The new units from Arcam give us that rare combination of great sound and just about every single piece of tech you would want in the home theater world. They are certainly not at the bottom of the cost stack for home theater components, but worth every penny for what they provide. We compliment Arcam for bringing together audiophile level sound with some super cool features and the incredible Dirac correction system. I've always admired Arcam from afar. Love seeing the updates here from them that should be some of the best in AVRs today.
Thanks for sharing
Very cool. I always learn so much from your reviews. Thanks again for the content and keep up the great work.
Glad to hear it!
Arcam is amazing. I was blown away when I first heard their products.
Thanks for sharing!
Love these videos, Leon. So informative and helpful. Can’t wait to come up to your showroom (from Atlanta) and demo some 2-channel and AVR gear.
Thanks very much! We have some great gear in both of our retail locations.
I'm really happy to hear how stable the software is on the new models, especially with HDMI 2.1. Sound has always been great on the Arcams.
Couldn't agree more!
Hey Leon, love the team, the channel and the website tools… job well done👍
Thanks very much! We appreciate you watching and commenting
Arcam really does have a beautiful sound, great video!
Yes it does! Thanks for watching
I've been looking into upgrading my Marantz AVR to move into Dirac Live room correction, so this review comes at a great time for me. I can definitely see one of these units in my near future. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great review of some amazing products!
Thanks so much!
As a music-first guy, these look awesome! I have to agree: for someone who wants high-end (2-channel) audio and excellent theater a/v in one box, these can't be beat. Another great video, thanks AA.
Glad you like them!
Look awesome?😳 Well I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.😒
Thanks for comparing the units in simple and plain terms.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Great review, great product. Cheers mate, hi from Canberra, Australia.
Thank you Paul. We appreciate you watching and commenting
Super Excited to hear the new AV41 with the PA240 power Amp!
That will be a n ice combo, thanks for watching
I’ve owned. Few and love the sound.

Great review.
Glad you enjoyed it
Arcam has always been a huge value in the High End audio world. I love the sound of their amps and receivers with music and movies.
Thanks for sharing Marty
Looks like a very well made product.
We feel it is, thanks for watching Chris!
Finally pulled the trigger on these. Got the avr21 in last night and listened to just some Spotify and then firestick movies. So far compared to my old Yamaha v773 it's a night and day difference, and haven't even tried Dirac yet. Very clean and powerful sound. The only negative I've discovered so far is the unit gets hot near the top rear by the HDMI board after a while, and it takes like 40 seconds to fully boot up. Used it for 8 hrs straight and no protection mode ever came on so hopefully it's no big deal.
Glad you like it and thanks for sharing.
Was in the market for the onkyo RZ50 until the Best Buy home theater guy talked me into this model!! …. I already knew of this model but didn’t know they came out with a new line up!’n only downside is he only told me feel the swiftness of the knobs… didn’t show me the menu options or what all it could do!!! Pure laziness !!! I may look like I don’t have money to spend… but I do!! But I won’t be buying it from them!’ That’s for sure!! Pricey as hell but worth it!!! Big leap coming from the pioneer elite!!’
We have most of them in stock and offer the best support in the business, we can even dial in and help you set things up if necessary www.audioadvice.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=arcam+av Thanks for watching
I had a fire back in August and I had a Yamaha Z9 I lost . Never explored Arcam before but I love second hand shopping. Found a Arcam AVR 390 at a pawn shop for 500. I was hesitant but they said I could bring it back within 10 days. So I did that , and wow I'm blown away. So much so I'm looking at audio reviews to buy a more modern Arcam receiver. Idk for 500 bucks I'm impressed with my decision as the surround is mind blowing. The separation is ridiculous and even though it is supposedly 80 WPC has no issues powering my B&W's. I always want to get into separates but it's just a crazy amount of money to do all that. I think I can live with Arcam until I win the lottery 😅.
You guys are producing some very good videos! I'd be happy to be a patron of your store should I be in the market for something.
Thank you! We really appreciate that!
Great info.
Would love to see one on the newer 5 model.
Glad you liked it. Here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/txNEz6VIQbM/v-deo.htmlsi=rAm_ASl4huoQ8XJE
Would adding and external amplifier (NAD M22) to power the fronts L & R change the character of the sound, compared with using the inbuilt amp? Thank you
Yes it will. For more info about that, talk with our experts at audioadvice.com. They can help you decide if that's the best choice for your setup.
I had JBL Syhntesis SDP-55 which share the same firmware with Arcam, i could tell that i had zero bug right now running with 5.2.4 svs speaker. I hope i could upgrade. The hdmi board 2.1 when it available…
Thanks for sharing
I just bought it from you site. I am exited to check how good it is since I am upgrading from a 4 year old Onkyo.
Thank you Jeff. Our team will be happy to help with any set up questions. Thanks for your support
Jeff, how are you making out? I also just purchased the AVR11. All the video, 4k, vrr, ALLM, 120fps seem to be working well with Xbox and PS5, the problem is the Dolby/DTS bitstream audio. Skipping for a second every minute or so. ARCAM says there is a FW update coming in the next week or so. If it clears this hurdle, would basically be a perfect receiver for me.
@@soullessellie hey Ollie, indeed it has been an excellent upgrade. Interesting the issue you found I have not have seen it on my part but I have noticed that I loose audio completely and I have to restart the unit, maybe similar but in a different scale. The rest has been awesome including the features like you mentioned it has been great. Let me know how things go. Take care.
@@mrjeffry25 Hey, are you using the new ps5 and/or XSX? I believe they are the only 2 things that are causing issues… but Arcam team said fix is on the way, so should be all good…
@@soullessellie I am using the Apple TV and Xbox Series X. My issue has been Apple TV
Very interesting device. Thank you for the presentation. Is there support for Siri? Is it possible to listen to the sound via Bluetooth and speaker at the same time?

Hi Leon. Nice review. Being torn between Arcam & Anthem 2 years ago, I went with Anthem's MRX740 & AVM70 over Arcam's AV40. The one thing that stood out was your comment about the "Arcam Sound". What is it and how do you characterize it? I know how subjective this may be. But it must be better than just marketing. What makes it a better sound than say Anthem Sound? Please help us customers understand more. I am tempted to test out Arcam AVR11 or 21 just to audition its "sound"! BTW, is the AVR20 and AVR21 similar except for 4K vs 8K? I might try AVR20 instead for economic reasons.
Since you are using the Mark Levinson power amp you should just stick with what you have. The amps in the Arcams, especially the Class G amps are very good. But you have an awesome power amp already. Thanks for watching
I am looking at upgrading my 5.1 system to a 5.1.2 Atmos set up. I currently have an Anthem Mrx 520 (fantastic sound).
I have ordered an external 7 channel power amplifier to power the entire set up so the receiver will be running in full pre amp mode only.
I am considering the Anthem Mrx 540 8k but I also am considering the Arcam AVR11. I don't have a way to personally audition these 2 amps to compare but would like some opinions. Is the Arcam sound a worthwhile step up from Anthem which already sounds great?
Great channel by the way. Love your videos.
If you already love the MRX520, it will be more of the same sound you already love with better detail, clarity, and precision. Especially if you are strictly going to use it as a processor. If you don't like to make a lot of tweaks and want it to sound great once it's calibrated, then Anthem will be the way to go. However, if you want to tweak a bunch of settings frequently, Arcam might be the better route, thanks to Dirac, and it would be a solid "step up" in that sense. If you are considering the Arcam, we'd recommend spending more on an actual processor like the Anthem AVM70 or Arcam AV41.
Hope that helps!
Don't buy the avr11, I'm on my 2nd one and I'm taking it back for a refund this weekend. Both units are making a humming noise, I'm at a loss now I don't know what avr to get now
I'm thinking of getting the new Vincent SV-737 hybrid...designed in Germany...it has a optical and coaxial...how much would it benefit me to use one of your favorite DAC's with it?...Why is it that only the cheaper built Korea and china Dac's have an hdmi ? I'd love to use one with eArc...I don't need all those channels as I only use 2.2 or 3.2 ...thank you!
Nice amp! You pose some great questions, and it would probably make sense to have a chat with one of our designers at audioadvice.com. We want to recommend the best possible solution for you, and should learn a bit more about your system and use case. Thanks!
Hi, this might be a silly question but I have the Arcam SA 10 and I plan on grabbing the AVR 11, will it make sense to connect the SA 10 to the AVR 11 or are there no benefits to doing so?
The AVR11 will sound better on its own, bigger amp section and more power. Thanks for watching
Hi! Such a great overview! Would you mind if we share it on our website and social media?
Thanks so much! We would be very happy if you did that.
Is there a reason why the phono input is the only thing that’s powering my speakers through an avr? The manual said you shouldn’t use phono if not using for turntable. Help! Thanks!

Hi, great to see you again! I am ready to purchase after my Pioneer Elite SC-99 died. My main concern is the hdmi 2.1. I already have 3 hdmi 2.1 devices (PS5, XSX, and the new Apple TV4k. Will this work with those devices? Will it pass through VRR, 4K 120, HDR, Dolby Vision etc? Will it work with LG OLED? Very few receivers out right now that actually work as you know(despite advertising they do so. The Onkyo RZ50 is impossible to get right now. Really hoping the AVR11 is the answer. just want it to work! Thanks bud!
That Pioneer Elite was a very nice AVR. All of the HDMI inputs are 2.1, 4K 120, HDR, and Dolby Vision, but we do not think they support VRR. Your better bet is probably to connect the two game consoles directly to your LG and use its eARC to get the uncompressed audio back to the Arcam. It does sound fantastic and is working great for us. Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice Ok, well I just ordered the AVR 11 from your store, and I will run some tests to see if VRR works with the XSX in the next week or so. The PS5 is coming out with an update in the next few months that will add VRR.
The Pio Elite was great, loved it, but it had a faulty hdmi board, I had it replaced once under warranty, recently failed again, now out of warranty. Thanks!
@@soullessellie Ollie, thanks so much for your support, if you need any tech help getting it set up, please reach out to our team.
@@soullesselliehow did it work out connecting your ps5 directly to it? I’m considering this processor but I figure I’d have to connect my ps5 to my tv assuming the Arcam doesn’t support all the gaming features 🤔
Great Presentation….Wow! I feel like there is nothing else that could have been covered….
Glad you liked it!
I have the last British designed Arcam before it was sold to Harmon... The new stuff I believe is just a re badged JBL or lexicon stuff...
Actually it is still done by Arcam with help from JBL software and the JBL processors and receiver are the same platform as the Arcam with slightly better DACs and they include Dirac Live Bass, but the rest is identical. The new stuff is very good, we have been impressed. Thanks for sharing.
Do you need a pream to hook up the subwoofer?
Reach out to our team of experts at audioadvice.com and they can help you out!
Arcam vs. JBL synthesis line? Specifically the new JBL SDP-58
Great question. Same chassis and software. The 58 has slightly upgraded DACs according to JBL and includes Dirac Live Bass which is a $500 up charge from Dirac.
Arcam AV41 or Anthem AVM90 for music reproduction? I love blu ray concerts.....
Please reach out to our team at www.audioadvice.com to discuss the differences. Both of those sound fantastic. Thanks for watching
I'm interested in the Arcam Av41. But everything I've read and heard in the extra xlr inputs for subs are not independent but are wired in parallel. This compromises Diracs multisub eq effectivess from what I understand. Each input should be independent for volume distance and level matching etc. Do you guys know if that's true? Another reviewer mentioned it in his review. Hoping to get clarification. Thank you
The Sub 1 and Sub 2 outputs are in parallel, but outputs 13-16 are assignable.
@@AudioAdvice ripewave audio did a review and said that although inputs 13 to 16 are assignable they are also wired in parallel. It is at the 16:40 mark of they're review. They are saying that according to the manual all sub inputs are wired in parallel. They said that although 13 to 16 are assignable as a convenience they are not wired independent. Would you mind looking at that review? Maybe they just are confused? I am interested in this unit. Thank you for responding back!
@@AudioAdvice I just rechecked ripewaves review at the 1640 market they flat out say that 13 to 16 are able to be assigned to subwoofers they are not independent and are wired in parallel. I'm also suprised Arcam chose to wire sub inputs 1 and 2 in parallel. For DLBC to be at its best each channel must be independently assigned. I'm confused. That's a $500 add on if I choose to go with the AV41. Just want to make sure it's optimized correctly for the best Dirac multi sub eq. Thanks again for your time to my responses!
@@danzilla31stompinontokyo36 according to Harman 13 and 14 can be independent front subs and 15 and 16 are independent rear subs. We will confirm this later on but that’s from the source.
@@AudioAdvice okay awesome!!! Thank you for your time on this! Definetly on my radar!!!
Is there vrr and auto low latency support?
All inputs support 8K@60fps and 4K@120fps...those two features are normally a function of your display device. Thanks for watching
Can you assign the reciever amps to just power height channels? I have a 7 channel power amp and would just use the arcam to power the heights!
Very good question. The main 5 channels that are built in are fixed, but you can assign channels 6 and 7 to height 1. If you wanted 4 heights, you could use the internal amp to drive the surrounds, then use your 7 channels for front, center, rear and height 2. If you decide to purchase and Arcam, we would appreciate it if you supported our small business. www.audioadvice.com/shop-by-brand/arcam Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice thanks for the reply my only concern is I'd be going from 200 watts on my surrounds to 80watts and one set of heights would be 80watts and the other 200
@@rickdiculuss6049 yes that is a large difference. Please reach out to our team at www.audioadvice.com to go over options. If your speakers are very sensitive it will not be as big a deal compared to others that need a lot of power to come to life.
@@AudioAdvice ya there svs ultra surrounds so I don't think 80 would suffice!

한국어 자막 너무 감사합니다
You're welcome!
It doesn't appear that you can use the built-in amps to run the height channels, letting you can get an external amp to run the mains. I have a 7 channel amp that runs my mains now, but using it on the 4 height speakers would seem overkill.
You can assign channels 6&7 to either be height channels or surround rear. But there is not a way to reassign any of the others. Hope this helps.
Arcam or Anthem…hmmm?
Both are very good choices. Thanks for watching

Plus no Mic for room correction
The unit does come with a microphone, but its not a great one. We have found through experience, the microphone you use for any calibration makes a world of difference. That is why we recommend people get the Mini DSP mic, which is a very good one for around $100. It would be nice if they included something on that level with it. Thanks for watching

Arcam is waaaaaaaay overpriced! In EU AVR5 with old HDMI board and zero room correction is....wait for it 2700 €! That is around 3000 US $. Should be max 1700 €. In comparison the new AVR31 is....hang in there 8000 €! 😱 Almost 10000 $ or the price of a nice car. Serenity now! 😭🙂
Wow, they are much more expensive in the EU. Interesting. Thanks for watching
no issues at all😂😂😂😂😂
I can't do anything about it but this is really the ugliest receiver I've ever seen 😆.
They certainly have a different look, but coming from the perspective of using the front panel for some set up and adjustments, they are great. Thanks for watching
