How to connect NZXT F120 and F140 Core RGB Fans

- In this video I'm showing the wiring logic for NZXT F120 and F140 RGB Core fans. From how to connect a single fan to what to do when you have three, four, five, six or more NZXT Core RGB fans to install in your system.
There are various things to keep in mind here as the fans have both RGB and fan power connections, so you need the right connectors to get everything working.
The standard NZXT F120 and F140 RGB Core fan packs come with an RGB controller that you can use to connect the fans RGB up to. This then connects to SATA power on your PSU and the USB header on your motherboard.
These controllers are only designed for three fans though, so you'll soon find if you're adding loads of fans that you're going to run into problems where you need more USB headers. The solution there is a USB splitter (link below).
It's also worth noting that it's a lot easier if you use the NZXT fan controller. There's a V2 of this controller that allows for connection of up to 9 of these NZXT Core fans in terms of power connections which makes life a lot easier when wiring these. It's an additional purchase but well worth getting in my opinion.
I'm also going to show you how to connect these fans to your all in one controller too!

Original controller:
Used for AER series fans (EOL)
Can be used for F series RGB fans, but only connect 2
Can be used for Duo RGB fans, but only connect 2
Gen 3 controller (launched with H7):
Used for for AER series fans (EOL)
Used for F series RGB fans
Used for Duo RGB fans
Original Controller:
PWM: 9 fans via the 1 to 3 splitter (3 fans per Channel)
RGB: - AER RGB 2 up to 10 fans, max. 5 per Channel (Daisy Chain)
- F RGB and F RGB DUO up to 2 fans, 1 per Channel
New Controller:
PWM: 9 fans via the 1 to 3 splitter (3 fans per Channel)
RGB: - AER RGB 2 up to 15 fans, max. 5 per Channel (Daisy Chain)
- F RGB and F RGB DUO up to 6 fans, 1 per Channel

@@TheProvokedPrawn hey thanks for responding, I don’t know if I want to install a radiator in my h9 flow on the top or the side, I will probably do the top but if I can do a push/pull on the side I would probably do that, if I can do that would the radiator (without the fans) be in the back side of the case or will it be visible. Quick question, can the nzxt fan rgb controller be used on it there fans? Like the ekwb ek fan loop 120/140mm fans?
So im following a similar build in the H9 Flow... the controllers that come with the 3 pack of fans, if im following the video right... i can use those and plug it into the main NZXT hub for RGB? Using F120 rgb duo.

Hey! Thank you for the video, I think you're one of the few that provides much needed information about NZXT's F120 fans. Am I able to split 6 fans using 2x(3way4pin) cablesplitters to 1x(2way4pin) cable splitter and connect it to the CPU_FAN1? My motherboards CPU_FAN1 supports 2amps and 24 watts. It's the Mag z790 Tomahawk wifi. I'm just trying to wrap my head around connecting all 13 fans

I’ve got 9 NZXT rgb core fans connected to their seperate rgb hubs, each rgb hub is connected to an NZXT internal usb hub that is then connected to the usb header on my mobo. I have full rgb control but I can’t figure out how to control the fan speeds? I can only control the cpu fan speed in CAM but msi afterburner doesn’t doesn’t do anything. Any ideas??

i agree with you mate, did my pc build based with the legacy AER fans last year, each fans had an extra port for daisy chain/to interconnect with each other, way better than this, they made it more complicated with the rgb controller....

You wouldn't want to run 9 fans on one header. It wouldn't have enough power. You'll need a Powered fan controller

Hello, i have 2 rgb duo nzxt fans and nzxt hub controller as you showed in your video, i connected all of them right and nzxt cam detect both fan control and rgb lighting, my fans are spinning, but they dont light, i deleted all other rgb softwares and reinstalled my pc, but they still don’t light, do you have any ideas why ? That's a strange problem. Especially if they're being detected by the software. You can't change or adjust the lighting in the software at all?

I have the H7 Flow RGB case that came with the 3 front 140 rgbs and the non rgb in the rear. I purchased another F140 core RGB, can I connect it to the other 3 fans? I have the MSI B650 MB which only has 2 ARGB and 2 RGB. I might be doing something wrong but the fan works but no rgb. It was working but I didconnected a few things and now it wont light up. note: This is my first PC build

@@Ksully-nb3yp No! I ended up returning the RGB fan. I found out that there were not enough connections on my MB and that I needed the controller in order to dongle the fan to the others which I didnt purchase.

Nah man, that's where they get ya. You have to purchase the 6 RGB controller with the fan plugin. Just added more fans to mine and I didn't even think of it until now

i dont think u can sync the lights, i have lian li fans with 3 nzxt fans
If u do get two separate brand fans u might need a sata cable splitter if u wanna plug in another rgb controller to the rgb or just get fan splitter. I have a nzxt 360 aio and the rgb don’t come on unless I get another splitter for another rgb controller

Hey I've got a question Mr Prawn. If I've got a prebuilt PC with pre installed RGB fans connected to a button (changes light colors) on my case, what will happen when I press the button if I swap those fans for new ones?

@@TheProvokedPrawn Yes, I even have noctua PWM fans and they work. The F140 Core turn on, I can change the rgb but I don't see the RPM, I can't change the speeds either
Just a small side note: Please stop praising the Lian Li fans. I have a total of 4x Lian Li Uni Fan SL-INF 120 ARGB PWM cleanly installed in my new computer, at low speeds. Within only 3 weeks I already have 2 broken fans - sudden rattling, noise, no longer usable. While other Noctua fans have been running without problems for years. These things must be of sub-par quality.
I've never had any problems with Lian Li fans and can only speak to my experience. They're in my main machine and have always been, with zero issues.
@@TheProvokedPrawn In the years I've had a TON of different fans from many brands. But I never made the experience that fans fail within only a few weeks of use. 2 brandnew Lian Li fans failing like this - with the same kind of damage. Under these circumstances, I really don't believe in a stupid coincidence, but in poor quality. Well, lesson learned. :) Back to Noctua or BeQuiet. No more RGB nonsense.
@@tannhaeuserBeQuiet makes some lovely RGB fans nowadays. Ring lit too, not the cheap looking diffusion lighting
i have 6 lian li fans, one stopped working for like a couple days and it fixed itself but never clicked or made any sounds before
too many wires...i like the lego blocks of D30 from phanteks, it makes the fans look so clean when multiples are installed...
