Thanks Dylan for a more complete explanation of how to use of iOS 18 mail. I learned something! However similar to the rest of the Apple intelligence I find the majority of mail options a needless waste of time.
Thanks Dylan. My initial response was to turn off categories. There’s much more here, nuance and new to me options. I’ve had some nagging questions about mail on my phone, and feel a little more confident now.
Great video Dylan, I personally ❤️ the layout and look of the Mail app in iOS 18.2. So good for organising my emails, I’ve been using the VIP ⭐️ function for a good few years now - You and Frank are one of my many VIPs so I never miss an email from any of my VIPs. Kudos to Apple for doing this and bringing it to us. 😁😁
I thought I knew most everything about Mail app but I didn’t know about the All Trash and All Junk in Favs. I did have All Mail, which is very handy. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this video. I had no idea how to use this updated mail app. You are one of the few on UA-cam who does such informative and easy-to-follow emails. Much appreciated.
when I swipe all the way left in my icloud or outlook messages, it will trash the message, but in both my google accounts, it doesn't give me the trash option with swiping
That’s because Gmail has replaced deleting with the archiving function mostly so that they can charge you more storage fees when you can’t actually remove your messages. To eliminate that function go to settings, apps, Mail… Click on mail accounts, click on your Gmail account, click on account settings and then click on advanced. From there you can change the delete setting to actually delete your message rather than saving it in some nefarious archive file that you get to pay for even though you were just trying to throw away your mail. Thank you Google for making the simple complicated.
When I swipe from right to left, my options are to Archive when I’d like it to be Trash. I went into Mail options but wasn’t able to add it. Any suggestions?
Great review of the mail app for iOS. QUESTION: I have a bunch of mail rules on my Mac. However, if the Mac is not on, the iPhone does not apply these rules. How can I get the iOS to use my Mac OS mail rules without having to enter them all again?
Hi Carey, unfortunately rules do not work on iOS as of yet. Hopefully they will add that in the future… Right now the only way to implement them is having your Mac on, and it will perform those actions and the iPhone will replicate them. But if the computer is off it will not make any changes.
My incoming emails will go into junk or trash….mostly into trash and I’ve tried different methods (even deleting app and reinstalling)to correct the problem, but no success. Nothing will come into my inbox. Could it be problems from my main server, AT&T ?
It may be an issue with other devices you have synchronizing with that same account. If you have it on your computer you may have some rules or other functions that are running without you realizing it and dumping stuff in the wrong place. Who is your email provider, and what devices do you have it connected to?
@@TheMacWhisperer My email provider is through AT&T (currently yahoo). I have email on IMac, two different IPhones and one IPad. They all have the same issues where my incoming emails filters into junk with junk mail and the rest filters into my trash.

Check the message I left for you on the other post… You need to change your Gmail setting from archive to delete. I’ve outlined the steps in my other reply.
You actually do. If you go into your mailboxes view and click on edit in the upper right hand corner you will see that section and you can turn things on and off. It will not see it say “favorites” anywhere… But it still is your favorite section.
I'm glad you were able to get your mailboxes cleaned up! And welcome to the MacWhisperer membership. Where we teach you things that make all your technology operate better! There’s lots more to learn.

Thank you. That was helpful.
I don't see a Priority option, though.

Awesome… I love that I’m one of your VIPs!
When this was 1st updated, the category section and priorities got some stuff wrong, so I don't trust it. Just turned it back to list view
Excellent overview Dylan🎉
High Dylan, wonderful video, how do you edit and make a custom signature?
This is super helpful. So many changes in Mail. I’m trying to catch up with what’s new. Thank you!!
Do we still have the remind me later feature?
I thought I knew most everything about Mail app but I didn’t know about the All Trash and All Junk in Favs. I did have All Mail, which is very handy. Thank you.
I’m so glad you found that helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Outstanding video! Now I won’t be frustrated by not knowing the new mail app. I was pretty sure I didn’t like it, now I do! Thanks.

I'd like to know this as well

Your videos are always great and packed full of information. I have learned so much from you. Thank you. I appreciate all of your hard work.
Just found you a couple days ago subbed and have learned a lot just from 2 of ur vids thx!
I’m plagued by the app flagging an old message FOLLOW UP, and putting it back in my In Box.
How do I turn off this FOLLOW UP feature?
I don’t even get a notification sound anymore, despite chatting with apple support!

Isn’t this really smart mail boxes feature?
Thanks, always learn something new from you
Appreciate that! What was your biggest Takeaway?
Thanks. Great video that I needed ‼️
Glad I could help!
Thank you Dylan, great video as always, you are the best 👍😀
Thank you so much for watching! Anything else you'd like to learn about?
If you are in Europe, you dont have the new menu bar
When I swap I can’t see that delet option on my mail
Check the message I left for you on the other post… You need to change your Gmail setting from archive to delete. I’ve outlined the steps in my other reply.
Im on iOS 18.2 and I don’t have this layout for the email app 😢
What phone do you have? The latest changes are only available on the 15 pro or later and you have to have Apple Intelligence enabled in settings.
@ oh, ok, that’s it then lol I’m on an iPhone 11. Thx for checking in and helping me! Wish you a merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
How to use safari and contact
Make for each thing in iPhone how to use
You are good in it
Apples mail app is not new, it's Gmail email. And I guess you can't use Outlook. You can't even add that email address.
I don’t have a “Favorites” section in my email
You actually do. If you go into your mailboxes view and click on edit in the upper right hand corner you will see that section and you can turn things on and off.

I just want list view.
👌👍
Love it. Spent yesterday cleaning out mailboxes. Learned more today! Thanks as always.
