- In 2024, LEGO introduced a new LEGO Hogwarts Castle system that is set to make the biggest and most detailed Hogwarts Castle ever. In it's first year, five different sets were released and here is how they look combined so far.

This is probably one of the biggest and most real problems with the Lego hobby. Not just that it is expensive, or the massive amount of sets that come out which is really hard to keep up with. Not even finding a neat and effective way to store lego bricks .. the hardest task is finding enough display space for completed builds.
Even if sets have a shape that is not too big and standard (like a 32x32 baseplate), you still need some kind of shelve, table or windowsill to put them. Not everyone has a spare room to use for hobbies like Lego.

I’m looking forward to how the 2024 Advent Calendar works with the Great Hall. I’m also putting together the Forbidden Forest, Aragon, and poly bag Draco set for a nice forest scene behind Hagrid’s Hut. I love that the sets are focusing on earlier films/books, which are my personal favorite.
Now all we need is a Death Star that u can buy room by room, set by set until u have the whole thing

They need to be on the shelves for quite some time, but yea ... it would be awesome. Technically, if they release a massive death star for an insane price, we can also save up that money over time and buy that huge set, but this sounds much more fun. You can even skip sets that you feel are not great and make your own instead.

I'm surprised I haven't seen people mention it - but I'm pretty sure this new system is turning out to mimic the Hogwarts grounds microscale set that's out right now. Including the durmstang ship and all. I'm hopeful we are finally going to get greenhouses set based on this idea. It seems they are breaking up that microscale model into playscale sets.
I’m hoping they are! I already had the idea in mind that I would replicate the format and details of the microscale, including the trans lake, the wave stand of the Durmstrang, etc.

@@artasticcrafts337 the only other system of castle sets that has tried to replicate the actual look of the in universe castle is the last system - and that one involved a lot of rearranging and taking apart and wasn't a perfect fit
Definitely a cool castle! I don't think I'll be picking this up this year, but I can't wait to see what Lego does with it!

Ngl, I can’t wait to get purchase this set. However, I do agree about the part where you said that the set is incomplete. It doesn’t make sense since the Hufflepuff common room gets swapped with the potions class and the common room is left out with no other place to go in the set. They should’ve planned this more and shouldn’t have rushed a tiny bit. I’m thinking about doing an extension to this set to make it complete as well.
It looks even better with the new forbidden forest connected the Hagrid’s hut, and Ford Anglia right next to new Aragog

Great video holly the great hall is a very cool set and I think you would be a great gryffindor student at hogwarts and I would love to fly a broom
I recently got the Astronomy Tower for £22 off. Probably could have waited as it's now on sale on the Lego shop and I have a £20 insiders voucher to use. Fortunately there are other sets I can use it for. Possibly on the boat house or owl house.
Can imagine the combination of all these new HP sets coming together on a HP LEGO city-ish landscape 😌

I started playing Hogwarts: Legacy about a week and a half ago and I've fallen in love with Harry Potter all over again. It's awesome seeing the LEGO sets and then exploring that area of the castle in-game.

The 2018-2020 castle is still the best so far. Fairly priced, not excesive, and looked a lot like Hogwarts. The 2021 was ugly and this one is waaay too big...

Her and Ryan have kept it super private so far. They have to have been a thing for a while if she moved across the world to be together. But it is funny how they're both acting like nothing happened.

Great sets, I just wish they'd build the other side of the buildings, like the new Hagrid's hut set, fully enclosed. Just tired of the half buildings
Nah, you can only display one side so this way you get the choice of what you want on show, plus the price of the sets would skyrocket with all the extra pieces.
I'm going to need to take an another loan just to my wallet can afford this system when its all combined and finished
This is probably one of the best Hogwarts systems we've gotten in a while.
Picturing this as a first for newcomers is also heartwarming because this style of builds serves as a good middle ground for youngsters and adults (play and display, somewhat aligned).
If they keep on expanding in a similar way, combined price or random leftover builds might be massive detractors

Actually, the Hufflepuff common room is in the right position underneath the Great Hall. I'm going purely based on the Hogwarts Legacy map, but we haven't seen the Hufflepuff common room entrance anywhere else in the films. So it kind of makes sense and based on the positioning of where it is in the Great Hall set, it's reason to believe that yes, the Hufflepuff Common Room belongs right under there. Now, could they have done a more detailed version of the Common Room? Absolutely. Though I can understand they had a price budget, they didn't want to exceed. So, hopefully, they'll make another common room set that can be slotted in and is more detailed. But as it stands, I'm glad to have it, and I'm going to took out the bathroom because it's supposed to be on the first floor if I'm not mistaken.

Seeing the Boat House attached to the Great Hall makes me a bit icky. The clear discrepancy in scale is a bit too much for me. The Great Hall is far too small to match with that size of a Boat House (or the Boat House is far too big to fit with that Great Hall).
Which makes me wonder how they're going to main the Main Tower for the Castle...I would hate it is it was another small squished version like in that horrendous 2018 Great Hall set where everything looked like it was passed through a hydraulic press 😅 We'll see.
I decided to only get this new wave once Amazon discounts it. It all seems way overpriced for what it's actually offering...and June had better sets releasing like Notre Dame and Barad-Dûr.
People have made MOCs of 1:1 minifig-scale Hogwarts Castle. It's HUGE.
LEGO's stated objective with this new system is "build the most detailed Hogwarts Castle". From the initial wave of sets, its clear that the way they're planning to achieve that goal is by creating a movie-accurate Hogwarts layout like the two diorama sets, but scaled up to match the previous playscale systems.
I agree that, in pursuit of that objective, there are visible compromises between scale, affordability, and playability. The boathouse is already scaled down from how it appears in the movies and is about as small as it can be while still being minifig compatible. Conversely, the Great Hall is about as big as it can be as a play set. It's already twice the price of the 2018 set and is even a fair bump from the Chamber of Secrets set. If it were any larger, it would be more expensive and would be pushed firmly into the 18+ collectors price range.
If you want a Hogwarts display piece with proper scale, there are already two sets on the market. This new wave is a middle ground, being more detailed and movie accurate than the two previous systems, but maintaining playability over the diorama sets.
@@experimentsininsanity4478 I fear the end result might be inability to please anyone in particular. As in, it won't look as grand as a UCS display piece on the shelf, and it won't have interesting play features or elaborate design like pure playsets would. That said, I'm still gonna see it through, because my #1 reason for not going for any of the diorama sets is I don't want to have to deal with a million tiny bricks and those weird microfigures. I also love Chamber of Secrets, and since it's not bundled together with the Great Hall this time round, it stands to reason it will be getting more love as a separate set, which I'm excited for.
@@user-ek4ox5qm8w This is a common thing Lego does now, trying to walk the middleground. As with some of the upcoming star wars set, they try to make a playset that could also pass on for a cheaper display set. (cheap is a relative term here :) )
I'm not against this idea if this means they are good enough or great for display, or if they are just good sets in general, but it is much harder to do with a more stringent parts budget.

How is it possible that there is a kitchen inside the Barad Dur tower, that was never desribed, yet in the "MOST DETAILED HOGWARTS" there is no elfs kitchen under the Great hall, the one that was actually written about, and not only, it is widly discussed and expected.
Also were is the Haffelpufs common room?
Also no table for all the proffesorts? No 4 tables for the students?
No transclear roof?
I hope someday all this features will be included, so the name of the series will correspond to the real thing. The prices of lego are so high now, the ammount of stickers also. So no excuses for this noncense lego.
To be entirely fair, Barad-Dur is a 460 dollar flagship set, while this 200 dollars. Even for it's price, I think it is a much more complete and better designed set, apart from the weird modular feature making it too big for display and leaving you with excess rooms. I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, nor an expert, but judging from how it looks, how well it is furnished and the whole design style, I would still prefer this over Barad-Dur any day.
That is not saying those missing features that you know are supposed to be in here shouldn't be, but at some point they cannot fit all inside the building, or it would be gigantic and unaffordable.

@@henribg1 Okay, I understand. Maybe because I'm not as invested in the source material or the theme, I don't see many faults with it, or care too much about them. I'm sorry the set is not what you had hoped.
There are a couple of older ones that look quite interesting too. Or if you like doing so, you could try and remodeling or designing your own Hogwarts in the way you would want it. That is the beauty of Lego.
"Disjointed" is indeed the word to describe this castle system, Holly. I feel Harry Potter property right now is hard carried by Atticus and George Gilliat's desire and ability to sit together in a room and create wonderful sets that complement and piggyback off one another. This is exactly what made me get a bunch of Forbidden Forest and Aragog sets and build a most detailed Aragog's Lair yet (c)(tm) out of them. The owlery and the boathouse were made by someone else and you can tell just by looking at them. Small and boring, without fun play features or elaborate clockwork toy-esque contraptions like we saw in George's amazing Grimmauld Place set.
And yes, the way the Potions Class was implemented is problematic as well. You end up with a classroom that is way more detailed and elaborate than "side builds" that come with the Great Hall set, so those look bad in comparison. You end up with 3 builds but can only display 2 of them at a time. I feel Lego has been making a lot of this weird decisions that are dictated by number of sets and set prices allocation. Like the Triwizard Arrival set should have been two separate sets and merging them into one resulted in both the ship and the carriage done dirty.
