I just can't get enough of his soothing voice or of his life. Very endearing and heart breaking. How I would love to see a true to life movie about Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's life, starting with his parents, siblings, his music and his wife and child. Such a special person. May God bless his family and one day, I hope to meet him in Heaven too.

I have a son that is due this coming July. We went and got a 3D ultrasound and the song "somewhere over the rainbow" was on the dvd that they gave us. I feel in love with the way he sang the song so I decided to look him up today. I am sad to find out that IZ has passed away. Almost 14 years after his death he is still getting new fans.

Iz had a thyroid disease and heart problems from a very early age that made him gain weight, which in turn brought on diabetes. Look past the outside and see what was within him. He was pure gold and starlight. Such a beautiful soul inside an even more beautiful person. I wish I had been blessed to have seen him before he walked on to the ancestors but I know that I will meet him on the other side one day.
There been many people with great music and voices but "IZ" is for me the greatest... His talent surpass the many of our days. He is alive in heart and spirit....

I heard part of this song on some commercial or something and went right to youtube to find it. Am so glad I did. I found my new obsession. I just wish this guy was able to stay around with us to make more music. I would buy any album he put out. Would loved to have met him just from what people say and the way his music comes out. So many Hawaiians came to the northwest coast (of Canada) in the 19th century, and intermarried with Indigenous peoples here. All my family's people were fishermen and women, and before the fishery ended here in the 1990s, many many of the fishermen spent a lot of winters in Hawaii, and felt very at home there. I have loved travelling there, and felt so at home with the Islanders. Pacific water people. xo

I was stationed in Hawaii in the late 70's. Unfortunately I did not meet or even know about IZ. He is truly amazing. I can listen to his music over and over and feel so peaceful. My wife and I just went to Hawaii a few months ago and I made a video of some of the pics we took while we were over there. I put (In this Life) another song from IZ with the video and it came out amazing. His music is just perfect for a video of Hawaii. RIP You were truly a great performer.

The glandular disorder made all his family overweight which contributed to heart and lung problems. And they all died young.
We all come here with something to give, and something to overcome. His gift was music, and his challenge obesity. He failed on the second. His soul lives on, and will overcome this challenge in another life.

I can't believe he did not get the recognition he deserved when he lived. He is a wonderful man both for promoting his heritage beautifully and for his gorgeous singing voice which lulls me into remembering why life is, overall, good. He is a role model to me.

I can't believe he did not get the recognition he deserved when he lived. He is a wonderful man both for promoting his heritage beautifully and for his gorgeous singing voice which lulls me into remembering why life is, overall, good. He is a role model to me.
