so… can someone explain to me why FERRAGAMO isn’t doing well? the recent collections have all been lovely. pls educate me. (oh, and who have you guys liked so far. my fave has been BV) hope you’re having a great day!
Probably because the clothes are boring. The bags aren’t too interesting either. There are too many luxury brands and lower tier competitors who make similar things.
A few reasons: while yes, they received a new creative director whom has brought attention to the *brand* , it simply isn't enough to turn around the sales alone. You see, prior to the new direction Maximilian is taking Ferragamo, the brand's intended audience was very old, rich ladies. By shifting the clothes to a new, trendy aesthetic (old money, if you will), they've sort of in a way lost those devoted clienteles. I should also add Ferragamo was originally a *shoe* brand that diverged into leather goods and clothing. They never really been able to shake off the fact they're a shoe brand, in my opinion. It's like Jimmy Choo or Christian Louboutin's situation: when people hear their name, people automatically associate them with footwear, despite selling a variety of quality goods. There's also a recession going on currently, which is affecting every luxury fashion house. We can't rule that out. In the luxury world, bags, perfume, sunglasses drive nearly 80% of a fashion houses' yearly earnings. I'm not certain what exactly Ferragamo's earnings are, but I can tell you that Ferragamo bags and accessories do not hold their value -- as in, they're not popular enough to be coveted within ten years time. It's a shame because they have superb quality compared to other luxury brands. You can purchase a Ferragamo bag for several thousands, but if you do tire and try and resell it, expect only 10% back -- maybe less. I've heard some consignment places rejecting Ferragamo bags, as they are aware they are unable to sell (be purchased) by anyone. I'm also into fragrances and I don't believe Ferragamo is popular in the fragrance world, despite making very lovely perfumery. Lastly, they didn't invest in their "it" bag enough. Princess Diana was often seen carrying a Ferragamo bag (technically a clutch) in several photos. Had they invested in marketing it, it would have been as popular as the Lady Dior or Fendi Baguette. I'm not certain why they make in in only four colours and barely have it in stock. I definitely feel it is a missed opportunity. Anyhow, those are the reasons I could think of! Those previous factors definitely hinder Ferragamo's brand perception and thus haunt future sales.
last season was such a well executed collection but unfortunately this time around Ferragamo misses the mark. I am so confused, this looks like a sketch book full of unrelated ideas. there were some hopeful moments, ultimately, I just found myself becoming more and more disappointed.

Using models that look like they are starved, with no muscle... why? The show made me cringe.
