Oshkosh Truck should look at selling unarmored version of that for the Fire Service it would make a Awesome Brush Truck for Wild Land Fires.
+Don Hanson Great point! Agreed.
Without all that armor it could carry quite a bit of water and equipment.
this vehicle is constructed like a tank,1 piece of solid steel, not like a truck whit a regular frame...It`s an awesome truck,it looks great.
That is a great point, or assist with Catastrophe support such as the recent Hurricane. That weight and I think he said base 30" and up to 60" of water forging would allow First Responders to get into areas that they can't easily today with regular Equipment.
They somewhat did with the Pierce Hawk Extreme. Its built on the Oshkosh MTVR chassis. Got stuck behind one leaving the factory and all I can say is I would never want to get in a collision with it. Would run right over your car and not even notice.
I was at one of these events in 2009 as a soldier and we got to do testing on some of the stuff but the Oshkosh guy was stumped when he was asking what i as a soldier thought and when i said it needed cup holders he thought i was on crack. i explained to him why i felt we needed them and that the fire extinguisher could be removed to provide locked storage for my drink... anyways in 2012 one of the new trucks from them had cup holders
KLR Rider The cup is for your dip right?
KLR Rider ahahahah good job man
sounds like oshkosh can take a hint... lol really though they probably kept hearing the same exact thing from multiple people checking it out... "this is awesome... wait bro where am I gonna put my drink?" a simple thing since they were focused on the vehicle part of the operation they probably didnt think to much about the human operation save for the light armor.
I was deployed to Iraq 3 times. The first time I saw 1114s that had received the extra bolt on armor kits. Get shredded by the nuts and bolts IEDs. Needless to say we lost some guys during that. The 2nd time I was sent to support a unit that had received Bradleys because they were getting hammered pretty badly in Hummers. My 2nd week there I had to load 8 Hummers onto flat racks because of IED damage. My thumbnail photo is of my loading one of these Hummers. To me Hummers were coffins on wheels. They did very little to stop IEDs and RPGs. And I have seen bone yards in Kuwait during my time in Iraq where these boneyards were several football fields long and just full of Hummers. I cant express what a sickening and depressing sight that place was. I was there the 3rd time when the International and Maxxpro's MRAPs came online for our units. They were a HUGE difference in performance and they made us feel allot more secure than riding around in Hummers. I hope the Army and other branches completely gets rid of Hummers. Having them in the inventory only leads to temptation to use them again for these dangerous missions. And that's only putting soldiers at risk. When I first came into the Army the Hummer was a symbol of how great our equipment and vehicles where. We could go anywhere in them and often did. But Iraq made me hate them and I got sick of towing in destroyed and shredded Hummers. And I hated losing friends and fellow soldiers in them.
Hahahahaha, you wouldn't need this on the road.... Maybe Chicago or Detroit at times..... I lost it.
A friend of mine works at a Refinery checkpoint in Iraq, basically check vehicles passing through. One day a guy tries to avoid the checkpoint and a pursuit starts. My friend and a colleague of hers were in a Humvee in pursuit and they were losing the guy, because the humvee can only go roughly 60 mph on the road. Well, the guy suddenly turns off the road and my friend and her colleague just looked at each other and said, "He went off the road....." Well apparently while Humvees can only go 60 mph they don't need to slow down when going off road, so they quickly caught up to the guy who was hiding something innocent like banned fruit. They would've let him pass if he had just said that but instead they searched his whole vehicle haha.
Ya that didn’t happen check points do not allow pursuits you would call it in and that would be the end not only that you never chase them because they normally try to lead you to a trap and driving off road is the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard and goes against every ied class I’ve ever received
@@quadgod8111 I mean, I can only tell you what my friends told me. Apparently the guy didnt stop for the checkpoint, and kept going. My understanding is that the person was going towards the refinery which was along the road, so they had to chase. The area past the checkpoint was secure, and they had to chase in case they blew up the refinery. Different procedure. At the end of the day, that what my friend told me and I have no reason to believe they lied. If you don't believe, can't do much about it.
There has been many off the shelf MRAPs that were thrown into combat (RG-31, RG-33, Caiman, Cougar, etc.) to help counter the IED/EFP threats in Iraq and Afghanistan. MRAPs were great for getting from point A to point B but have severe tactical disadvantages. For example, the inability to quickly dismount and mount, especially while carrying 65-80+ lbs under full combat load. That's why many units continued to use the Humvee (M1114, M1151, etc.) even though they lacked the survivability of MRAPs. The Humvee was a great design in the early 1980s and was the answer to replace the venerable Jeep but when IEDs, and later EFP threats emerged in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Coalition Forces had to adapt to the changing conditions of the battlefield.
This would have been a great option years ago but unfortunately, Congress can only spend so much for upgrading and adopting new vehicle systems, especially for something as major as replacing the Humvee. Furthermore, lessons learned had to be incorporated into this vehicle system, improving the capabilities and survivability. That's why we are only now starting to see a myriad of new systems (weapon, vehicle, equipment, etc.) being introduced and issued now that the U.S. Armed Forces has switched gears (Post OEF/OIF era) from direct action operations and now focusing on reorganization and training with a now much smaller force.
Hope you enjoyed the AUSA meeting/expo, it's a great opportunity to see the future of warfare technology and business at its finest.
+Mighty Tiki thanks for the thoughtful comment. We learned a lot from your analysis of the current state of the art situation.
Meh. I'll wait for the chromed out, multi-star Texas edition.
James Beaman Lmao I'm done. 😂😂
Damn right lol
I'll wait for the lowered, on 30's, painted purple (like a Rick Ross' Lambo), with huge subwoofer and zillion of monitors in it )) LA WCC Grove street edition)
hahaha love it
You would ruin it like that! SMH
They didn't even test it up goldmine hill... clearly the new Ridgeline has this thing beat.
😂😂😂
Great Video guys, you asked all the right questions and obviously that guy had the knowledge to answer them.
Only thing that would have made it better for me, was some short footage showing the inside of the truck.
Photography not allowed. *takes a video*
tylan4life photography UNDER vehicles not allowd didn't get that at first either.
yea its just the undercarriage... they most likely want to keep their suspension system under wraps because they did go through the trouble of registering it as a trademark lol tac4i or whatever they called it.
LOL, yeah that was my first thought, too. But then I rewound the video and saw the "under vehicle" part. I'm guessing that's classified info for now so as not to reveal any potential attack vectors.
1:51 Awww it has hearts for headlights.
@Tfltruck did you know that humvee is auctually spelled HMMWV it stands for "High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle"
+josh trammell thanks now we all know
Wouldn't that be HMMPWV? Humpeeweevee?
The Army also likes to ignore whichever letters they don't like to pronounce in their acronyms.
Humpy WeeWee sounds sexy.
I can imagine the Marines general saying, Dear Mr Secretary, we need to order another 6000 Humpy Weewees to the battlefield.
"We have to push 6000 Humpy Weewees into that valley, and we have to do it now! And I don't care if all of them have the extra protection or not!"
Yes but is it "Soldier Proof"
And is it marine proof... who am I kidding, nothing is
Nothing is ever immune to the disinterest of the uninterested lol.
Well, they beefed up the bars that hold the side-mirrors on so that Marines could do pull-ups on them, so they've done their research...
lmao
Steve K Jr well the marines won't be too many pull ups because they're getting 70 but the army is getting 500
04:11 LOL and this is one of the many reasons I live with a constant ringing in my ears.
Kudos to the salesperson. He is very well informed about his product and amiable.
Greatest business development representative ever. Good Job.
And just think, the company still makes clothes for toddler's.
Nope
hahah different company
hah for fucks sake! what about warm superhero onesies for the troops
they are not american made anymore for the overalls, only roundhouse and pointer brand are resonably priced still made in america for general labor, there are others that make 100 doller plus protective specialty overalls and coveralls though.
Just as long as they make 'em in flame-retardant, IR-shielded desert tan, coyote brown, or camo...
Cool video, glad you guys took the time out to go to this event!
looks like the dogmobile from dumb and dumber.
Good one- that made me legit laugh.
jesse burnett I agree with you 100%. It needs a bit more fierce face than the dogmobile knockoff.
sooo true
jesse burnett jajaja
LOL I read that quick and thought you said Doug Mobile...LOL Only if it has a carmax warranty
Looks like a great upgrade for the troops. Glad that this thing has the power to go with all the other performance aspects. The HMMWV suffered because it had a very underpowered engine to start, and then they grafted on all kinds of things it wasn't designed for. That truck still lasted 35-40 years so it wasn't all bad, but if I were in boot camp right now, I'd want to be looking forward to one of these.
What a bug out vehicle this would be. Looks awesome I hope it protects and serves our military well
Thanks for filming the No Photographs Allowed signs! :)
That thing is an absolute off-road beast.
Hey guys you are building an awesome machine! I actually make some of the tooling for you guys and I just want you to know how much pride I take in doing my job and we appreciate your business. Keep up the good work and wise choices in choosing subcontractors. You guys are one of the companies that are passionate about what you do and actually making American great!
As an amputee I have so much respect for your thorough prints and demands! I vow to always build you the best tool that my abilities will allow! Thank you for always looking forward!
Very cool. It's like an A-10 for the ground.
I like the PHOTOGRAPHY NOT ALLOWED license plate :-)
Oshkosh through its many divisions is a company that always goes first class!
Side Note: Banks Co. is producing a large portion of the engine and transmission components while alsoooo providing the platform to upgrade older humvee platforms. So one company has a part in both this manufacture of new and upgrade of old military units. Imagine the coin rolling in
i seen this oshkosh 2 yrs back in diesel power magazine, the original power plant planned was a powerstroke, but it proved to be to unreliable. hints y he said we chose the duramax because it has proven to be a reliable engine.
Game Bred Duramax the 6.7 is way more reliable than the Duramax.
Very cool, more interested in survivability, capability, crew comfort, and mission range. Good to see more of these out there. Played with one for a bit in CO and it is a nice improvement over the humvee... Would love to have a decom.
Oshkosh dropped the ball on ambient noise. Good question Roman.
Can't wait to get one.
At first I was skeptical about the whole "hmmwv replacement" thing. But it makes sense that they would want a replacement for the uparmored hmmwv. When I was deployed for oif we were breaking axles and frames somewhat frequently due to the terrain and all of the extra gear we were hauling. Some of the trucks didn't even have more than a few thousand miles on them. The mraps were even worse.
Just listened to a podcast with Gale Banks describing the JLTV as a trophy truck with a gun turret. He said this thing can perform amazing feats of speed over incredibly broken terrain. Can't wait for these to come on the surplus market in twenty years...
Mike Hershey I'm not sure about that- old APC's are available on the surplus market. Getting one of these licensed for the road is another matter entirely however...
At any rate, you could pop the doors off and unbolt the v-hull they said was removable and ta-da you have a butch trophy truck.
It's a pipe dream but there's still a miniscule chance they may hit the market...
I used the matv over in Afghanistan, it was a good vehicle.
@Michael Bute Dude. Have some respect.
Since the establishment of the new Afghan government, US presence is legal, while Taliban is illegal. US is formally invited to resolve Afghan problems
Michael Bute - Get some friends and a job.
I liked how the Humvee it replaces can climb a vertical wall.
Very nice & competent chap from Oshkosh
After the Oshkosh comes the Piffpaff. And I already know the follower of that one! Bangboom!
I love you guys please don't stop making videos I've already learned so much because of you guys. KEEP GOING !
+Furitive God thanks for the kind comment and thanks for watching!
I think this is very exciting! It's a baby MRAP. I wonder when we'll get to play with this new toy? Looks like fun.
Can't wait to get behind the wheel of one of these bad boys.
he might be in the army
This is a great vehicle. Very reliable. 7500 hours between mission compromising failure. More than double the highly developed Humvee. 7-15 times more reliable that the Lockheed and AMG competitors for this contract. But it is EXPENSIVE.
duramax for a reason 😉 that replacement looks so dope it's evil looking haha
Thanks for that very informative interview. I learned a lot about the vehicle, like it's tan and armored...Seriously, why would you even have an interview if you can't answer any questions?
"Photography not allowed"
Respect Roman, Respect.
Oshkosh always hooks it up, especially for fire trucks
It needs magnetic shocks to get rid of the dive and squat (or an active system setup if it has them already).
so trippy, I juuuust left Oshkosh WI. It's a place in the middle of no where above Milwaukee. Then again....there are a few factory buildings out there...
Nothing is "Soldier Proof", however this replacement for the Humvee: The Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle is one that will provide a soldier with the vehicle needed to do the job.. A really good extra tool for use in a battlefield for a soldier in need.!
FYI:
Under the vehicle it's hull shaped in order to more efficiently absorb blows from roadside IED's.
oshkosh makes fantastic military vehicles
Now this thing looks badass
With the Oshkosh TAK-4i suspension, I wonder if they finally integrated 4-wheel disc brakes. The Oshkosh TAK-4 on the M-ATV was quite nimble compared to other class 1 MRAPs but what worried me were the 4-wheel drum brakes on thr M-ATV. I sure hope the Oshkosh JLTV has disc brakes considering their bragging for mobility...
Looks like a good run!
i live in wisconsin. im up in oshkosh area/central wisconsin a lot and ill tell ya what. i see 20-30 a day on trucks just by driving through. army is getting a substantial amount oif these vehicles.
no discussion about the bottom configuration regarding IEDs...this is paramount!
It is crazy how much tose vehicles have grown in size. Remeber Jeeps and M151? They were replaced with HMMVW, which was huge compared to them, now this thing is dwarfing Humvee!
mibars it’s 30% smaller...
LOL, @ :50 "Photography Not Allowed", yet an entire "video" gets uploaded!
Now if only Oshkosh could make a bad ass civilian pickup truck that looks just
as awesome!
well I hope it has some amount of acceleration, when we were driving the up-armored HUMVEES in Iraq we couldn't get in or out of trouble fast enough. It was excruciating how slow it was, 0 to 30 in like 25 seconds, no where near good enough. Instead of going for torque they need to make these with some sort of turbo charged monster engine. Oh well maybe these will be a good fit after all.
TFL, it's estimate that that 6.6L duramax is making around if not more than 300hp (225kw)...
And of course, they tweaked the tuning so it's probably making more than that.
It's planned to enter service in 2019. But of course, we all know how contractors work ;)
I just hope comes with minimum bii, bii layouts can suck it. Not to mention a class for the Joes on how to properly PMCS on these vehicles.
TWO FORTY BRAVO OPERATOR BII for the MRAP was GFE, and carried over to the MATV. I worked on the OEM side of the RG31, and it was a nightmare for TACOM having so many different OEM-specific BII's. Since this is a close cousin to the MATV , and since the PM is run out of TACOM, my guess is the BII, and the PMCS will be very similar.
I want one of these in an unarmored format as a huntin' truck!
God Bless America! 🇺🇸😎👌
My vehicle of choice for the zombie apocalypse :) for sure and when its time to hunt down Negan this is the truck to be in!
Hol up
The interviewer said that the humvees were loud for the occupants, but the guy answering said it wasn't noticable. If it wasn't noticable, the question wouldn't have been asked in the first place.
Not that I'm expecting any of these to sound like a prius.
I think what he meant was "yeah it's definitely louder but I can't say that without loosin' my gig lol"
Duramax power! Awesome!
"How many horsepower is it?" "That is one of the technical specifications that we do not provide". Well, a quick Google search shows 275-575 hp with variable speed governor, with 425 hp as the defualt. I am speculating, but the settings will be like; Towing mode, 275 hp with low boost and 2,500 max rpm. Normal mode 425 hp, stock duramax boost, 3,200 rpm max. Then there will be a combat mode, 575 hp, higher than stock boost, possibly higher than 3,200 rpm max.
Are they EMP resistant like the old Hummers.
I know they're different companies from the same place....but I like to think the children's clothing manufacturer got bored with overalls and just up and decided they'd start taking on military contracts.
I'm sure the lock hub, suspension, racknpinion, axle and exhaust including the snorkel are still vulnerable
Wow, Those trees shown at 3:26 sure grow at funny angles. Geez
i know that the banks power pack for an 05 max will give you another 230 foot pounds...and that kit comes with everything you can think of, except a turbo...i doubt theres as much room for improvement on the latest max but i dont really know
We have been using these for almost 4 years already.
Good. Hopefully this prevents many IED-related casualties.
It's beautiful.
Can it run on commercial diesel (with lower performance) if the supply of military grade diesel is interrupted?
To bad I am not in the Army anymore. This would have been fun to drive.
Cool. looks like this is my new humvee
Ah AMERICA!!!! and oshkosh, ive always wanted one of their 8x8's
Rep. from Oshkosh clearly hasn't had a look at our new Aussie Hawkei PMV. Both vehicles are Amazing...
does the JLTV provide overhead protection from explosives and such?
Oshkosh is a company that goes 1st class; the JLTV will succeed; It needs a nickname "Jolie"
I’m a marine stationed in TwentyNine Palms, and I am see these already in one of the vehicle depots
Will I be able to buy one later down the road like with the humvee?
I live in in Oshkosh and for several months have wondered what these were. I knew it wasn't an MATV.
That thing is badass! And sounds good, its a diesel Super HD Raptor lol
Looks like an armored Trophy Truck.
I hate replacing fuel filters on the 1165s and 1151s. I hope they put the filters in a better accessible spot.
I hope they have civilian modes for this vehicle because it's kinda sexy in my opinion lol.
Also man they stopped making Hummers so we can't get our military truck fun.
Nearly 400 HP
Knowing Banks it will be barely modified but made more reliable.
emission bullshit removed i guess, with bigger coolers everywhere and a smokeless tune.
The MATV (also Osh Kosh) ran a CAT C7. I'll take one of those
I want one in black 😻
Of course Mr. Wayne...of course.
Looks decent. But just like the MATV, they need to design it for people. Not enough leg room for average size people. Being a driver in the army I dread driving the mrap and matvs because of head and leg room with a DVE camera and the radio headset. Dismounting them sucks. The doors are also extremely hard to open if it's not parked on flat surface. Maybe have a spring to help open 300 pound doors. Other than that the 6spd auto and the motor in them are great!
That duramax sounds gooooood
Woah it's even lighter than the new Am General Humvee.
Not sure if this was answered but I think loud sound is not a high priority of development.
The Ultimate vehicle weapon. Based on OshGosh.
I want to see Oshkosh make an upmarket super duty pickup truck. I would love to own such a super pickup truck.
Hell yea.... I work for Banks Tech. We help with the Engine!!!!!!!!!! Hell Yea!!!!
