Uncovering the Secrets of Hovenweep: Ancient Ancestral Puebloan Structures

During our time in southwest Colorado we visited some amazing places: Canyon of the Ancients National Monument with Escalante Pueblo, Lowry Pueblo, Painted Hand Pueblo and Sand Canyon Trail - link to those videos below! Today we're visited Hovenweep National Monument on the Colorado and Utah border!
Hovenweep National Monument is home to some incredible ancestral puebloan ruins dating back almost 1000 years! From Tower Point to Hovenweep Castle, the ruins in this amazing place are awe-inspiring! People have lived in the area over 10,000 years and the structures that still exist have been around since the 13th century! The hike in the main part of the park is only about 1.5 miles (round trip), but the sights you'll see are unlike anything you'll see elsewhere! We actually love this park better than Mesa Verde National "Theme" Park!

Square Tower Group Trails (at the main park)
- Park Path to Canyon Overlook - .32 miles - 30 minutes
- Square Tower Loop Trail (at the main park) - 2 miles - 1.5 hours
- Hovenweep Castle (out and back) - .82 miles - 1 hour

Cutthroat Castle Trails (8.5 miles from Visitor Center)
- Upper Trailhead to Cutthroat Castle - 1.34 miles - 1 hour

Horseshoe and Hackberry Trail (4 miles from Visitor Center)
1.44 miles - 1 hour

Holly Trail (4 miles from Visitor Center) - .44 miles - 30 minutes

Cajon Trail (9.2 miles from Visitor Center) - .2 miles - 10 minutes
