamp GT1 mkII which has a defeatable Master Volume which will turn it into pretty much a GT120 (GTO). Great amp, really good if you want to go for that Stoner / Doom sound.
Hey seems like he’d be absolutely lovely to do brunch with. My wife doesn’t play guitar and thoroughly enjoyed this video because he seems like such a kind man. If you ever wind up in Charleston, I’ll take you to breakfast!
Had the or120 overdrive with rare 6 12 cab best amp I ever owned bought it in Baltimore in 1974 had a Or 80 as well used with a Marshall B cab from early 70s with 20 watt greenbacks that head kept blowing the speakers out
I would love to meet Cliff, he would be so cool to talk to and hear all the stories of his career and everything especially in the 60’s-70’s I’m 14 and my dream amp is an Orange Matamp OR-100/OR-200 and cliff is a super cool dude in my books, thanks man for all the amazing things you’ve done for music, From Paul Kossoff and Jimmy Page to Sleep and Sabbath (before anyone argues with me Tony Iommi used Matamps for a time) you’ve flipped music on its head may we have many more years with you YOUR A LEGEND
Dang I'll have to make a demo of my Jimmy Bean half stack some day soon! It IS a great sounding amp, but well, not THE BEST. I prefer the HH ones. Stay tuned!
I got a combo bass amp will wil buy a tube bass amp in the future. I did them! A little less treble because no horn in my combo. But with a proper cabinet, it sounds great!
I love my orange amp and epiphone sg standard guitar I playing blues rock and hard rock muisc my favorite bands is led zeppelin and deep purple and the doors.
Well what can u say competition breeds innovation and improvements....its healthy....I'm a marshall guy but I dig orange....they all have that same type of saturated tone..... nothing wrong with that either lol
Damn this dude has one of the most soothing voices I've ever heard
and ironically created some of the gnarliest amps ever!
J Grenda * So soothing that I could listen to him narrate "Atlas shrugged" all night.
Typical nice old boy from the south of England. Easy going humility and politeness are one of the key characteristics of us Brits.
He's Sir David Attenborough's brother.
I am joking, but he's on that level of calm.
I can listen this man all day
"We decided to call the amplifier Orange. We painted the shop orange, it was my favorite colour." My kindred spirit hahahahaha Thanks for everything, Mr. Cooper! Your amps are fucking amazing, love'em

MachineGunManUFMS CLIFF COOPER=CC=33 orange is his favorite color (FREEMASON CONFIRMED)
Buddha Stalin- We are in agreement. Jimmy Bean most likely hits as well. Too lazy to download the calculator lol
@@grant5603 Typical British superiority complex.
Speaking as a graphic designer, Orange is probably the coolest looking of all the famous amp brands. You know you've designed an iconic logo when it hasn't really been changed for 50 years. That's quite an achievement!
And in the middle of a stack of black amplifiers, Orange always pops out and is instantly recognizable!
Yes, that was a stroke of genius :-)
*Hughes & Kettner is typing...*
😂 honestly, each brand has their own mojo n look, though orange colored amps do make an big unmistakable statement heh.
I think they look the coolest but.they sound the worst. But that's just me I'm not into.that sound doesnt mean it's a bad sound just notnfor.me
As a comic book artist I agree.
This man...such a wonderful gentleman. I had the wonderful opportunity to interview him at NAMM for Orange's 50th Anniversary and he could not have been kinder and more thankful for my being there. a rarity in this business for sure
Btw, you did a great job, you showed him great respect, let him know you're a fan, nd gave him an excellent interview, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
TheMighty B that’s really kind of you man. Thank you! It really was an ABSOLUTE HONOR for me. Without his company I wouldn’t have my sound.
What a wholesome guy
I want a complete video series on the history of Orange. Mr. Cooper is a treasure trove of knowledge and has made an iconic line of amplifiers that proudly stand alongside Vox and Marshall.
For a brand that has amps with great distorted sounds, this guy has a really soothing voice
...because there should be a correlation between those things 😕
Get this man to explain how a tube guitar amplifier works. He's a joy to listen to!
This is the most British man alive.
Watch their in house engineer Ade and you will eat your words!
Hold my James May...
What about actor Michael Caine?
Mr. BEAN. Rowan
Sir David Attenborough.
Sir Michael Kaine.
I can find more, but you get the point.:P
Now I want to buy an orange amp this man is great!

I just bought an Orange PPC412! rock n roll !
Absolutely legendary. He’s the David Attenborough of music and rock, haha.
We need a weekly hour show with Mr. Cooper telling stories.
That would be amazing!!!!!

How does a conversation between Cliff and Brent Hinds go? A sit down with a nice cup of tea and a chat?
If in the world there would be more people like this guy it would be a better place.
Orange Amps were always a part of Radio Bremen's Musikladen shows!
Great video!! It is awesome to hear the history from the owner of the Orange company. Such awesome history. I'd love to own one someday.
Nailed it with the lunchbox amp concept. Look what that did to the amplifier market.
Is there an extended version of this wow
This guy does not seem like he would survive the cut-throat world of running an International business! Legend.
I have always wanted an Orange Matamp. Some day...
Any luck?

Funny the such a mellow-mannered guy would make powerful rock amplifiers!
