Love this EV West guy. Hope he continues till he 150 years young. Will he teach his kids and will they continue their father's work into their own idess? Planes, boats/ships, Pickup Trucks/Semis, Submarines, motorized bikes/scooters/EV Harley Davidsons. Will he branch out into the EV East?
Whoa, steady on Roy,he's only complimented the man,.keep practicing with your words and letters and you too may get a highlighted comment..stick with it mate learn pesky vowels,we're rooting for you...👍🇬🇧
If they're not already booked to participate/display, the EV West guys would make a great addition to the American Fully Charged Live this year. Brilliant Episode.
OMG My favourite guys in the UK at my favourite guys in the USA! It was awesome seeing both these guys talking shop as they are both genuine fans of each others work, I just watched this for the 3rd time :P
tom0kiely I love the style of old vehicles, but I’ve really not got much love for old engines (other than having a slight soft spot for choppy, cammed big blocks) Yeah, it’s impressive what they could do at the time, but the time for inefficient unreliable old ice engines has passed. It’s crazy we’re still powering vehicles using thousands of contained explosions.
Watching this is like getting an inside peek at Johnny on Christmas morning. You can just feel how excited he was... he still tried to play it cool but the amount of awesome in that warehouse that is could not tap down his car geekness. Loved it. So glad companies like EV West are getting more exposure and doing such great preservation conversion work.
This is one of the best videos of recent times. Michael is such a cool dude, and Jonny is great at interviewing as well. Some good tech info and lots of really important understanding of the motivation and methods behind all that madness. Thank you both for another awesome video.
Love this collaboration between fullycharged & ev west. EV West has long been a favorite of mine & having Johnny doing a proper interview is a joy to watch. Hope the two will have further interactions.
This is a million times better than anything on TV. I genuinely think retro fitting classic cars with electric power trains is going to be huge, I would make my 2006 Shogun electric tomorrow and bin the noisy diesel engine, not a second thought. How does this channel not have millions of subs, I don't understand!
Fantastic episode, EVWest just keep blazing trails in the EV conversation world & Jonny is just a natural at what he does, looking forward to the next episode, guys 👍
Absolutely one of the best Fully Charged episodes ever! Depth of the knowledge at EV West is simply breathtaking. They simply love what they are doing 😀.
I'm not a person who "tinkers" with my cars but I acknowledge that a huge, massive number of guys love doing things to their pride and joy. It seemed that the EV industry would mean that a car was "soulless" but these guys and others like them, are proving there is room to tinker in a big way with conversions of the classic cars over to electric. Amazing. Personally I'd love the E type Jag that was converted to electric. Ha. A tad out of my price range though.
EV conversions will really be the Game Changer once they reach 'commoditisation' stage. Millions of old vehicles with decent bodies especially in Africa.
@@MrTiomanu Nice! We really need more of that. Our legislation (Norway) is very conservative and we are very underdeveloped when it comes to conversion of older cars, but I hope the government will come to realize that older cars also has value, as electric vehicles. Currently there is only one place in our country where you can go to get a conversion tested and approved, and if you don't live nearby you may have to spend a lot just to get the car transported to that location.
Sounds familiar...oh wait, I heard that back in the 70's quite a bit. Bottom line is you need to be dedicated to creating and maintaining an EV conversion. I think it will remain where it is forever. Especially wnowadays when you can go shopping for an electric vehicle from the big makers. EV conversions will rmeian a cottage industry...which is fine by me! Great video.
Excellent video, As someone who grew on combustion engines and I've been to several courses on auto mechaincs and was once a jet engine mechanic, the push-trend of EV's kind of gave me some anxiety, but you know what after seeing that the hot rodding and modifying of vehicles will always be around. These EV conversions are cool. I don't have that anxiety anymore. I've been following what the EV world has been doing for a few years and I see a lot potential . sticking a Tesla pack into a VW very similar to sticking a big V8 into a small car, strap in, shift and hold on. EV West I love what they are doing.
Im converting a 24 ft Chevy p30 stepvan to hybrid diesel solar electric drive locomotive style.LP and LNG converted.Always a pleasure watching the Masters of EV.🤯
Michael Bream is such an awesome dude! He was a huge help in selecting and sourcing my batteries, talking me through control issues, and just keeping me encouraged with advice. Definitely someone I would like to meet someday if I ever get out to CA again (or if he comes to MD).
Wow. A man with passion about what he does, brilliant! Made better by including tyre smoke. I think the answer to making the Enfield faster has just been found!
My bro and I we pushed his 1965 bug all over Adelaide, the 6v system was c@#p. Head lights you could blow out. A flawless electric motor, fill it up on solar and no understear, priceless.

Possibly the best ever UA-cam fully charged episode. I’m a huge fan of EV west. Project forward 5-10 years & there’ll be a UK equivalent. As emissions laws tighten (like California) electrification will be the only way to keep some of these oldies on the road.
Thanks for an excellent video, Johnny. Glad that you finally managed to visit EV West, and are able to give us a pretty good insight into what they've been doing for the past few years. You should interview them again, perhaps in a couple of years, to see how they progress from here.
Love, love EV West! I am starting to think of cars I would love to see converted from my younger years. This video shows how it is all possible with these guys!
I don’t remember watching this video before, but I must have since it shows that I hit the “LIKE” button. Now that I’m picking up my electrified ‘64 VW Beetle on Tuesday from Flash Drive Motors in Austin, Texas, I like the video even more!
I've been seeing quite a bit of EV West lately on UA-cam, and I think they deserve it. Well done, Fully Charged team... and I look forward to the next part.
That's awesome, I think that DeLorean should have been electric right from the beginning. I'm glad to see EV West taking it to the rightful production.
I can see the sense and the wisdom of taking lots of vehicles electric but my god why am I so addicted to UA-cam videos of old diesel engines starting up from cold!! Lol
Wow, this is wonderful. Love how there is so much high tech under the surface, but the garage feels so traditional. Smart, conscientious, the best of the old and new. That VW pick-up - had a rubber toy version when I a child, but rust is a death sentence in Canada. I'd love to see something wide and low converted, or a low-rider that can be hiked up to do off-road. So many possibilities.
Fascinating video. Please think of doing more stuff like this with small entrepreneurs who are stretching the envelope showing us their dreams, aspirations and ambitions. Well done Fully Charged and Jonny Smith!
Thanks Jonni great video I do I watched Mike from EV West for years watching his videos kind of convinced me that I would get a Nissan LEAF back in December 2014
EV West have been getting some coverage lately. Only a few weeks back, Rich Benoit from Rich Rebuilds was there looking around and chatting. Good episode.
Thank you for doing this vid! I follow EV West and it was great having some new fullychargedshow perspective on what they are doing! I am now on the hunt for classic cars that I can convert to electric propulsion!
Jan 17th Vienna had an Auto show and had an electric VW super beetle convertible, it was .. let say a valiant effort was made. You all at the EV West are far more superior when doing conversions. Love the vids.
I'm astanded, that's amazing!!!!! this is my dream (to have a workshop with only electric cars and pure electric tecnology) that's enough with petrol engines noise and pollution by their black smoke. Very good, forward on this road fullycharged!!!
i love this new evolution of cars and car tech, i really hope someone in nz starts up an electric conversion business because i would love classic vehicles preserved aswell!
Nice job EV West! Like all genius ideas: Clear, smart, simple. It gives inspiration for all those baby boomers that will certainly be converting their classic cars to EVs. It is a nice future and a great plan for retirement. Rock on!
