The last video with the cougar happened just a couple of miles from where I live. It might sound crazy to you, but the hiker's actions, and the actions of the other guy saying "I'm not going to bug you" was exactly the right thing to do. All wild cats have a chase instinct, so if either of them had turned and run, the cougar would for sure have attacked them. What you're supposed to do is back away slowly, try to make yourself look bigger and more intimidating (by doing things like waving your arms or flaring out your jacket), shout at the cougar, and if it doesn't back off, throw stuff at it (which the second guy did; the cougar fled when he threw a rock at it). They're actually scared of humans, so most of the time they'll leave if you intimidate them. I'm not sure what was going on with the first cougar video, but in the second one, the hiker had come too close to the cougar's babies, which was why she wouldn't stop following him and snarling at him. Wildlife experts actually commended the second guy for doing exactly the right thing in that situation.
If you run away from these animals they will usually attack you. If you stay as calm as you can and back away you will usually do much better at surviving the situation.
Yeah you shouldn't even run from a domestic dog, because you'll trigger its chase instinct. I made that mistake as a kid. Luckily the dog was a freaking golden retriever so as soon as I turned back around to check how close it was it stopped and laid down to ask for belly rubs.
However, even a golden retriever chased me simply because I ran.
With a big cat...forget running, don't even turn your back!
Exactly! I was about to comment the same thing. This applies to dogs too. If you run, you can trigger a predator-prey response causing them to chase after you - and you can't outrun them! Better to back away slowly all the while trying to appear to be a formidable opponent - possibly by raising your arms to make yourself seem bigger than you are. If they're think you're formidable but don't feel cornered by you, they're less likely to attack.
The reason the Americans are so "calm" around bears and mountain lions is because if they turn and run they are guaranteed to get attacked and killed. It's like throwing a plate of red meat in front of a dog.
There's a saying in my country to educate people on how to fend off bears. "If its brown, lie down. If it's black, fight back". As far as mountain lions go, you have a 50/50 shot of being attacked if you slowly retreat without turning your back. Most of us who travel in mountain lion/bear territory always go armed.
you forgot, "If it's white, goodnight" 🐻❄
Cougars are no joke , was out running my dogs one day , 2 pitbulls and an Irish wolfhound , they chased a mother and cub up a tree , thought she was gonna come down and tear us up , i thank the gods she didn’t
Stand your ground (mountain lions and black bears), act intimidating, make noise, back away VERY slowly. Brown bear sow with cubs, stay away, don't run but get the hell away from her unless mother instincts decide you're a threat and she turns you into coleslaw. Gators, just get inland as fast as possible, they run fast but only for a very short while, they're too stupid to be impressed by much else, and DO NOT let them bite you or you're probably losing a limb. Running just turns on the hunting instincts. Same as with a dog, Run = Chase.
Didn't even see Polar bear (most dangerous threat on the continent), moose, musk ox, or buffalo. Let alone rattle snakes, Cottonmouth, Lynx, any kind of gar, or any big game fish, or deer. PS: There are more and more sightings of Jaguar as they begin to creep back into their old ranges in Tx, Nm, Az, Ca.
The Worst thing you can do with a Mountain Lion is turn and Run, you cannot outrun it and it will see you as Prey, you never turn your back on them, need to do as he did back away but keep him in your sight they are ambush predators so they like to strike when you're not looking. Also make yourself look big and loud to scare them, Animals don't have health insurance so they are careful with the fights they pick, if they see you as to dangerous of prey to attack they will back off most of the time, but not always like that guy with the mother bear and the cubs was probably the most in danger, they will take chances if they see you as a threat to the cubs.
The best way to deal with difficult to see ambush hunters like big cats, coyotes, etc, is to face them, wave your arms, make lots of noise, and not run.
The way to deal with non-ambushing, very large and generally very difficult to not see territorial animals (eg, bears, bison, elk moose, etc) is to stay the hell away from them in the first place.
Alligators, mountain lions and bears are all on the American "do not mess with" list😂😂
The clip where the guy is walking backwards down the path away from the big cat, it's a mountain lion, also known as a cougar and a few other names, we have them all over north america from mexico to canada, and about 15 western states in america as well as florida in the south have them.
Cats almost never attack you while you keep eye contact. but as soon as you turn away or blink for too long you are cooked
4:53 they were too darn big to both be on that horse.
Those are strong neck muscles, it can lift jver 1000 lbs with just it's neck.... that cougar is such a cute dork, the swipping bear too
You guys are so cute. Haha. Nature is wild, and never understand why people think they are safe. I liked this alot.
we can't see half the screen
One of the best reasons to be able to carry when in the woods. Only encountered one bear and a few other smaller predators in 50 years but many other wildlife. Some people don’t know that even something like a turkey has spurs and can attack.
Alligator might be the only animal you want to swiftly get away from
Cougars/ mountain lions are the #1 you don’t want to/ benefits you to challenge (if it’s not a momma w it’s cubs)
Check out the mountain biker chased by a bear
We are in their habitat, by destroying their homes with our homee and businesses. Its rare for them to attack you. Unless they feel threatened.
That one last videos with the big cat chasing that dude was here in my state of Utah
If you are not packing self-defense items you have to know how to interact with animals. Walking backwards while talking is safer than turning your back and running.
Yes. By running away from them you activate their predator/prey drive and they will attack even if not hungry. Also, a momma bear 🐻 with cubs is very dangerous. Never ever get between them.
Yeah, absolutely never turn your back on a big cat!
Enjoying America through your eyes, 👀 , it's beautiful, thanks for the reminder ✌ enjoying your content in Arizona 🌵🌻🌵
Horses make me feel uncomfortable. I love them but when they come up to see what youre doing they are one of the most intimidating animals Ive ever been around bc of how massive and strong they are. Takes seconds to get kicked or bit and thrown around like a ragdoll. I just try to stay calm and chill.
do you want to show half of your vid's or more of you faces reacting to the vid. because we could not see the bottom of you vid.
Im here for the screams 😱 😂😂😂
This is such a scary video!!!
Not everyone in this video were Americans.
Cut off half the screen
I know that this is going to be good
