  • When GG Allin was in Tampa back in 1991, we spent a lot of time hanging around the house. He was in town making Carnival of Excess, among other things. We were working, drinking and always had music playing in the background. People have asked about what we listened to. Here is a top ten list f some of the albums. Understand that this is not, by any means, a complete list, just ten of the highlights. GG was really knowledgeable about all genres of music and liked a lot of different styles. The footage of him strumming the acoustic guitar is from my living room. It was a long boozy week.

    I’m not too surprised by Bob Marley! Most early punk artists especially the UK ones were inspired by Jamaican music genres & as someone with a Jamaican parent myself I gotta say despite most of it being very different in terms of sound a lot of the topics are usually pretty rebellious and align with personal freedom. I’m not shocked GG had such a cool taste.

    Fun video, not often you get to hear more in depth about the music he actually liked. Towards the end he claimed to hate everything except what he was doing, but I always figured it was him speaking for effect.
    One thing, though, I truly wish he had recorded his cover of "Pick Me Up" in a studio. I love the raw impromptu cover that was recorded, but that song was even more perfect for him than Carmelita in my opinion.

    • @ponkmedia
      @ponkmedia  3 місяці тому
