A Fight for the Land

- The city of Lawrence, Kansas wants to build a trafficway through an area of wetlands south of the Haskell Indian Nations University campus. The students of Haskell have filed a lawsuit temporarily blocking the trafficway, but the state is still looking for ways to get around it. The area is considered historic to the school and to alumni and students. This fight is not new though as many tribes are fighting state, local and federal governments to keep lands they consider sacred from being developed. From the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona, to the Comanche in Oklahoma where they want to build a base in a place they pray, to building nucleaur repositories in the Moutains in Nevada, Native American lands are consistently being taken for uses that destroy their uniqueness. This video is dedicated to all those who fight for their lands and those students at Haskell who consistently keep that fight going to the next group of students who come through. Thank you for working on this video. It is important that all sides are represented, but especially important that we understand the historical and cultural significance. I ran across the story for this video on the KU website, I only hope that more people will also see the link and want to become active in saving the wetlands.
my prayer is that the ones who are distroying the lands who are unaware will find we are the land so they stop distroying the earth and us
Poland had the Rospuda Valley, you've got your beautiful and important land.I hope that all ignorants will keep away from the area. All the best. You're doing good, brave job.

I grew up in Lawrence, KS and can tell ya that this has been going on for the last 25 years. The developers have taken over Lawrence and will probably get their way eventually. It's a shame!
thumbs up!
good job and good luck
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Yes they are building a WALMART on/in ours right by the river in the area that is the traffic way for the geese and ducks and migrating birds they say they can go up river... ya sure thousands of years of natural direction what will they give them a street sign. This sort of thing makes me sick!!!
I hope that this does not happen here!
My Older Sister and My Brother went to haskell.
My sister now live in Lawrence. This is wrong. Haskell Will Win, We Got A Nation Behind The School, and Noone can silence us or the school.
I will have to say good luck protecting the wetlands.
that sucks!!... well at least people will get to walmart faster...
God bless the native peoples of the continent of Anahuac.. Stop the zits Now, they have already stolen enough. !
Okay, well that's just wrong! They can't build a trafficway there!
I hope we we win this fight.
